[Re- markable records of Macrolepidoptera in Sweden 1996.1 - Ent. Tidskr. ll8 (l): ll-27. Uppsala, Sweden 1997. ISSN 0013-886x. This is the 24th consecutive annual report on interesting finds and provincial records of Macrolepidoptera in Sweden. The situation was much alike the last year, mainly cool spring and early summer with short spells of warmth in the end of April, end of May and early June. In the end of July the warmth came back to the whole country and lasted to the beginning of September. In September the weather was mainly cool and rainy but in October there was a long warm period. Among the many interesting records this season, belonging to the native fauna, were Apatutra lris now found in great numbers in a new area and Photedes brevilinea which now appears to be established in Sweden. One new habitat for Xestia boreali.s, at inhabitant of sub-montane forests, was found more easterly than previously known. This sea- son seems to have been even better for migrating Lepidoptera than the preceding year. In the end of May and beginning of June there was an invasion of Cy-nthia cardui and Autographa gamma, and also numbers of Vanessa atalanta. In this period Macroglossum stellatarum and Heliothis peltigera also were recorded. In the late July and until beginning of September, a period with warmth and prevailing SE winds, many migrants were found like Eilema griseola, E. palliatella, Lithosia quadra, Trichoplusia ni, ldaea ochrata, Melonthia procellata, Cryphia algae, Protoschinia .\cutosa, Heliothis armigera, Heliothis peltigera, Autographa mandarina, Hydraecia ultima, Mythimna albipuncta, Spodoptera exigua, Herse convoLvuli, Hyles euphorbiae and Colias crocea. One find of Crammodes stolida, found outside a shopping centre in Smiland perhaps is introduced. The migration season ceased in October after a pe- riod with warmth and S-SW winds brought migrants like Peridroma saucia, Orthonama obstipata, Nycteola asiatica and Lithophane semibrunnea to the country. The very good conditions for migration resulted in six species recorded for the first time in Sweden: /daea ochrata, Melanthia procellata, Eilema palliatella, Trichoplusia ni, Cryphia algae and Litho- phane .semibrunnea. The species Timandra gri, seata and Hadena bicruris, belonging to the native fauna, have shown to be sibling species with the taxa Timandra comae and Hadena c'apsincolo also occurring in the country. Hepialu.s ganna previously omitted from the Swe- dish fauna now is reinstated since the Swedish voucher specimens, captured in 1847, have been rediscovered. Altogether nine species new to the Swedish fauna are reported, bringing the total number of Macrolepidoptera found in Sweden up to 1073. This report also gives the latest information on the present status of some of the endangered lepidopteran species in Sweden. The classification is according to Catalogus Lepidopterorum Sueciae (1994). G. Palmqvist, Trdlgriind 5 A, S-116 68 Stocktutlm, Sweden. Supposedly they were either erroneously determinated or incorrect noted from the region under consideration since Eversmann 's work. 289 species are recorded from the re gion in addition to Eversmann 's list. This paper is the fifth in a series of publications1 dealing with the composition of the pres ent-day fauna of noctuid-moths in the Middle Volga and the south-western Cisurals. This re gion comprises the administrative divisions of the Astrakhan, Volgograd, Saratov, Samara, Uljanovsk, Orenburg, Uralsk and Atyraus (= Gurjev) Districts, together with Tataria and Bash kiria. As was accepted in the first part of this series, only material reliably labelled, and cover ing the last 20 years was used for this study. The main collections are those of the authors: V. Tidskr. 108: 130-134. Umei, Sweden 1987. ISSN 0013- tt86x. On the night of August 20-21 1985 a mass migrati<tl of Aungrapha mandarina (Frcver 1846) was observed along the coast-line of Uppland in central Sweden. Autographa mandarina has made a strong expansion in NW Europe during the last 15 years, and the species seems to con- tinue its effort in this direction, On this occasion it was possible to trace the flight path aEd the possible origin of thc invading moths. According to the trajectories and local information, we assume that thcv came from the Vitebsk area in Western USSR and made their 750 km journev in approximately .18 hours, flying non-stop. The distribution of finds of,4 urograp ha mandarino in central Sweden may almost fully bc explained by the occasional weather conditions. N. Five noctuid species are recorded from Europe for the first time: Eublemma conistrota Hampson, 1910, Eiiblemma deserti Rothschild, 1909, Anumeta hilgerti (Rothschild 1909), Hadiila deserticula (Hampson 1905), and Eiixoa canariensis Rebel, 1902. New synonyms are stated: Leptosia velocissima f. tarda Turati, 1926, syn. n. and Leptosia griseimargo Warren, 1912, syn. n., both synonyms of Metachrostis velox (Hübner, 1813); and Pseudohadena (Eremohadena) roseonitens espugnensis Lajonquiere, 1964, syn. n., a synonym of P. (E.) roseonitens roseonitens (Oberthür, 1887). A new subspecies of Xylena exsoleta (Linneaus, 1758), Xylena exsoleta maltensis ssp. n., is established. The literature on Maltese Noctuoidea is reviewed and erronuousely reported species are indicated.

INTRODUCTION The fauna of noctuoid moths (the families Erebidae and Noctuidae) of Kazakhstan is still poorly studied. Only the fauna of West Kazakhstan has been studied satisfactorily (Gorbunov 2011). On the faunas of other parts of the country, only fragmentary data are published (Lederer, 1853; 1855; Aibasov & Zhdanko 1982; Hacker & Peks 1990; Lehmann et al. 1998; Benedek & Bálint 2009; 2013; Korb 2013). In contrast to the West Kazakhstan, the fauna of noctuid moths of East Kazakhstan was studied inadequately.

E-mail: [email protected] Introduction The Notigal ė telmological preserve (1391 ha) is located in Kupiškis administrative district (Northern Lithuania). It is protected since 1974 (State Service for Protected Areas…, 2008). The raised bog occupies approximately 552 ha of the whole territory. The efforts to study the entomofauna of the preserve were rather sporadic. The first faunistic data on Lepidoptera occurring in the Notigal ė bog were published by A. Palionis (1932). He recorded 14 species of butterflies and moths ( Papilio machaon, Plebeius argus , Thalera fimbrialis, Eulithis testata, E. populata, Macrothylacia rubi, Euthrix potatoria, Saturnia pavonia, Orgyia recens, O. antiqua, O. antiquoides, Diacrisia sannio, Amphipoea lucens, and Coenophila subrosea ). Later, some additional studies were carried out by A. Manikas (Kazlauskas, 1984, 2008; Ivinskis et al., 1990), and G. Švitra (unpublished data). More detailed studies on the composition of nocturnal moths occurring in the Notigal ė bog were carried out in 2000. The newly retrieved faunistic data were analysed and compared with the data obtained from the other bogs of Lithuania, showing some environmental similarities (Dapkus, 2003, 2004a, 2004b, 2004c), but the entire list of species is not yet published. The aim of this paper is to provide supplementary data on the species composition of nocturnal and day-active Lepidoptera recorded in the Notigal ė raised bog. Material and Methods The study on the butterflies and moths of the Notigal ė raised bog was carried out mainly in 2000.

  • Lepidoptera ) in Urban Habitats: the Moths of Warsaw I
MUSEUM AND INSTITUTE OF ZOOLOGY POLISH ACADEMY OF SCIENCES FRAGMENTA FAUNISTICA Fragm. faun. W arszawa, 31.12.2002 45 131-145 Grażyna W i n i a r s k a Butterflies and moths ( Lepidoptera ) in urban habitats: the moths of Warsaw I. Noctuidae, Pantheidae, Nolidae Abstract: 302 moth species of the families Noctuidae, Pantheidae and Nolidae have been recorded in Warsaw to date. Of these, in historical times were recorded 286 species (86 of them only then, including one - M. acetosellae, which can no longer be found in Poland). Most of these species are now regarded as very rare and occurring only locally in Central Europe (e.g. I. calvaria, S. taenialis, C. pacta, P. moneta, P. cheiranthi, H. ononis, A. caliginosa, D. oo, T. ludifica). Contemporary records list 212 species, most of which are widely distributed in Poland and classified as abundant (e.g. D. trifolii, M. pallens, X. c-nigrum, A. exclamationis). 7 species: M. confusa, A. gamma, S. scutosa, H. peltigera, S. exigua, L. zollikoferi and A. ipsilon are migrant visitors. Key words: Noctuidae, Pantheidae, Nolidae, Lepidoptera, urban habitats, Warsaw Author's address: Museum and Institute of Zoology PAS, Wilcza 64, 00-679 Warszawa, POLAND INTRODUCTION Studies of Lepidoptera from urban habitats have not been carried out in too many Polish towns. Warsaw is now the most extensively studied Polish town, with research carried out both in the city and in its suburbs, starting from the mid-19th century. As early as 1764-1798, during his expeditions K.H. Perthes, the court geographer of king Stanisław August Poniatowski collected, among others, insects ( Coleoptera, Orthoptera and Lepidoptera).
