Over the course of 6 years (2000-2006) my family and I moved back and forth between Ireland and Oregon through my dad's work. Finally in the summer of 2006 we moved to Oregon permanently. I started playing soccer in the fall of 2007, and continued to play until 2010. I began riding both road and track for Beaverton Bicycle Club in 2008 and have been riding ever since. Being a part of ExergyTwenty16 last year was such an incredible experience, and I’m looking forward to another year. Twenty16 has given me so many great opportunities and has done nothing but inspire me to continue riding my bike. The 2014 season is going to be a good one :) If you weren’t bike racing, you would be...? Sports wise, I'd probably still be playing soccer, or possibly be doing track & field. What inspired you to become a bike racer? My Dad got into riding through a family friend who rode. He would get up early in the mornings and watch big races like Roubaix, Flanders, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, and Milan Sanremo ect. It started off: I would occasionally get up in the mornings and watch them with him. He'd show me the race tactics using Lego pieces. Then, I started getting up very frequently to watch races with him. We then decided that I should give cycling a try. Ever since then, I've been riding :) Who is an inspiration to you in your life, both on and off the bike? Without a doubt, it would have to be my dad. I wouldn't be where I am today without him. He takes me to all my races, and is always cheering me on. If I have a bad race, he always finds a way to look at it in a positive way. He is also a racer, so we kind of just click together. Out of all my siblings, I've spent the most time with him whether it is the hours on a ride, long drives to races, or just more conversations in the house because we're talking about things cycling related. He's my inspiration and motivation to be a better person on and off the bike because I want to make him proud. The best thing about being a bike racer is? The best thing about being a bike racer would have to be the feeling of accomplishment after a race. I love knowing that I worked my butt off and I gave it all I could. It's also great making my coach, parents, teammates and siblings proud. Another thing is the friendships I’ve made through the sport of cycling! Favorite place you’ve raced your bike and why? My all-time favorite was having the opportunity of racing at the Sir Chris Hoy velodrome in Scotland! What an incredible facility :) Favorite cross training or off season activity? With my coach Brian Abers, during the off season we do weights, core and lots of intervals, as well as skills practices and some solid base miles. Favorite meal when training? Before a ride or race I love starting the day off with a bowl steel cut oats, or a protein powder pancake with shredded coconut! Favorite meal when you can eat whatever you want? I adore my Dad's homemade crepes. They are so delectable. Also, occasionally, our family makes some homemade pizza dough, so we get to custom make our own wee pizzas. They are quite delicious. Best tip for a new bike racer Just get out there and do it! Make new friends, try new things and have a blast :) Favorite things to do off the bike: 1. Spend time with family 2. Hang out with friends 3. Watch my favorite TV shows 4. Bake 5. Music (singing & listening to it) Top 10 warm up/pre-race songs on your iPod: Honestly any music gets me pumped! As long as it’s not slow, sad or crazy death metals music (because that scares me…!) .
