Susan Martha (née Neshaim) Allbee - Died Saturday, February 5, 2011 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview. She was a resident of Waverly, Iowa formerly of Mankato, Minnesota. She was 63 years of age and a resident of Waverly, Iowa. The cause of death was pulmonary fibrosis. She was born on October 11, 1947, in Mankato, Minnesota to the late Glen Nesheim and Sylvia Nesheim, who survives in Mankato. Susan achieved her Bachelor's and Master's degrees at the University of Northern Iowa and continued as an instructor of sociology and women's studies where she enjoyed challenging her students to think globally and explore other views and appreciate their differences. Susan's enduring positive attitude allowed her to survive her battle with pulmonary fibrosis for 12 years. She was an At-Large Life Member of Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America - Iowa. Susan is survived by husband Dwight; daughter, Katia of Waverly; son, Eamon (Dawn) of Tinley Park, Ill.; mother, Sylvia Nesheim of Mankato Minn.; brother Steven Nesheim (Debra Elmore-Nesheim) of Bayfield, Wis.; sister Toni Nesheim (Denny Salomonson) of Grayslake, Ill.; brother John (Marie) Nesheim of Woodbury, Minn.; three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her are her father, Glen; brother, David; and niece, Rachel Salomonson. A funeral service was held on Thursday, February 10th, at 11:00 AM at the Messiah Lutheran Church located at 1706 Lee Boulevard in North Mankato with Reverend Jim Ahlquist officiating. Visitation was on Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the North Mankato Mortuary-Northview in Mankato and continued one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial was in the Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery. THOMAS L. ASHLEY - Died at 5:10 PM on Sunday, July 2, 2017 in Canton Illinois at the age of 66. The cause of death is unknown. He was born on May 17, 1951 in Canton to the late Charles and Donna (née Van Liew) Ashley. He married the love of his life, LuAnne Miles, on May 30, 1992 at Wiley Lutheran Church in Ellisville. She Survives. He is also survived by two sons, Cory (Carrie) Ashley and Zachary (Kim) Ashley; four sisters, Lynn (Michael) Kozubal of Tucson, AZ, Deborah (John) Bates of Canton, Patrice (David) Edgar of Troy, IL, and Beth Ashley of Tucson, AZ; one brother, Donald (Marty) Ashley of Tucson, AZ; four grandchildren, Bryant Ashley, Tucker Ashley, Will Ashley, and Ava Ashley; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Milissa Ashley, Cheryl Hilton, and Pam Neely, and one brother, Mitchell Ashley. Thomas retired from the Canton School District. He had a passion for motorcycles and enjoyed his beloved dog Jasmine. Thomas served as a helicopter gunner in the Vietnam War with the United States Army. He was an At-Large Member of Vietnam Veterans of America – Illinois. Graveside services were at the Shields Chapel Cemetery in rural Canton on Monday, July 10, 2017 at 1:00 PM with military honors. The Reverend David Meader officiated. Cremation rites were accorded though the Sedgwick Funeral Homes and Crematory. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. STEPHEN J. “Steve” AUKER – Died Tuesday December 5, 2017 in Altoona, Pennsylvania at the age of 67. The cause of death was cancer. He was born in Altoona to the late Emery B. “Gus” and B. Louise (née Gross) Auker. He was first married to Barbara Mallam who preceded him in death on October 7, 2012, and on February 14, 2015, he married Cathy A. Reish. Surviving are his wife, Cathy; two daughters, Julie (Michael) Blas, of Apex, NC and Carolyn (Matthew) Kilgore, of Red Lion; a stepdaughter, Heather McCulley; a stepson, Travis (Kristen) Stevenson; three granddaughters, Alexis Blas, Colleen and Mackenzie Kilgore; three step- granddaughters, Alicia and Courtney McCulley and Hanna Stevenson, and; a step- grandson, Logan Stevenson. He was a 1969 graduate of Altoona Area High School and served in the United States Coast Guard during the Vietnam-era. He also served in the United States Navy Reserves. He worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Health South Rehabilitation Hospital and was formerly employed by: Penn Central, Conrail, and Norfolk Southern Railroads and was an outstanding greeter and assistant at The Good Funeral Home, Inc. Steve was a lifelong member of Wehnwood United Methodist Church. He was a member of various clubs and organizations including: Juniata Gap Volunteer Fire Department, where he once served as assistant Chief, Newburg Vol. Fire Department, Naval Enlisted Reserve Association, a life member of the James L. Noble Post #3, Coast Guard Sea Veterans of America, Coast Guard Auxiliary, National Guard Veteran Association, Blair County War Counsel, a Life Member of Vietnam Veterans of America – Hollidaysburg Chapter #967, Murray-Appleman Post #147, Navy League of the United States, Blair County Veterans Honor Guard, Unter Uns, Bavarian Aide Society, Heidelburg Country Club, Horseshoe Cloggers, Lakemont Lions Club, Logan Lodge No. 490 and he was a past commander of the Jaffa Legion of Honor. Steve was a past member of the American Reserve Nurses Corps and Citizens Emergency Response Team. He also volunteered at the Van Zandt VA Medical Center and was a Red Cross blood donor receiving a 16-gallon pin for his donations. Friends were received from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday, December 11, 2017 at the Good Funeral Home, Inc., Alto-Reste Park, where a Masonic service was held at 7:00 PM. Friends were received from 10:00 until the 11:00 AM funeral service on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at the Wehnwood United Methodist Church, Altoona with Pastor Evelyn Madison officiating. The committal service, along with Military Honors, provided by The Blair County Veterans Honor Guard was at the Alto-Reste Park Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to, Wehnwood United Methodist Church, Lakemont Lions Club or to the Jaffa Shrine Legion of Honor. JOHN LYLE BABER - Died Thursday, January 25, 2018 in Flower Hospital, Sylvania, Ohio at the age of 68. He was a resident of Petersburg, Michigan. The cause of death is unknown. He was born on December 8, 1949 in Toledo, Ohio to the late John C. and Shirley (née Ankney) Baber. He graduated from Summerfield High School in 1969. He married Ladona Johnson in August 1969 in Monroe. He worked for GM, Willow Run Assembly for 22 years when the plant closed, he then transferred to Toledo Powertrain where he worked until he retired on June 1, 2001. He then drove a semi-truck for 8 years, which he loved doing. John was drafted into the United States Army and served in Vietnam from April 1970-June 1971. He was a Charter Member and a Life Member of Vietnam Veterans of America – Monroe Chapter #142, where he served as past: president, vice president, secretary, board of director and newsletter editor. He was also a member of Deerfield American legion, where he served as the adjutant for many years, a member of VFW Post #1138, and the Dundee DAV, where he also served as adjutant. He loved riding his Harley, traveling, spending time with his family, he loved watching his grandchildren and being with them and especially loved spoiling his dog, Rocky. Friends visited at the Capaul Funeral Home, Ida, MI, on Monday, January 29, 2018, from 4:00-8:00 PM. There was a service on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Capaul Funeral Home, Ida, MI. Chaplain Michael Pennington officiated. Burial was in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Petersburg, MI. LESTER RALPH BANTA, JR. - Died Thursday, December 21, 2017 in Whitman, Massachusetts at the age of 75. He was formerly of West Yarmouth, Massachusetts. The cause of death is unknown. He was born on January 3, 1942. He is survived by his wife. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a Life Member of Vietnam Veterans of America – Port Richey Chapter #1003. McKinnon Funeral Home in Whitman, Massachusetts oversaw the arrangements. RICHARD C. “Dick” BARBER - Died Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at The Laurels of Defiance, Ohio at the age of 71, after a two-month illness. He was a resident of Sherwood, Ohio. The cause of death was CNS primary lymphoma of the frontal lobe of the brain. He was born on May 9, 1944 in Lyons, Ohio to the late Charles and Mary (née Mach) Barber. Dick was a 1962 graduate of Swanton High School, attended General Motors Institute in Flint, Michigan and graduated from Defiance College in 1973. On April 21, 1967, Dick was united in marriage to Ruth A. Gaston. Dick proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968. He retired as a supervisor in 1996 from General Motors in Defiance, Ohio after 33 years, after which he worked at Sears and Holiday Lanes, Defiance. Dick was a member of the Mark Center United Methodist Church, Mark Center, Ohio, AMVETS Post #1991, Moose Lodge #2094 all in Defiance, Ohio, and the Bryan Eagles #2233. He was a Life Member of Vietnam Veterans of America – Defiance Chapter #954. Dick is survived by his wife Ruth; son, David (Jill) Barber of Vandalia, Ohio; daughter Cheryl (Brett) Spires of Wauseon, Ohio; the grandchildren he dearly loved, Jonathan Barber, Nicholas Barber, Josie Spires, three step-grandchildren and a brother, Ralph Barber of Wauseon, Ohio. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Ethan Spires. Services for Dick were on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at the Smith and Brown Funeral Home, Hicksville with Pastors Jim Spears and Chuck Schmunk co-officiating.
