Addressing issue of abuse of women and children Kwatsaduza - Members of the Sundae Byte Men’s Club took it upon themselves to join the 16 days of Activism fi ght against women and child abuse. The men based in Duduza, therefore walked the streets of Phumula Mqhashi conducting a door-to- door campaign, distributing pamphlets and talking to men, women and children about this campaign. “As a new local group of men, we saw it was im- portant for us to educate our community on domestic violence and to share safety tips with our women and children. “Through this, we are showing our support in the fi ght against no violence towards our women and children. “We see a lot of children and women being abused by the same men who are meant to protect them - and we want this to stop,” says the group's public rela- tions offi cer, Lebohang Ramaesa. He adds that through this, they hope to start see- ing some positive changes and for men to stop seeing women as their property, and rather as their partners. “It's important to respect our women and children and to show them love. “As men, let us build our families and make it our mission to keep them safe. “We are the cultural heads of these homes and families, so give your family respect - to be respected These men spread the message of no violence against women and children. and to have respectable homes,” he adds.

2016 has been an exciting year at Ekurhuleni East TVET College and it is always good to look back over the year and see all that has been achieved. A really affi rming highlight this year for EEC was that we were the only TVET College to date to have received an unqualifi ed audit with no fi ndings from the Auditor-General. In these challenging times when we hear so much about mismanagement, corruption and wasteful expenditure, it is so good to receive this acknowledgement of competent, effi cient management. For this I am deeply appreciative of the hard work, support and integrity of the College Council and the Management team at the College. I would also like to thank all our dedicated staff who work so tirelessly to ensure our students enjoy a fulfi lling learning experience during their studies. Each one of EEC’s lecturers, Programme and Campus Managers and support staff, plays an integral role in the intricate educational process and enjoys contributing to the progress and success of our students. Ms H.M. Sibande - EEC Principal Thanks to them, EEC is making its mark steadily as a stable College of choice. We hosted delegations recently from the Japanese and German International Associations of Cooperation (JICA and GIZ) who are interested in establishing working relations with EEC. GIZ is sponsoring our fi rst Dual System Pilot Project in Electrical Engineering where we were able to place all twenty-fi ve apprentices who were selected with host compa- nies. EEC is one of only four TVET Colleges in the country to have been selected to run a Dual System Pilot Project.

I would like to take this opportunity as well to thank all our sponsors, partners in industry, the SETAS and the many companies which offer our stu- dents the opportunity of work-based experiential learning in their workshops and offi ces, for their invaluable support. Without your ongoing com- mitment it would not be possible to offer the wide range of relevant vocational training in many fi elds that Ekurhuleni East TVET College is able to do – all of which contributes immeasurably towards creating a brighter future for our young people.

In conclusion, I wish each of you and your families a safe and happy Christmas and a healthy and successful year ahead in 2017. 12 NEWS THE SPRINGS AFRICAN REPORTER | www.africanreporter.co.za Friday, 16 December, 2016 Classifi eds www.africanreporter.co.za [email protected] 011 916 5301 011 918 6067
