We have always sought unifying principles behind such con- nections in an attempt to better understand the world around us: on the most funda- mental level, physicists have for millennia been piecing together the forces of nature in the search for a ‘Theory of Everything’. Creating order out of chaos has revolution- ised the way we view the world and our place in it, while also allowing us to manipu- late our surroundings and even ourselves. Yet a breakdown often occurs across the most vital connection of all: that between scientists and the public. Articulate, engaging communication of scientific research is needed to share the wealth of inspirational scientific discoveries with the public. But more than this, it is vi- tal in avoiding misconceptions that can ob- struct the progress of innovative scientific ideas.     October 17, 2020 - January 3, 2021 75th Art Annual Juried Exhibition Art exhibits have been a significant part of the Neville Public Museum's history since its beginning in 1915. This juried art competition began in 1942 during the height of World War II. Originally known as the Northeastern Wisconsin Art Annual, today the Art Annual is open to anyone 18 years or older who lives within the 24 counties of Northeast Wisconsin, or the 14 counties of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. For three-quarters of a century, many of this region’s most celebrated and talented artists have exhibited their work as part of this Green Bay tradition. Each year a new juror from outside the region is asked to guest curate the exhibition. This year's juror was Annemarie Sawkins, PhD. Annemarie is an independent curator and art consultant from the Milwaukee area. Submitted artworks must be original works and produced within the past three years. Many of the selected works speak to the societal challenges of the past year; from a global pandemic to social injustice. Despite the uncertainties of life, we hope this body of work will be emotionally inspiring and mentally healing to all who view it in person. After his death, when his popularity began to grow, Poe’s works became more widely read and studied by both scholars and authors. As technology began to advance in the twentieth century, his works began to be adapted into short films and later, feature-length films. And, in the late twentieth century, a young progressive rock group named the Alan Parsons Project offered their adaptation of several of Poe’s works. In this paper, I will discuss their work on “A Dream within a Dream” and “The Raven,” from their album Tales of Mystery and Imagination—Edgar Allan Poe and how their adaptation enhances Poe’s effect.

Thomson Abstract This investigation examines the origins and development of Edgar Allan Poe’s aesthetic theory throughout his body of work. It employs a tripartite approach commencing with the consideration of relevant biographical context, then proceeds with a detailed analysis of a selection of Poe’s writing on composition and craft: “Letter to B—,” “Hawthorne’s Twice-Told Tales,” “The Philosophy of Composition,” “The Poetic Principle,” and “The Philosophy of Furniture.” Finally, it applies this information to the analysis of selected works of Poe’s short fiction: “The Assignation,” “The Fall of the House of Usher,” “The Oval Portrait,” “The Domain of Arnheim,” and “Landor’s Cottage.” The examination concludes that Poe’s philosophy of art and his metaphysics are linked; therefore, his aesthetic system bears more analytical weight in the study of his fiction than was previously allowed.
