An event study proposal by Meredith Seurkamp This paper investigates the costs and benefits of NASCAR sponsorship. Sports sponsorship is increasing in popularity as marketers attempt to build more personal relationships with their consumers. These sponsorships range from athlete endorsements to the sponsorship of an event or physical venue. These types of sponsorships have a number of costs and benefits, as reviewed in this paper, and the individual firm must use its discretion whether sports sponsorship coincides with its marketing goals. NASCAR, a sport that has experienced a recent boom in popularity, is one of the most lucrative sponsorship venues in professional sports. NASCAR, which began as a single race in 1936, now claims seventy-five million fans and over one hundred FORTUNE 500 companies as sponsors. NASCAR offers a wide variety of sponsorship opportunities, such as driver sponsorship, event sponsorship, track signage, and a number of other options. This paper investigates the fan base at which these marketing messages are directed. Research of NASCAR fans indicates that these fans are typically more brand loyal than the average consumer. NASCAR fans exhibit particular loyalty to NASCAR sponsors that financially support the auto racing sport. The paper further explains who composes the NASCAR fan base and how NASCAR looks to expand into additional markets.

(Saturday, June 30, 2012) – Sam Hornish Jr. continued his string of rock-solid finishes in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. He finished sixth in Friday night’s Feed the Children 300 at Kentucky Speedway. The driver of the No. 12 Wurth Dodge Challenger posted his eighth top-10 finish and third consecutive. He remains fourth in the series championship standings, 33 points behind leader Austin Dillon. “That’s the thing that you’ve got to do; you’ve got to be consistent,” Hornish said. “We need to keep being smart and doing the things that we’re doing. We’re chipping away at it. We’d love to do it all in about two races and be leading the points but it’s not going to happen that way. We just need to be smart about what we do.” Brad Keselowski overcame the loss of track position early in the race to finish seventh, his eighth top-10 finish in 11 starts this season. Keselowski was running third when he pitted during the first caution of the race on lap 26. The crew had an issue with the right-front during the stop plus receiving a penalty for pitting outside the pit box and a tire violation. Keselowski restarted 29th but was able to work his way back onto the top five by lap 130.

The 41-year-old native of Portsmouth, Ohio, first joined forces with Kyle Busch and the No. 18 M&M’S/Interstate Batteries Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) at the start of the 2015 Cup Series season and, in the relatively short time since, has led all competitors with two series championships and 27 victories in 169 races together through the 2019 campaign. We do not believe that a private board effectively controlled by the airlines should be able to dictate who can fly where, when and for how much. The United States has the largest, safest, most diverse system in the world. That is because the skies over the U.S. are a national asset and we are committed to ensuring that the future funding and subsequent design of the national air transportation system will benefit all Americans. There are only 500 or so cities in the United States that have any scheduled airline service. But there are over 5,000 small towns in the U.S. with airports that provide access to general aviation, including business aviation, which we use regularly. Access to airports, and to the nation’s airspace, creates jobs, generates economic activity, and helps make America’s aviation system work for all Americans. In the motor sports industry, this access is critical to our business model and any attempts to increase fees on general aviation users or restrict access to aviation facilities would have a severe impact on our industry. Our industry sustains tens of thousands of jobs and generates billions of dollars in economic activity across the country.
