South Asia Area Head Of Operations: Mustanser Ali Khan Newsletter Lahore School of Economics Extra-Curricular 2013-2014 3 Lahore School of Economics Association of Debaters (LSEAD) Debating at Lahore School of Economics Honorable mention at ACMUN* 9th September 2013 Students of Lahore School of Economics Marriam Musa, Ahmed Bilal, Zainab Shahid, Moiz Javed and Ahmad Kazi Won the award of Honorable Mention at the Model United Nations held at Aitchison College (ACMUN). *Aitchison College Model United Nations Semi Finalists at Ghulam Ishaq Khan 18th November 2013 Three teams from the Lahore School of Economics participated at the British Parliamentary competition held at Ghulam Ishaq Khan (Topi) each year. This year, a team of Aqsa Tabish and Mustafa Sadiq Tawab reached the semi-finals of the tournament. Winners at Kinnaird College 25th November 2013 LSEAD won both English and Urdu trophies at Kinnaird College Debating Championship 2013. The Urdu team was being represented by Umair Ghuman , Ahmad Butt and Shahraiz Chishti. And the English team was represented by Zain Haider , Hamza Ghaznavi and Saad Sohail. Best Delegate at LUMUN* 21st December 2013 This year Marrium Musa won the best delegate award at the Annual Model United Nations held at the Lahore University at Management Sciences (LUMS). *Lahore University Model United Nations 4 Newsletter Lahore School of Economics Extra-Curricular 2013-2014 Lahore School Debate 2014 (23rd-25th December 2013) The Lahore School Debate was hosted by the Lahore School of Economics and was based on the Asian format of debating. This year 42 teams from schools and universities all over took part in the English debate. Alongside 16 teams also participated in the Urdu Asian format. Lahore School at WUDC*, Chennai. India. 27th Dec 2013- 6th Jan 2014 Two teams from the Lahore School were sent to participate at the World University Debating Championship, held this year in Tamil Nadu, India. The first team was represented by Syed Ali Akbar Abbas Rizvi and Wasae Imran. The second team was represented by Alishae Khar and Shahraiz Chisti. Both the teams performed well and debated against prestigious debating schools from Oxford, Harvard and Cambridge. *World University Debating Championship Runner ups at BSS ALGC Cup 6th January 2014 A team of Shahzeb Rathore, Mibsam Shaukat and Saad Ali Khan were runners up Beacon House debating championship. Shazeb Rathore was also declared as the best speaker of the tournament. *Beacon House School System Octa-finalist at MukMem*, Delh. India 10th-16th January 2014 A team represented by Mibsam Shaukat and Saad Khan broke at an international tournament in India, were ranked at number 6 out of 52 teams at Mukherjee Memorial, Delhi. Umair Ghuman, Muhammad Hamza Mirza and Wasae Imran won the Lahore Grammar This year 32 teams participated in the English School Defense Urdu parliamentary category and 16 teams in Urdu. The competition championship. was overseen by some of the most reputed * Lahore Grammar School debates and judges of the Lahore circuit. 6 Newsletter Lahore School of Economics Extra-Curricular 2013-2014 Winners at CMH* Parliamentary Runners up at Fatima Memorial 12th May 2014 Parliamentary 25th May 2014 A team of Shahkaar Ali Bukhari, Raina Iqbal and another team of Waleed Masood and Syed Hamza runner ups the English Parliamentary Debating Championship 2014. A team of Umair Ghumman and Agha Ali were runner ups in Urdu Parliamentary at the tournament. International Tournament of United A team represented by Syed Hamza, Waleed Asians Debating Championship: Masood and Haris Salman won at the Lahore Nanaya Tech University (NTU), Medical College debates. Singapore, nd Syed Hamza was also declared as the best 22 May 2014 speaker of the tournament. Zain Haider, Hamza Ghaznavi and Saad * Combined Military Hospital Sohail are the only team from Pakistan to break into the United Asians Debating Championship. Runners up at Allama Iqbal Medical College This competition is extremely prestigious. With 20th May 2014 a total of 120 teams from all over Asia.The team from LSE was ranked at 17th position. It is the only team from Pakistan in the history of the Asians tournament to reach the Octa Finals of the competition. Shahkaar Ali Bukhari, Waleed Masood, Syed Hamza and Raina Iqbal on reached the finals of AIMC Parliamentary English Debating Championship 2014. LSMS Council workshops Lahore School held its annual Music Fest, which was an internal Battle of the Bands competition. Some of the best bands at the Lahore School performed against each other for the title of the “Best Band”. The council also holds its regular training sessions with new members of the society, to familiarize them with music. The sessions are held on demand per basis. Whenever the need is felt to train students (especially newcomers) a session is held in Garden Cafeteria. For this academic year, 12 sessions have been held in total by the council/. Newsletter Lahore School of Economics Extra-Curricular 2013-2014 9 Lahore School Idol 14th June 2014 The Lahore School Music Society council 2014 hosted their LSE Idol during the 12th, 13th and 14th of June. It was the first music event to ever take place in the Main Cafe. It was also the first music event to last three days. Instead of auditions, this event was made open for anyone to apply. The first 30 applicants performed out of which 10 were selected for the second day and further narrowed down to 3 on the last day. The diverse judges panel included two faculty members of LSE: Zahra Zamir and Shamoon Khan along with two celebrities: Zaheer and Nadeem abbas. The event was faced by an overflowing Main Cafe hall and was a great success with Abubakr Bari emerging as a winner. 10 Newsletter Lahore School of Economics Extra-Curricular 2013-2014 Lahore School Literature Society (LSSL) Reading and writing at the Lahore School The Lahore School society of Literature conducts regular writing workshops, book club meetings, and poetry and prose recitation competitions. The society has also hosted renowned author, Mohsin Hamid (author of Moth Smoke, Reluctant Fundamentalist) for an interactive discussion session with the society. Lahore School Social Welfare Society (LSWS) Charity and Social Awareness at Lahore School Voice of LSE and bake sale 19th September 2013 A music event organized by the Welfare society in which the students of Lahore School of Economics were given a chance to come up on stage and show their singing talents. A bake sale was also organized in the same event to raise some funds for donation.
