Najib Wants More Premises Set Up For Selling Products Directly To Consumers Bernama April 3, 2015 KUANTAN, April 3 (Bernama) -- Prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak wants more premises providing opportunities to farmers and breeders to sell their products directly to the consumers to be set up in the country. He said this would enable the producers to earn more profit while the consumers could get fresh agro-based products at a cheaper price. He said the 1Malaysia Agrobazaar Rakyat concept, introduced by the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry at Indera Mahkota, which offers fresh products such as vegetables, fruits, chicken, meat and fish which are cheaper by as much as 20 per cent compared to the market price, was the best model for this initiative. "The 1Malaysia Agrobaazar Rakyat concept is the best platform that brings together the producers and consumers, that brings the farmers, fishermen and breeders together to the housewives and general public who want an outlet that offers fresh products at a minimum price," he said. He said this when opening the 1Malaysia Agrobazaar Rakyat, at the Pahang State Farmers Organisation (Pasfa), here today which was also attended by Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob. The event was also attended by its deputy minister, Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, chairman of the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) Tan Sri Badruddin Amiruldin and chairman of the Board of the National Farmers Organisation (Nafas) Datuk Seri Saipolbahri Suib. The Agrobazaar, which was created under the concept of the mini market, was to enable the farmers, breeders and fishermen to turn the outlet as a medium to merket their products without using the middlemen. -

RAFIDAH AZIZ • Malaysia's longest serving Minister of International Trade and Industry • Chairman of AirAsia X Tan Sri Radah Aziz was born in Selama, Perak in 1943. She obtained her BA in Economics and Masters in Economics from the University of Malaya. She taught at the Faculty of Economics from 1966 to 1976, until she began her career as a simultaneously participating in the politics on the Nation. She was appointed as a Senator in 1974, and subsequently served as a Member of Parliament for 35 years, from 1978 to 2013. She is the most dynamic lady that Malaysia has to date. Condent, dynamic and passionate, she is known for her quick, direct and articulate responses. She is Malaysia's longest serving Minister of International Trade and Industry, having been in the position for 21 years from 1987 - 2008. She had previously served as Deputy Finance Minister between 1976 to 1980, Minister of Public Enterprises from 1980 to 1987. Much admired by her peers and colleagues, she is regarded as an authority on trade and industry. During her tenure as the Minister of International Trade and Industry, for 21 years, she has contributed signicantly to the development of the country's economy. With her sound knowledge of economic matters, she worked tirelessly to position and to promote Malaysia as the most favoured destination for foreign direct investment. Many well-known Global Companies have set up manufacturing and related activities in Malaysia. Many have established research and development facilities, as well as regional production and export hubs in Malaysia. On the domestic front, Tan Sri Radah strives to create opportunities for local enterprises to excel in their businesses. -

Technocracy in Economic Policy-Making in Malaysia
Technocracy in Economic Policy-Making in Malaysia Khadijah Md Khalid* and Mahani Zainal Abidin** This article looks at the role of the technocracy in economic policy-making in Malay- sia. The analysis was conducted across two phases, namely the period before and after the 1997/98 economic and financial crises, and during the premiership of four prime ministers namely Tun Razak, Dr Mahathir, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, and Najib Razak. It is claimed that the technocrats played an important role in helping the political leadership achieve their objectives. The article traces the changing fortunes of the technocracy from the 1970s to the present. Under the premiership of Tun Razak, technocrats played an important role in ensuring the success of his programs. However, under Dr Mahathir, the technocrats sometimes took a back seat because their approach was not in line with some of his more visionary ventures and his unconventional approach particularly in managing the 1997/98 financial crisis. Under the leadership of both Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Najib Razak, the technocrats regain their previous position of prominence in policy-making. In conclusion, the technocracy with their expert knowledge, have served as an important force in Malaysia. Although their approach is based on economic rationality, their skills have been effectively negotiated with the demands of the political leadership, because of which Malaysia is able to maintain both economic growth and political stability. MalaysiaKini.com July 7, 2015 By Stephen Ng COMMENT Amidst strong allegations that some RM2.6 billion had been funnelled into Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s personal accounts in AmPrivate Bank, one thing is clearly missing. It is the God-given voice of conscience. The only person who has come close to having some conscience is Najib himself, who denied that he had “stolen” the people’s money. This is the guilty conscience at work. We say that the voice of conscience has pricked the culprit that he has to say something in order to silence his own guilty conscience. For someone accused of taking the money, one can either hear the still voice of conscience and immediately admit that he had indeed stolen the money, or he will categorically deny it. After all, no thief - even one caught red handed - would admit that he has stolen his client’s money, would he? In any case, the voice of conscience will not be silenced at all. With time, it will grow louder, and even stronger, no matter how one tries to suppress it. Najib’s denial shows that at least the voice of conscience is doing its work. Compared to someone who is simply indifferent and continues on with life as if nothing has happened, at least Najib has responded to his own voice of conscience. Strangely, some have remained absolutely silent. One would expect that at this crucial juncture in Najib’s life, Rosmah Mansor would have spoken up. -

The centralization of executive power has also absorbed the function of the chairman, so that the chairman acts partisanly in parliamentary debates. Also, the chairman has developed into an institution that carries out agenda-setting within the framework of the parliament. This raises the conceptual question of whether legislation in Malaysia is still performed independently by the parliament. The observed patterns require an attempt to re-conceptualize the roles as well as the assigned meaning of various expressions of parliamentary routine, including those that are unwritten and informal, for instance those which can also be termed “subjective forms of rule” at one's own discretion. In my doctoral thesis, I apply an interdisciplinary analytical framework that relates to accountability studies, as well as micro- sociological direct interaction, the interpretations of procedural interactions in conversation, as well as studies of political discretion in parliamentary operations. My main research question asks how the Speaker of Parliament fulfils his responsibilities by disrupting ongoing parliamentary debates. -
