2019 USC Beach Volleyball • Three-time National Champions OH, THE PLACES YOU’LL GO: The USC beach program is on the rise, and the 2019 USC Poll Progression nation knows. Since 2012, the Trojans have acquired student-athletes that have chosen to transfer in order to compete on one of the top teams in the country. Even USC’s two oldest traditional football rivals have been represented on the Trojan roster. Jo Kremer played indoor volleyball at Notre Dame in the fall of DATE RECORD AVCA DiG MAG 2014. 2016 graduate Zoe Nightingale and 2015 graduate Meg Norton were each previously members of UCLA’s indoor volleyball team. 2016 grad Alexa Strange FEB 11 (PRE) 0-0 No. 2 No. 2 gave up the indoor game at Nebraska to join the Trojans and Sophie Bukovec FEB 25 0-0 No. 2 No. 3 did the same after a successful season at Long Beach State. In 2016, the Trojans MAR 4 got a transfer from Georgetown, a traditional basketball power, when Terese Cannon made the coastal change. Alexandra Poletto completed her indoor MAR 11 career at Colorado State in the fall of 2017 and joined the Women of Troy for the MAR 19 2018 beach season. MAR 25 STAFF INFECTION: Over the years, the Trojans’ coaching staff has featured some APR 1 of the game’s biggest names. For four seasons (2015-18) Olympic gold-medal APR 8 winner Dain Blanton served as the team’s volunteer assistant coach. Blanton won beach volleyball gold in the 2000 Sydney Games with partner Eric Fonoimoana. APR 15 Fonoimoana joined the staff as volunteer assistant in the fall of 2018 and will APR 22 coach his first season in the spring of 2019. In 2015, Blanton replaced the Trojans’ MAY 6 (FINAL) former assistant Misty May-Treanor, who was a three-time Olympic gold-medal winner on the sand herself. In 2017, Gustavo Rocha joined the staff following a stint at Pepperdine as the Waves’ volunteer assistant coach. USC ALUMS ON THE BEACH: USC women’s volleyball players have shined on the pro beach world circuit, both internationally and domestically. Some top stars include Olympic medalists and Jennifer Kessy; Tracy (Lindquist) Jones (13-year pro); Geena Urango, Jessica Gysin, and Keao Burdine (young beach stars); Bibiana Candelas (indoor All-American who won the first-ever Collegiate Nationals Beach Championship in 2006); Paula Weishoff (an indoor Olympian and inductee); and Miki McFadden (indoor Olympian). More recently, Sara Hughes, Kelly Claes, Nicolette Martin, Allie Wheeler, and Terese @USCBeach Cannon have made inroads on the AVP (American Volleyball Professionals) tour.
