LOS ANGELES – The No. 2-ranked USC beach volleyball team (0-0) opens the 2019 campaign at home the sand of Merle Norman Sadium on Wednesday, March 27. The Women of Troy welcome in No. 13 Loyola Marymount (3-0) and No. 1 UCLA (5-0) for duals at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. PT respectively. Both matches will be shown live on Pac-12 Networks (National and Los Angeles). The Bruins are the defending Pac-12 and NCAA champions; and have won four straight against the Trojans. Crosstown Cup points are up for grabs in the 16th matchup between USC and UCLA. The Trojans are 9-6 all-time against the Bruins. USC has never lost to the Lions in 18 previous all-time meetings. CANNON ter-EES COLLIER AW-nuh CALL-yur Collier has led the Trojans to three national championships (AVCA EBERTIN EE-bur-tin 2015) including the first two NCAA titles in history. USC went 38-1 in 2017 and was 34-2 in 2016 when it finished on a 30-match winning FONOIMOANA fah-NOY-mo-AW-nah streak. The Trojans are the first team ever to win back-to-back HALLGREN HAY-lee crowns and are also the first to win three in a row. Under her care, GRAUDINA grah-DEE-nah USC also won consecutive Pac-12 titles (2016-17). In 2015, USC was KAISER MY-uhh undefeated (28-0) and won the AVCA’s national championship. Kirby Burnham and Hughes won the 2014 championship; and Burnham and Stevi Robinson won the 2013 crown. The Trojans went 16-8 in 2013 and made their first-ever AVCA semifinals appearance as a team. Burnham and Robinson became USC’s first-ever All-Americans in the sport. THE COLLIER FILE Collier took USC to a 7-4 record in 2012, the sport’s inaugural season as an NCAA emerging sport, and sent two USC teams to the pairs championship of the first VCAA pairs tourney.
