  • ADAM STEVENS: Crew Chief Biography
ADAM STEVENS: Crew Chief Biography Birthdate: 7/22/78 Hometown: Portsmouth, Ohio Residence: Huntersville, North Carolina Marital Status: Married to Aubrey Children: Carter and Ryan In just five seasons as a full-time NASCAR Cup Series crew chief, Adam Stevens has certainly etched his name into the record books as one-half of the most formidable driver-and-crew chief combinations the sport has ever seen. The 41-year-old native of Portsmouth, Ohio, first joined forces with Kyle Busch and the No. 18 M&M’S/Interstate Batteries Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) at the start of the 2015 Cup Series season and, in the relatively short time since, has led all competitors with two series championships and 27 victories in 169 races together through the 2019 campaign. Stevens and Busch clinched their second Cup Series title together at the most reason Championship 4 season finale last November at Homestead-Miami Speedway, where Busch led a race-high 120 laps and crossed the finish line a comfortable 4.5 seconds ahead of his JGR teammate Martin Truex Jr. Coupled with their 2015 championship together, Stevens became just the 15th crew chief in Cup Series history to win multiple championships, tying him with a virtual who’s who of history-making crew chiefs including Greg Zipadelli, Jeff Hammond, Andy Petree, Tim Brewer and Smokey Yunick with two titles apiece. Stevens’ and Busch’s 27 wins together is the most during the last five Cup Series seasons, the next-closest duo being driver Kevin Harvick and crew chief Rodney Childers, who won 21 races in that time and 26 wins together since their first and only championship season in 2014.

The Land O’ Lakes, Florida, native’s passion for motorsports began when he started racing at age 5. As a kid, Scott raced anything he could, from three-wheelers to motorcycles to go-karts. As his racing career progressed at paved short tracks across Florida, Scott competed in a variety of racecars including, Mini Stocks, Street Stocks, open-wheel Modifieds and Late Models. After completing two years in the mechanical engineering program at the University of South Florida, Scott moved to North Carolina in 1998 and enrolled in the Bobby Isaac Motorsports Technology Program at Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory. While he furthered his education, Scott transitioned from racing to working on the racecars of others. In 2003, Scott went to work for a NASCAR Truck Series team where he changed tires as a member of the pit crew in addition to serving as a mechanic. It was during this time Scott realized that in order to reach his career goals, he would need to return to school and complete his engineering degree. “Tire changing is what got me in the door at the first team I worked with,” Scott said. “I was eager to be involved in the setup part of the equation and help make decisions.

Restrictor plate racing and this two-car draft is really tough and I was in the middle of a bunch of incidents. I feel bad for wrecking a bunch of cars, especially my teammate Brad (Keselowski). We got shuffled out to finish 18th. I ran with the 20 (Joey Logano), 36 (Dave Blaney) and then the 14 (Tony Stewart) at the end and just got separated a bit and shuffled back. “My car was really fast all day pushing. Once I had to push, the car didn’t seem as stable as I needed it to be. Frustrating. We ran up front most of the day and didn’t get the finish I think that we deserved.” WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE BLANEY SPIN? “Same thing. Bump-drafting and guys get sideways.” IS THAT THE WAY THAT THESE (RESTRICTOR PLATE) RACES ARE GOING TO BE? “Yep, until we fix it.” ROBBY GORDON (No. 7 Fast Five / SPEED Energy Dodge Charger R/T) Finished 20th “We were a better pusher than leader. We needed another Dodge to run with at the end of the day. With Brad (Keselowski) going out early, that was one less Dodge and I could never get to Kurt (Busch).
