Written Submission from Falkirk Council – Petition Pe1102
PE1102/F WRITTEN SUBMISSION FROM FALKIRK COUNCIL – PETITION PE1102 1. Background 1.1 Falkirk Council, like many local authorities, is strongly opposed to the closure of post offices in the Falkirk Council area. The Council recognises the important social function that post offices have, and that for many individuals in our communities, the post office functions as the main village or local shop. These facilities are used largely by elderly people, people with young children and those with mobility problems to purchase essential items. 1.2 The Council has for a number of years used post offices to provide services such as rent collection etc. Since 1979, Falkirk Council has supported the local area Post Office Network through the facility for tenants to make payment of rent at post offices. This was extended to include council tax payments in 1996. Our contract is with the Alliance & Leicester. Payments are made through a service known as 'BillPay'. Payments are made using plastic payment cards issued by Falkirk Council which can be used to pay rent and/or council tax at the Council's One-Stop-Shops and any post office in the UK. This method of payment is 1 of 7 options that are available to our customers. 1.3 As a result of the development of more efficient and convenient methods of payment, e.g. by Direct Debit, via the Web and by telephone, and the reduction in the Council's housing stock through the right to buy, the number of payment transactions made at post offices has reduced year on year over the past 10 to 15 years. -

Wallacestone Primary School Braemar Gardens Brightons Falkirk FK2 0JB Telephone: 01324 506760 Headteacher: Evelyn Macdonald 20th December 2016 Children’s Services Dear Parents/Carers SCHOOL CLOTHING I would like to inform you that we are in the process of setting up an online system for ordering school and nursery uniform. We intend to have this up and running by the end of January. Our supplier for clothing is Border Embroideries, now known as BE SCHOOLWEAR. We have not increased prices of our clothing for many years, however, as the company are increasing their prices from January 2017, I’m afraid that we will have no option but to increase our prices too. Clothing will no longer be available to order via the school office (apart from ties). Orders made online can be delivered to your home address (costs £4.99 or free delivery if you spend £50 or more). There will also be the option of free delivery to the school - the company will guarantee delivery to the school within 20 days of ordering. As you will be aware, BE SCHOOLWEAR have a shop in Falkirk (32 Vicar Street) where uniform can also be purchased. Yours sincerely Evelyn Macdonald HEADTEACHER Director : Robert Naylor Address: Sealock House 2 Inchyra Road. Grangemouth. Electoral Rolls and Valuation Rolls Finding Aid
Falkirk Archives (Archon Code: GB558) FALKIRK ARCHIVES Local authority records Electoral Rolls and Valuation Rolls Finding Aid This finding aid lists all the electoral rolls and valuation rolls held in Falkirk Archives for the Falkirk area. The information is also repeated in the appropriate Burgh and Parish finding aids. The valuation rolls and electoral rolls in this finding aid are arranged by the place they refer to rather than by the different local authorities responsible for creating them. However, researchers should note that after 1975, both valuation rolls and electoral rolls were compiled in volumes which covered the whole of Falkirk District. Before 1975 records were compiled separately for each Burgh and for the County as a whole. Falkirk Archives holds the records for Bo’ness, Denny & Dunipace, Falkirk and Grangemouth. The valuation and electoral rolls for other towns and villages, such as Bonnybridge, Larbert, Stenhousemuir, Polmont, Brightons, Slamannan, Maddiston, Redding, Whitecross, Shieldhill, California, Avonbridge and rural areas were compiled in volumes by the County of Stirling and these records are held by Stirling Council Archives. Please note that, by law, full electoral rolls less than ten years old may only be consulted for electoral purposes and may not be copied. Falkirk Archives holds very few pre-1975 electoral rolls. The National Library of Scotland holds electoral rolls for the whole of Scotland from 1947 to the present. Falkirk Archives (Archon Code: GB558) Valuation & rating Valuation Rolls were first compiled in 1855 as a result of the Lands Valuation (Scotland) Act 1854 (17 & 18 Vict. c.91). They were compiled annually, and different local authorities were responsible for compiling the rolls in different areas and at different times. -
