We Send us your opinion! can look back on a successful business year, and we [email protected] should be grateful for that. And the outlook for 2019 remains positive: In spite of the global turbulence, German consumer sentiment seems unbroken, and GfK indicates that disposable income here will rise by an av- erage of € 763 this year. That’s enough to buy a spare pair of glasses, e.g. for computer work. The additional money could even be used to finally try a multifocal lens, in spite of your presbyopia. Ultimately, it is up to us to help people find new visual happiness. By doing so, we can improve on – or at least match – last year’s commercial good luck. Demographics give us the target market, the industry creates the products, but demand is still slightly sluggish, and we are at least partly to blame for that. We probably have to make a greater effort to meet our customers halfway: not just in physical terms, mentally too. Digitalisation is changing consumer habits and their expectations, and both are important to us as an industry. That doesn’t mean that fundamentally sound craftsmanship and technical expertise are no longer the foundation on which everything else should be built. However, customers must not see opticians as behind the times. That’s why it’s so important to attend the trade fair. It gives company owners valuable stimuli that they can pass on to their employees. Then, as a team, they can implement the concept to benefit the company as a whole. By the way, the same applies for work in associations. Especially when we look back at last year, the sole conclusion is that we can only tackle major challenges together. If we keep this kind of cooperation up, I am sure that this New Year will bring us new luck again. But first of all, the important thing for any company owner is to make a good start, so that they can be among the winners when they get to the finish line. Opti shows us the equipment we need for this as opticians, while the economy gives us the slight tailwind that helps us get there. But everyone has to do their own running. • MOSCOT, the Iconic New York City
“ORIGINALS LIVE ON IN THE MOSCOT FALL-WINTER 2019 CAMPAIGN” NEW YORK, AUGUST 20, 2019 - MOSCOT, the iconic New York City eyewear institution, introduces a new collection of MOSCOT Originals and MOSCOT Spirit optical and sunglass frames for Fall-Winter 2019. Now in its 104th year, the family-owned and operated eyewear brand presents a collection and campaign inspired by the legacy of originals that live on. After over a century in downtown NYC, MOSCOT has seen many evolutions, but the constant appreciation of classic design and original form continues to endure. Staying true to the family heritage and generational legacy, the new Fall-Winter campaign captures moments of father & daughter duo Frank Ferrer, of Guns N’ Roses, and his daughter, model, musician & MOSCOT team member Olivia Ferrer. Shot on location in and around MOSCOT’s Lower East Side flagship shop, where living history is still alive and well, MOSCOT pays homage to the past with an eye on the future. Featured in the campaign are like-minded establishments: TR Crandall Guitars, I Need More, Strand Book Store, and the mom-and-pop shops that are the building blocks New York City was founded upon. The original downtown NYC story comes to life with 6 bold new frames consisting of a rich palette with tones of butterscotch, tortoise, black, and combinations of matte & shiny metal finishes. Many of the new styles play on perspective – The TELENA and The FRITZ, for example, are thick & chunky from the front at first glance, yet unexpectedly slim and sleek in profile. The Originals live on! The Fall-Winter 2019 MOSCOT Collection: FRITZ Features: Made from thin sheet acetate laminate with two dot rivets on the temples, a saddle bridge, and real five barrel hinges.

Even though Congress didn’t send the country over the fiscal cliff and Sandy rebuilding efforts will spur construction, the city will add about one-third fewer jobs than last year. Wall Street will be the key culprit as layoffs continue, and a global economic downturn will curtail the expansion in sectors like tourism. “I would expect the rate of job growth to slow substantially after two very strong years in the face of a sluggish national economy and a weak financial-services sector, particularly early in the year,” said Ken McCarthy, chief economist for Cushman & Wakefield.
