Located on the east side of University Park Campus on Figueroa Street across from the Galen Center, it features three courts with sand from the U.S. Olympic Training Center. The palm tree-encircled stadium also has bleachers and a grass berm for spectator seating, a scoreboard and audio system, lighting, restrooms, showers, and multiple team storage areas. Ground was broken to build the new venue in July of 2012 under the generous donations of Jack and Helen Nethercutt and John and Me- linda Muller, and a large sum from an anonymous donor. The Mullers have a daughter (Erica) on the 2013 squad. A USC alumnus, Jack Neth- ercutt served as vice president of marketing and later President of Merle Norman Cosmetics in 1973. He left the company to pursue other ventures but returned to his presidency in March of 2002 and now serves as Chairman of the Board with his wife Helen as Vice Chairman. The stadium is named for Nethercutt’s great aunt and namesake of the cosmetics corporation, Merle Nethercutt Norman. Jack and Helen are active in Los Angeles non-profits and charities and are Galen Founders, Scholarship Club members, and Conquest supporters of the USC Trojan Marching Band. On Thursday, March 7, 2013, USC officially opened and dedicated Merle Norman Stadium in conjunction with the beach volleyball pro- gram’s alumni match. The Nethercutts were on hand to cut the ribbon with first Trojan head coach Anna Collier and athletic director Pat Haden. USC All-America alumnae and Olympic beach volleyball silver medalists Jennifer Kessy and April Ross christened the sand in their return to campus for the special match. The Women of Troy played their first dual match in the stadium on Sunday, March 10, 2013, and earned a 4-1 victory over Loyola Mary- mount. The stadium hosted the inaugural Pac-12 Championship in 2016. USC produced a 7-3 mark in 2013 and was 8-0 in 2014 on its home sand at Merle Norman Stadium. USC also went undefeated in 2015 (10-0) and in 2017 (8-0). In 2018, the AVP saw Phil Dalhausser, Nick Lucena, April Ross, and Alix Klineman take home first place in the Austin Open. Dalhausser and Lucena also won the Austin Open in 2018, adding on to their impressive resume. The AVP is excited to welcome you to the 2019 Austin Open. The 2019 season is shaping up to be an amazing experience for all, highlighted by eight unique tour stops.     1 Fédération Internationale de Volleyball [email protected] Telephone +41.21.345.3535 FACT SHEET - $1-million FIVB World Championships presented by comdirect & ALDI Nord Hamburg, Germany, June 28-July 7, 2019 Updated on June 24, 2019, this fact sheet provides information on the FIVB and the 2018-2019 World Tour calendar. The 2018-2019 FIVB World Tour calendar includes two five-star events, both are part of the Beach Major Series, 12 four-star events, 6 three-star events, 8 two-star events, and 29 one-star events, along with the FIVB World Championships and the World Tour Finals. One FIVB Age Group World Championships for players under the age of 21 will also be held along with an Olympic Qualification Tournament in September. The 2018-2019 World Tour began in August of 2018 in Hungary and will conclude in September of 2019 with The World Tour Finals in Rome, Italy. The 2018-2019 season marks the 33rd anniversary of the first FIVB Beach Volleyball event held February 17-22, 1987 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Eleven events played in 2018 in Hungary (Siofok), France (Montpellier), China (Zhongwei, Qinzhou, and Yangzhou), Iran (Bandar Torkaman, Babolsar, and Bandar Anzali), the United States (Las Vegas), Mexico (Chetumal), and Slovenia (Ljubljana) were a part of the 2018-2019 FIVB World Tour. The FIVB World Championships will be the 438th men’s event and 405th women’s event on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour (open, grand slam, Olympic and Goodwill). The first men’s FIVB World Tour event was played February 17-22, 1987 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil The first women’s event was played August 14-16, 1992 at Almeria, Spain.

The day will consist of 3 dual matches between the teams, as Florida State (which finished third at the 2012 AVCA National Collegiate Sand Volleyball Championships) first will take on Loyola Marymount from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., then USC will face Loyola Marymount from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (there will be a break between noon to 1 p.m.) and finally the Women of Troy will battle Florida State from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Each team dual match will consist of 5 matches between pairs, with each match being rally scoring best-of-3 sets. The Nos. 4 and 5 teams (and, if available, a No. 6 non-scoring team) will play in the first hour, followed by the Nos.
