The purpose of this report is to provide an update on these requests. Bicycle lanes on Dundas Street East have long provided a vital east/west cycling connection. In the 2001 Toronto Bike Plan, Dundas Street East was identified as a candidate for bicycle lanes from River Street to Kingston Road and in 2003, bicycle lanes were installed on the section of Dundas Street East from Broadview Avenue to Kingston Road. The Dundas Street East bicycle lanes are connected to the protected bicycle lanes on Woodbine Avenue via contra-flow bicycle lanes on Dixon Avenue. Transportation Services has installed a number of safety improvements along Dundas Street East including pavement marking enhancements along the corridor and intersection improvements at Dundas Street East and Jones Avenue. In June 2020, as part of the ActiveTO program, temporary protected bicycle lanes (cycle tracks) were installed to extend the Dundas Street East bicycle lanes by 1 kilometre (km) from their end point just east of Broadview, west to Sackville Street to provide a safe connection through the Broadview intersection and over the Don Valley Parkway bridge.

If examining the changing and de- veloping physical landscape, then records are in no short supply at various govern- ment archives: census records, municipal planning records, maps, assessment roles, directories, building surveys, and aerial photographs, to name only a few. Retelling the experiences of a community of people, however, requires a slightly different re- search strategy. Personal papers, photographs, letters, home movies, and oral histo- ries offer a glimpse into the lives of residents. Organizational records can provide insight into the cultural, religious, and social needs of a community and the services offered. But what if those records do not exist or cannot easily be located? The Ontario Jewish Archives (OJA) receive over 650 research requests each year. If we divide that by the number of working days (ignoring vacations, stat, and Jewish hol- idays), that equals 2.5 inquiries every day. Some of these inquiries are fairly quick and straightforward, and some are long, protracted research endeavours. We also receive over 50,000 unique users to our website each year; researchers whom we never in- teract with and whose research we never hear about. Of these research requests, a sizable number are related to Jewish spaces and shifting landscapes. “I’m researching the history of Kensington Market”; “Do you have any records on The Ward?”; “I’d like to study the small communities in Ontario”; “I’m interested in how Bathurst Street became the spine of Toronto’s Jewish community.” While these questions may appear well defined, it is the archivist’s job to determine what the researcher is actually asking.

Sheppard Avenue East is classified as a major arterial roadway. At the eastern leg of the intersection with Don Mills Road it is 28 metres wide with a raised median, a westbound left-turn lane, two westbound through lanes and a westbound shared through/right-turn lane.

INTRODUCTION Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario selected Crosslinx Transit Solutions to design, build, finance and maintain the Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit (ECLRT) project, the first major transit expansion in 50 years. The provincial government’s $5.3 billion Crosstown investment is the single largest GTA transit investment ever. When it’s up and running, the Crosstown will deliver service that is reliable, comfortable and 60 percent faster than what is now available. What’s more, building the line is creating thousands of jobs, 2,500 at peak construction, and other significant economic benefits. The Crosstown is also unique because it is Ontario’s first large- scale public infrastructure project to contractually require the developer, CTS, to ensure that local communities and historically disadvantaged and equity seeking groups directly benefit from the province’s investment. Historically disadvantaged and equity seeking groups (H&E) refer to groups that have been historically excluded or marginalized from the processes and decisions that affect them. To meet this requirement, CTS is providing a range of employment, training and apprenticeship opportunities to these groups, as well as purchasing goods and services from local suppliers and social enterprises, whenever possible. 1 Photo: Crosslinx Transit Solutions, 2016.
