The nematode species most likely arrived in California a century ago with propagative date palms from the Middle East and eventually spread to Florida on ornamental date palms that were shipped from Arizona and California. -

Five speciesof Longidoridae belonging to the genera Longidorus and Xiphinema were found, described and illustrated, i.e., Longidorus africanus, L. pisi, Xiphinema basiri, X. elongatum and X. simillimum. All speciesare recorded far the second rime tram Sudano L. africanus possessesa small amphidial aperture, appearing as a minute slit both under light microscope and SEM. Five species belonging to the genus Longidorus bave = 97 % 8 (83-105),b = 10.5 % 0.9 (9.4-12.3), c = 88 % previously been reported from Sudan, namely: L. africanus lO (81-105), c' = 1.7 % 0.1 (1.5-1.9), V % = 49 % 1 Merny, 1966; L. siddiqii Aboul-Eid, 1970 (now L. pisi Ed- (48-51);tail = 47 IJ.m% 4 (40-53);odontostyle = 88 IJ.m ward, Misra et Singh, 1964); L. laevicapitatusWilliams, % 3 (82-92); odontophore = 41IJ.m % 3 (38.,48);stylet = 1959; L. brevicaudatusSchuurmans Stekhoven, 1951 and 129 IJ.m % 3 (124-133). Longidorus sp. (Yassin, 1967, 1972, 1974, 1975, 1986; Yassin et al., 1971; Elamin and Siddiqi, 1970; Decker et Males: not found. al., 1980). Five Xiphinema species bave also been reported from Juveniles: Sudan, i.e., X. basiri Siddiqi, 1959; X. ebriense1uc., 1958; J1 (n = 4): L = 1.20 mm (1.17-1.24), a = 61 (55-63), X. elongatum Schuurmans Stekhoven et Teunissen, 1938; b = 5.1 (4.8-5.2), c = 30 (28-32), c' = 2.8 (2.6-3.0); tail X. -

Graellsia, 62(2): 179-198 (2006) SOIL AND FRESHWATER NEMATODES OF THE IBERIAN FAUNA: A SYNTHESIS R. Peña-Santiago*, J. Abolafia, P. Guerrero, G. Liébanas & M. Peralta ABSTRACT The first available compilation of Iberian soil and freshwater nematodes is presented in this paper. The inventory is currently made up of 981 species belonging to 236 genera, 77 families and 12 orders. Data of the Iberian nematode fauna are compared with other components of the Iberian biota, as well as the nematode fauna of other geographical regions. Quantitative and qualitative aspects of the nematode inventory are analyzed and discussed, paying special attention to the kind of information available for each species, and concluding that practically one-third of Iberian spe- cies are deficiently characterized and need further study. Endemicity of Iberian species is also con- sidered: 143 species, 14.6% of the total, are restricted (in their distribution) to the Iberian geography, most of them being members of the orders Dorylaimida (87) and Tylenchida (29), which are also the most diversified nematode taxa. Practical or applied interest of knowledge of the Iberian nematode fauna is commented and supported with examples and recent contributions. Finally, an alphabetical list of the species, ordered by specific name, is provided. Key words: Balearic Islands, Compilation, Endemisms, Faunistics, Freshwater, Iberian Peninsula, Nematoda, Soil. When published, Volume 1 and 2 contained the documents issued before 2006; Volume 3 and 4 are a continuation of the compilation up to 2010. The OECD Biosafety Consensus Documents identify elements of scientific information used in the environmental safety and risk assessment of transgenic organisms which are common to OECD member countries and some non members associated with the work. This is intended to encourage information sharing, promote harmonised practices, and prevent duplication of effort among safety Assessment countries. Two new Longidorus nematodes, Longidorus oakcrassus n. 30 sp. and Longidorus oakgracilis n. sp., are described and illustrated from populations 31 associated with the rhizosphere of Pyrenean oak (Quercus pyrenaica Wild.) in southern 32 Spain. The taxonomic position of both new species within the genus was assigned using an 33 integrative approach. Morphologically, L. oakcrassus n. sp. is characterized by a female 34 with a large and robust body size (9.2-12.2 mm), lip region anteriorly flattened to slightly 35 rounded and almost continuous or slightly offset by a depression with body contour, ca 25.5- 36 32.0 μm wide, amphidial fovea with slightly asymmetrical lobes, stylet composed by an 37 odontostyle moderately long (110.0-133.5 μm) and odontophore weakly developed, pharynx 38 short ending in a terminal pharyngeal bulb with normal arrangement of pharyngeal glands, 39 tail short almost hemispherical shape.
