Stanford Auctioneers Pop, Modern, Contemporary Art & Photography Saturday – May 21st, 2016 www.stanfordauctioneers.com | [email protected] 1: ANDY WARHOL - Marker drawing on poster USD 3,000 - 3,500 Andy Warhol (American, 1928 - 1987). "$ [dollar sign] [marker drawing on poster]". Marker drawing on poster. 1969. Signed in black marker, lower center. Light green watermarked Mead Mimeo Bond paper. The full sheet. Fine impression. Very good to fine condition; folds as issued for mailing. A fascinating, unique, and rare object. Warhol was part of a group show at the Chelsea Gallery in New York City which was titled (appropriately) "The Art of Money." The poster for the exhibition (April 28 to May 2, 1969) was designed as a mailer - our example was folded for mailing but unused. In the middle of the poster Warhol has drawn his trademark dollar sign. Even without Warhol's drawing the poster itself is very rare. Image copyright © Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts / Artists Rights Society (ARS), New York. Overall size: 19 x 14 in. (483 x 356 mm). Image size: 8 1/4 x 8 3/8 in. (210 x 213 mm).
