RECOMMENDATION LETTER

March, 2019

To Whom It May Concern: Darío Llanos Javierre is one of the most gifted music students ever to attend the College of Music, and is a world-class performing artist. I have had the great pleasure of serving as his Major Professor in Piano Performance during his entire time as a student here at the University of North Texas. He has been awarded a highly competitive Teaching Fellowship, which has served to demonstrate his remarkable ability in this area. To be given both the fellowship and to be admitted into the Artist Diploma Program are clear indications of his extreme talent and potential. He has an incredible knowledge of general musical culture, in addition to his profound knowledge of piano literature.

Dario Llanos Javierre's appearances both in Europe and in Spain have been of paramount importance not only to his career, but for potential collaboration between the universities where he has built professional connections, these including the University of North Texas. He has given world-premiere performances of works by many living composers, one of which, Miguel del Barco, will in 2020 have a full compact disc recording released on the Toccata Classics label of London, with Darío Llanos Javierre as the performer of his piano works.

Toccata Classics is distributed world-wide by Naxos, now the largest record company in the world.

Darío Llanos Javierre was awarded the First Prize in the 2014 International Piano Prize Competition organized by The Liszt Society in London, as well as another prize in the 2016 Los Angeles International Liszt Competition. He has been widely heard as a performer in Germany, Spain, England, France, and the United States. During the summer of 2018 he recorded works for chamber ensemble and piano by Roger Boutry with the Boutry Ensemble and members of the Dallas Symphony in Paris. In current preparation is a major international research project on "The critical spirit of the performer" for the Universidad Internacional de La Rioja in Spain, and a piano edition of works by the Spanish composer Miguel del Barco.

Professor Llanos Javierre has been awarded, and currently holds, a Teaching Fellow position, and for his work in this position has been nominated for the 2019 Outstanding Teaching Fellow Award at the University of North Texas. As his piano instructor during this time I have had the opportunity of extensively observing his teaching capabilities and the remarkable progress made by his students. He is without a doubt one of the most outstanding College of Music students to have ever received this highly significant and difficult to obtain Teaching Fellow designation. In lessons during which I have observed, his teaching ability has demonstrated the highest level of scholastic awareness and control of technical issues related to piano performance, these having been accomplished in a manner expressing clearly his ideas, and utilized in a teaching atmosphere that has been both encouraging and concise to his students. His ability will undoubtedly make him a renowned instructor for all levels of piano performance. 1 3 W W W . D A R I O L L A N O S . C O M

RECOMMENDATION LETTER

As evidence of his strong ability in the pedagogical area, I am including recent accomplishments by two of his students:

• Alan Adams served as a judge for the Reflections Arts Program - Music composition category. He was the Bluebonnet Music Teacher's Association (BMTA) Chair for the 2019 Publication Contest. He also performed an original composition by Yeonsuk Jung in a College of Music Composition Departmental program. As well, he played a recital at the Steinway Piano Gallery in Austin, Texas on May 19th, 2018. During all of these events he was a student of Dario Llanos Javierre.

• Jairay Petty performed four performances for "Jazz by the Sea" at the Coral World at St. Thomas, and was given a full piano scholarship to the Snow Pond Center for the Arts Summer Institute. Two performances were given at the All Saints Cathedral Church. Concerts were also given in New York with the VI Youth Ensemble alumni, for the Virgin Islands Gubernatorial campaign, and during the Virgin Islands Governor's inauguration.

These activities by Dario Llanos Javierre's students are clear evidence of his remarkable ability as an instructor. I cannot recommend strongly enough his talent both as a teacher and concert pianist.

His website is: www.dariollanos.com

The above comments are but a brief summation of Darío Llanos Javierre's accomplishments. His potential as a professional musician are enormous. I cannot recommend him strongly enough for any help that may be given to him! Sincerely,

To Whom It May Concern: Mr. Llanos Javierre is due to graduate in May with a Graduate Artist Certificate. in this program do not teach group piano classes but instead are assigned private teaching, some collaborative work, and some service to the Division. His private teaching has been exemplary in every way. His students love him, they have done well in their juries, and as evidenced by this and by the care with which repertoire has been chosen for them, he is an involved, caring and successful teacher. His collaborative work has been equally excellent. Not only are his colleagues and the coaches extremely happy with the level of his playing and commitment and responsibility to the requirements of his assignments, but I too have been delighted that there are never any complaints and never any problems - as there are with so many of these assignments - with being prepared, being available, being cooperative in lessons and rehearsals. A third and extremely important component of Dario’s work for us has included a number of what I would call “administrative” or “service” duties. He has been an assistant to the head of Chamber Music Studies, tasked with maintaining and checking the website, taking attendance at all required concerts or meetings of the general class, and reporting back to the professor in charge. I have heard back that Dario has been the “best assistant ever”. He is prompt, organized, efficient, dependable. Dario has also been tasked with maintaining our University of North Texas Pianists Page on Facebook and managing the sometimes complicated requirements of signing up online to perform in the weekly Piano Departmental. This, too, he has done cheerfully, effectively, responsively - and I must say as his direct supervisor in these last two requirements, I am going to miss him enormously when he goes back to Spain. He will be extremely difficult to replace. In closing, I can say that whichever teaching institution hires him in the future as an assistant professor will be extremely fortunate to have such a gifted musician in combination with such a conscientious, professional teacher and colleague.

To Whom It May Concern: It is my distinct pleasure to have nominated Darío Llanos Javierre for the Outstanding TF award. Darío has proven himself time and time again to be one of our most productive and reliable TFs in piano. He is already well on his way to establishing himself as a major performing artist, and interrupted his highly successful touring career in his native Spain and Europe to come to UNT to study. He still is active on the international concert stages, but when he needs to be gone, he makes all the necessary arrangements to cover his duties. His students admire and adore him. He has an engaging personality that is evident in every interaction. He has helped our piano area in numerous ways with his knowledge of computers and administration. He is very reliable and responsive to all requests and assignments he is given. He is an exceptional student, teaching fellow, and human being. I give him my highest possible recommendation.
