Three teams from the Lahore School of Economics participated at the British Parliamentary competition held at Ghulam Ishaq Khan (Topi) each year. This year, a team of Aqsa Tabish and Mustafa Sadiq Tawab reached the semi-finals of the tournament.

LSEAD won both English and trophies at Kinnaird College Debating Championship 2013. The Urdu team was being represented by Umair Ghuman , Ahmad Butt and Shahraiz Chishti. And the English team was represented by Zain Haider , Hamza Ghaznavi and Saad Sohail.

The Lahore School Debate was hosted by the Lahore School of Economics and was based on the Asian format of debating. This year 42 teams from schools and universities all over took part in the English debate. Alongside 16 teams also participated in the Urdu Asian format.

™™ Lahore School at WUDC*, Chennai. . 27th Dec 2013- 6th Jan 2014

Two teams from the Lahore School were sent to participate at the World University Debating Championship, held this year in Tamil Nadu, India. The first team was represented by Syed Ali Akbar Abbas Rizvi and Wasae Imran. The second team was represented by Alishae Khar and Shahraiz Chisti. Both the teams performed well and debated against prestigious debating schools from Oxford, Harvard and Cambridge. *World University Debating Championship

™™ Winners at LGS* Challenge Cup 19th January 2014

The 2nd Lahore School British Parliamentary Debates was held at the Burki Campus from April 25th to 27th, following the World University Style format. Umair Ghuman, Muhammad Hamza Mirza and Wasae Imran won the Lahore Grammar This year 32 teams participated in the English School Defense Urdu parliamentary category and 16 teams in Urdu. The competition championship. was overseen by some of the most reputed * debates and judges of the Lahore circuit.

A team of Shahkaar Ali Bukhari, Raina Iqbal and another team of Waleed Masood and Syed Hamza runner ups the English Parliamentary Debating Championship 2014. A team of Umair Ghumman and Agha Ali were runner ups in Urdu Parliamentary at the tournament.

™™ International Tournament of United A team represented by Syed Hamza, Waleed Asians Debating Championship: Masood and Haris Salman won at the Lahore Nanaya Tech University (NTU), Medical College debates. Singapore, nd Syed Hamza was also declared as the best 22 May 2014 speaker of the tournament. Zain Haider, Hamza Ghaznavi and Saad * Combined Military Hospital Sohail are the only team from Pakistan to break into the United Asians Debating Championship. ™™ Runners up at Allama Iqbal Medical College This competition is extremely prestigious. With 20th May 2014 a total of 120 teams from all over Asia.The team from LSE was ranked at 17th position. It is the only team from Pakistan in the history of the Asians tournament to reach the Octa Finals of the competition.

™™ LSMS Council workshops

Lahore School held its annual Music Fest, which was an internal Battle of the Bands competition. Some of the best bands at the Lahore School performed against each other for the title of the “Best Band”.

The council also holds its regular training sessions with new members of the society, to familiarize them with music. The sessions are held on demand per basis. Whenever the need is felt to train students (especially newcomers) a session is held in Garden Cafeteria. For this academic year, 12 sessions have been held in total by the council/.

The Lahore School Music Society council 2014 hosted their LSE Idol during the 12th, 13th and 14th of June. It was the first music event to ever take place in the Main Cafe. It was also the first music event to last three days. Instead of auditions, this event was made open for anyone to apply. The first 30 applicants performed out of which 10 were selected for the second day and further narrowed down to 3 on the last day. The diverse judges panel included two faculty members of LSE: Zahra Zamir and Shamoon Khan along with two celebrities: Zaheer and Nadeem abbas. The event was faced by an overflowing Main Cafe hall and was a great success with Abubakr Bari emerging as a winner.

ŠŠ The Lahore School society of Literature conducts regular writing workshops, book club meetings, and poetry and prose recitation competitions. ŠŠ The society has also hosted renowned author, Mohsin Hamid (author of Moth Smoke, Reluctant Fundamentalist) for an interactive discussion session with the society.

A music event organized by the Welfare society in which the students of Lahore School of Economics were given a chance to come up on stage and show their singing talents. A bake sale was also organized in the same event to raise some funds for donation.

Newsletter Lahore School of Economics Extra-Curricular 2013-2014 11 ™™ Halloween 4th November 2013 Halloween organized by the welfare society in collaboration with the arts society. Stalls of food and face paints were also arranged in the event. Huge sum of funds were collected which were then donated to different associations for the welfare of the people.

™™ Career Counseling 13th February 2014 A Fulbright scholarship holder was invited at Lahore School of Economics to give the students some lecture and guidance about the “Fulbright Scholarship” and they were guided with regards to their career and bright futures.

™™ Donation for Thar April 2014 A table was set in The Garden Café, by a student “Mueez Najam Qureshi” with the help of Welfare Society, to collect the funds for the Thar affected people. Banners were hung and leaflets were distributed around the campus. A page under the name ‘Aid For Thar Affectees’ was also created on the social networking site of Facebook to enlighten people outside the university about this charity cause and asking them to donate as well. Students as well as teachers actively participated in this campaign and a major rule was played by the university administration. A substantial amount of RS 92,400 along with bottles of water and food items was collected within a week. Food items were immediately dispatched to Tharparkar with the help of local trusts, whereas the sum gathered was donated to the Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) Emergency Relief Fund from where it was put to best possible use for the Thar affectees.

™™ Orientation 6th Sep 2014 The new council’s term started with an orientation on September 6th, 2013 that showcased Lahore School Arts Society’s (LSArtS) history. Auditions of the new talent were also taken by showing a “Manga” sketch on the projector and asking the participants to draw it in 15 minutes.

™™ Graphics Workshop Oct 25, 2013

The first workshop of term 13-14 was the Graphics Workshop held on October 25th, 2013 which taught its participants the introduction to designs and Adobe Photoshop. Students showed great enthusiasm in learning the major designing tool of 21st century.

™™ Painting Workshop Nov 6, 2013

‘Painting Workshops’ is a series of workshops that helps the students of LSE learn everything related to painting in steps. These workshops are held monthly and sometimes weekly with a new painting method every time. The first continuation of this series was held on November 6th, 2013 inside Garden Cafe. Canvases, paints of different colors, palettes and brushes of different sizes were provided to all the participants.

™™ Halloween November 4th 2013

This term’s Halloween was held on November 4th, 2013 in the Garden Cafe where Arts society helped creating a scary environment by making tunnel of death, graves, dead bodies, Halloween pumpkins, bats and cats along with orange-yellow lighting around the venue. There was a bake-sale and a social evening managed by the Social Welfare Society. Around 500 students showed up by the end of this term’s Halloween eve.

Artify LSE was a painting competition arranged for the artist niche of LSE held on the November 28th, 2013. Canvases, paints and brushes were provided to the participants along with art equipment. Ten of the best artists were recognized for their skills.

� Abstract Painting Workshop May 7, 2014

The abstract painting workshop, held on May 7th, 2014 was also a part of the ‘Painting Series’. Ten different techniques of abstract painting were taught to the participants. Again, the art equipment including canvases , paints and brushes were provided to all the participants. The student’s paintings were showcased in the garden cafe and the best ones were selected to be displayed.

™™ Origami Workshop May 14, 2014

The Origami (paper folding art) workshop held on 14th may 2014 was one of a kind workshop that had a Chinese instructor giving an interactive session on Origami to the society’s members via Skype in the LSE’s Faculty Lounge. Colorful sheets of papers were provided to the members who learned many different Origami shapes in this two hour session.

The Lahore School Sports Society also Participated in the LUMS Sports Fest from the 23-27th of December. LSE went into the Sports Fest as the Defending Champions. LSE Won Gold in Tennis.

™™ FAST Sports Challenge (10th-12th January 2014)

Winners Male Futsal Event. The Boys Basketball Team bagged the 3rd position at this event. The Girls Basketball Team Won the event, and the Volleyball team was runners up and the girls futsal team was third overall.

™™ Events Hosted by LSE (2013-2014)

9TH-11TH October, LSE hosted a Tri-Series between LUMS, FCC and LSE. LUMS won the overall event for both boys and girls.

™™ The Lahore School Sports Excellence Ceremony (5th March 2014).

The purpose of the cermeony was to look back at the year 2013 and give recognition to both sportsmen and women for their contribution to the society. Best players, sports man and woman of the year were declared at the ceremony.

The Sports Gala is the biggest event hosted every year by LSE. This year a total of 11 school and universities participated in the event in different sports. The Male Events included Football, Cricket, Hockey, Basketball, Volleyball and Rugby. The Female Events included Football, Volleyball and Basketball.

Lahore School of Economics Photography Society conducted a photography 101 workshop with Irfan Ahson. Over a hundred people attended the workshop.

18 Newsletter Lahore School of Economics Extra-Curricular 2013-2014 Irfan Ahson is one of the best photographers in the industry and has conducted workshops in all the major institutions of Pakistan Lahore School of Economics conducted a photography workshop with Ubaid Ullah Ahmed, an LSE graduate working as a professional photographer. It was the first photography workshop in the history of the society and the response of the students was impressing. The workshop was interactive and most of the people attending were interested in learning more about photography. Lahore School of Economics started a new initiative “LSE in Frames”. The idea behind it was to capture a normal day at the campus. Most of the members from the society took part in it and almost every corner of LSE was put under the highlight.

™™ Photo Walk 8th June 2014

Lahore School Photography Society (LSEPS) conducted a Photo walk (on June 8th, 2014) after two successful workshops on basic and intermediate photography to Lahore Fort and Badshahi Mosque. Lahore School Arts Society was also invited on the Photo walk and they actively participated in this trip where they learned a lot about the architecture and history from the guide provided by the Photography Society.
