6 JUNE 2014 JUNE 2014 7 8 JUNE 2014 JUNE 2014 9 Cops shut down Peaceful Vendor Booths at Laughlin Rally

According to TMZ: One of the SAMCRO bikers on “Sons of Anarchy” had a close encounter with cops and a rival gang Friday in Nevada ... when police feared the actor might pull a Jax and start beating ass.

Rusty Coones (of Illusion Cycles) -- a known Hells Angel member -- was running his clothing company booth at the famous Laughlin River Run biker rally ... when a ton of officers descended and shut him down. Cops also closed the booths on either side -- run by a member of rival gang Vagos Club -- police feared violence between the 2 groups. Vago member’s lawyer Stephen Stubbs says the irony is ... both sides were getting along just fine ... and the shut down only caused the two companies to lose money.

Time to start smuggling guns again (“Sons of Anarchy” joke.)

More details from The Aging Rebel: Nevada police continue to consider motorcycle club members fair game. Last night at the annual Laughlin River Run approximately 40 police including a Swat team shut down adjoining vendor booths operated by a member of the Motorcycle Club and the Vagos Motorcycle Club. According to a usually informed and reliable source the Lucky 7 Motorsports booth owned by Vago Michael Raymond Sincox and the So Cal Clothing Line Booth run by well known Hells Angel Rusty Coones were closed and the operators were compelled to pack up and leave. Both booths were on property owned by the Pioneer Hotel. Police called the booths “potential threats,” presumably because the two operators belong to different motorcycle clubs and members of those clubs have confronted one another in the past. No Problems. The source said, “There was no sign of any conflict or tension of any kind. In fact, they were extremely friendly with each other, exchanged clothing between the booths, helped each other with vendor supplies, and Sincox and Coones embraced each other multiple times in the last few days. The two booths helped each other pack up.” Coones may be best known as a member of the band Attika 7 and for television appearances on the television series Sons of Anarchy and The Devils Ride. Lucky 7 Motorsports is a family owned business operated by Sincox and his extended family. His parents, grandparents, sister and brother-in-law were working in the booth when it was shut down. The shut down left that business with about $20,000 of unsold merchandise and three unsold valued at $50,000. Lieutenant John Healy. The massive police action was initiated by Lieutenant John Healy of the Laughlin Station of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. According to the source, Pioneer Hotel security told Sincox and Coones “Lieutenant Healy is making this call,” “it is out of our control,” “law enforcement is pushing this” and that if hotel security did not cooperate the Pioneer would “suffer the consequences.”

Don’t let anything stop you!! Motoress (an online women’s motorcycle for the second year to sponsor an International magazine) came up with the concept of Female Ride Day ride here in the Phoenix valley. Overall, this was a wonderful opportunity to get creating a day of recognizing female motorcycle This year approximately 45-50 ladies showed up together as ladies in the motorcycle community, enthusiasts back in 2006. Based in Canada, this on a recent Saturday morning for a ride through who has decided that WE want to ride. We was originally an idea to be a national event, the valley streets and downtown Phoenix, to ride made new friends, reacquainted ourselves with but with in the first year, the concept had been up to the top of South Mountain for a photo op. other friends we hadn’t seen in some time, and embraced by thousands of women in both the After an opportunity to see a picturesque view we saw other friends that we see on a pretty United States and Europe as well, turning it of the entire valley and a bit of time to socialize frequent basis. It was a gorgeous day to ride, to into an international event! The idea was very and visit with each other, we took the obligatory strut our stuff, to empower each other and lift simply to get lady riders together and just ride. picture of the group, and then headed back down each other up. It was a day to be alive!! Promote female riders. Encourage and empower the mountain to a very nice place not far from other ladies to learn to ride. Just get on your bike the bottom called The Farm at South Mountain. and ride!! Ride and be proud!! Here we were able to have a beautiful outdoor Ladies have also been riding motorcycles since lunch, set in a park setting. 32 JUNE 2014 JUNE 2014 33 One Huge Party! By Perry Nelson, Photos by George Childress and Perry Nelson

I was covering up the seat on my Bobcat (a small tractor) hours before my Laughlin River Run trip and bam!! I fell off the bucket and, in turn injured 2- of my ribs , ouch…man…Really?...Ugh. My plans instantly changed, now I’m taking the Truck and loading up the 09 Dyna. Traci was not going on this trip because she had finals in her physical therapy classes, and she wasn’t going to let me ride with a chest injury, at night, for 4hrs…and she would worry…it’s nice to be loved.

Off I go. It was a beautiful drive up to Laughlin from my hometown of Phoenix AZ.. It started to get dark about an hour before I got there, the sunset was just amazing. As I approached Bullhead City, still on the Arizona side of the Colorado River, I noticed a Glow- I felt like I was in the scene from Close Encounters when Richard Dreyfuss first discovered the alien spaceship… Laughlin looked surreal. It was so cool, the glow, then the lights coming up between the mountains were amazing. The closer I got the more it looked like daylight, this city was alive at night.

The first thing I had to do was get my bike off my truck… I had my Quick Throttle agenda. And I had a beautiful room at the Riverside Resort overlooking the Colorado River with a beautiful view of my beloved Arizona…

Now to get the bike off my truck. I needed a little help. I had ramps. The Hotel staff couldn’t help me because they would be liable in case the bike dropped and was damaged.. . soooo I grab a couple guys, that were walking by, and enlisted their help. What I failed to realize was the fact that these guys were a little buzzed. I never thought an 800 lb motorcycle could go down a ramp on that kind of an angle...a couple more guys came over to help when they saw my bike doing a 45 degree lean on the ramp… We did our sloppy handshakes and “lifelong buddy” goodbyes… Bikes off the Truck …(when loading bike to leave on Sunday I found a perfect retaining wall I could back up to, no ramps needed).

The Riverside Resort/Casino is HUGE…its very easy to get lost, which I did several times before finding my room…and locating the River Run Registration (Starview Room).

Back on track I had to meet MJ Smith (MJ) to get my media pass. MJ is the Executive Director of Laughlin Tourism Commission. OK I’m thinking MJ is going to be a big cigar smoking guy waving his arms around, yelling at everyone…To my surprise MJ was an attractive gal in her 30’s, turns out she is with child, and she was so nice and helpful. This was part of a trend; the same feel I got at The Rocky Point Roundup last year. The people putting on this event: MJ Smith (Chamber of Commerce), Joe O’Day (Dal-Con Promotions- “the whole event”), Michael Brown (Harrahs), Greg (Riverside entertainment) and a bunch of others were the mellowest, calmest, “Nothings a Big Deal” people I’d ever met… Especially at a huge 4-day Extravaganza like The Laughlin River Run.

I would continually get the same response from all of these main players of this Rally: “Are you having fun?”, This is fun isn’t it?”, “If you can

What a beautiful scene-- hot custom drove by me in a squad car, I was putting on the “swag”, and they were bikes with a background of the Colorado River the Beautiful Mountains pointing to their heads, I thought they liked my hair so now I was really of Arizona and the small town of Bullhead city with river taxis constantly feelin it… then they got closer and yelled HELMET! Sh-t !! I going back and forth from Nevada to Arizona n back to Nevada…... forgot my helmet, POP goes my bubble…I waved. Ugh! Again I forgot there was a helmet law on the Nevada side of the river. I guess I go The Calendar show and the David Mann show, both in California, are buy a helmet, they had ‘em here in Laughlin and they got em here cheap… beautiful venues but this….this venue is in a league of its own. $20.00 . That makes 12 cheap helmets in my collection… Catch Part 2 in next month’s issue.

Thursday night > Jason Aldean: WOW! what a performer, I guess there is a reason he has won the Academy of Country Music Award’s Male Vocalist of the Year 2-years in a row. I’ve never seen that many women go crazy over a Country Singer… Traci (my wife) bought me Jason Aldean’s new CD so I was kinda familiar with some of his songs. “1994” my favorite- and he killed it!. He’s got the Cool of Kid Rock and the stage presence of Garth Brooks. If he comes to your town or a rally near by don’t miss his show. With the city lights in the background I will remember that concert for a long time. Lynyrd Skynyrd, Great White, Los Lobos and Los Lonely Boys still to come.

In the Days that followed I went on several Runs: The American Heroes Charity Poker Run, started at the Tropicana, was just fantastic. Celebrating Route 66 an amazing feel of history….

You can just imagine Buddy Holly or Elvis Presley cruzing next to you in a 57 Cadillac… This run ended with prizes food and entertainment at Mother Road HD in Kingman, AZ.

Earlier that day I checked out Kuryakyn, a huge aftermarket company started in 1989, to see some of the cool new bolt-on stuff. Fender tips to tail lights and hard saddlebag extensions are all cool and new! And guess what, Bling is in! For me, I like all the lights I can have at night…Pick up their Catalog, it’s worth a look.

Fast forward >>> Party put on by the Southern California Harley Dealers Association really set the tone for a great rally. John Paliwoda (So Cal H-D Dealer Assoc Executive Director) and company pulled all the stops on this one. Prime rib and a totally danceable band, I got pictures to prove it, really made for a fun night. Some pictures may need adult supervision>>> Just kidding. 36 JUNE 2014 JUNE 2014 37 Our adventure began by waking early and loading the bike with the essentials for a quick 2 night stay at The River Palms. We headed out Friday morning only to encounter a lengthy detour near Thomas Rd. and the 101. In an attempt at sensitivity I will only tell you that I don’t think the guy actually jumped from the bridge but he did cause quite the commotion and many news station were present. We arrived in Laughlin, helmets on heads, with the party already in full swing. After unloading and grabbing a bite to eat we met up with some friends and enjoyed the Laughlin festivities. 38 JUNE 2014 JUNE 2014 39 Show was put together well, and 1st, 2nd & 3rd place plaques plus cash/merchandise certificates were given out.

A real highlight of the weekend was attending the Lynyrd Skynyrd concert with friends Rick & Stell, and my beautiful Esther. Esther and Stell stayed (safely in their seats) – while Rick and I braved our way “all the way up to the extreme front row” and ended up directly at stage front. It was an epic “Best Bro-Hangout Moment for Rick and I - as we joined the crowd in singing along with all of the favorites: Free Bird, Sweet Home Alabama, Tuesdays Gone with the Wind, and so many others.

Skynyrd was as tight as ever – as they pounded out one song after the next. Led by: Johnny (with energy driven, powerful vocals), and the 3 Amigos – early guitarists: Gary, Ricky, and the new addition: Mark “Sparky”– did their incredible triple-searing guitar solos, backed by melodic keyboards by Peter “Keys”, thundering bass by Johnny, and atomic-blasting drums by Michael. The Honkettes (their pretty female backup singers: Dale – Gary’s wife, and Carol) sounded better than ever. As you can assume, Skynyrd is one of my favorite bands. They totally rocked the Laughlin River Run with everything they had. It really was a “Skynyrd Nation” that evening.

The city of Laughlin usually lets you wear your club cuts in the vendor areas, but not in the hotels (so we of course did our “annual flip them” inside out, so they have to try to guess what club you’re in thing). The cops even told me they really hate “not knowing who – is who”.

The Sunday morning service is always such a blessing, and filled with the regular church folks and lots of BFC and CMA members. Pastor Gene and his crew are always so hospitable. The church crowd really enjoyed my Biblical, but also very humorous message.

The verdict: The Laughlin River Run is alive and kicking harder than ever in Nevada. It was, and has always been one of the best rallies on the West Coast every year. Performance Specialists in the Kingman Airport complex (and a sponsor of Quick Throttle’s River Run Event Guide each year) comes up with some unique ways to have fun. Although cold, windy, raining and hailing early in the day, the Biker Palooza Extravaganza show must go on so, between protecting 5th Gear’s band equipment or just dodging the hail that actually fell, not much beer was sold but lots of coffee and shots of Jim Beam were the big hits, along with the charitable causes supported.

There was a Bike Drop from a crane, followed by a Bike Smash (with big sledge hammers!) and trophies including yes a Ladies Power Trophy. In the Dueling Bike Burnout, in- house bike tech Jesse beat Kelly with a popped tire, winning the trophy and a new tire!

A local group served up burgers & hotdogs supporting the Run For The Wall-- proceeds would be donated to the riders coming through Kingman in May heading to Washington DC for the Memorial Day Celebration. Kingman Fire Fighters Association served up beverages as their fundraiser. Several motorcycle related vendors, Mad Dog Radio K-Rock’s live remote and the Bikini Bike Wash still took place even in the brisk cool wind.

One last note on being a good neighbor, Kelly and Jesse took time during the festivities to work on a half dozen bikes that were having problems just to get the travelers back on the road. Kelly knows the feeling of breaking down during a run so he is always willing to help when he can.

By Digger Dave On March 3rd 2014 Detective John Hobbs, his partner and another officer were attempting to serve a felony warrant on a suspect who had just been released from prison in late January of this year. The suspect fled in his car with the officers in pursuit until the suspect vehicle crashed at an intersection, then things went really bad. Both the suspect and the officers exited their cars at just about the same time, the suspect immediately began firing and two officers were hit. Detective Hobbs took a round to the heart as he exited his car yet as he collapsed to the ground he somehow managed to return fire hitting the suspect several times. Neither officer was wearing a vest and the suspect died as a result of the firefight. Officer Hobbs, 43, spent 21 years on the force and is survived by his wife and 3 young children.

52 JUNE 2014 JUNE 2014 53 Bikers to the Rescue Squatters Who Took Over Soldiers Home Sent Running for the Hills

Source: Buzzpo Two squatters, who took over a soldiers home, are run- ning scared tonight after refusing to leave for police and other authorities. The two, both convicts, moved in and changed the locks. This was four months ago and neigh- bors say that cars are coming and going all the time , dogs are running around unleashed and strange charac- ters lurking around at all hours.

Army Spc. Michael Sharkey, who owns the house with his wife are cur- rently living in Hawaii, where he is stationed. They haven’t lived in the home for the past two years and when he contacted the police, they were told it was a civil matter and the police could not get involved.

The two squatters, Julio Ortiz and his girlfriend, Fatima Cardoso, told police that they had a deal with the person Sharkey left in charge of the house, that would allow them to live in the house in exchange for improve- ments and maintenance work on the property. Lisa Pettus, Sharkey’s friend denied that any such deal was ever struck.

Ortiz spent 12 years in a New Jersey prison for robbery, car jacking and selling drugs on school property. He was busted three times last year in Pasco County, Fla. for minor charges. Cardoso served more than two years on drug charges. She has been arrested 7 times since 2011 on drug charges.

Lauren Price of Veteran Warriors said that Ortiz picked the wrong house. She said that veterans all around the world want to help and that a lawyer has been secured, who will handle the eviction process pro bono. Volun- teers came forward and offered to keep an eye on the place to make sure no vandalism would occur.

Then two motorcycle clubs, made up mostly of veterans, told the local TV station that they were riding to the Sharkey house to peacefully make Ortiz uncomfortable.

Once Ortiz heard that, he packed up and hightailed it out of there as fast as his legs could carry him. Neighbors say the house appears to be empty again.

Veteran Warriors are organizing a clean up day for the house.
