The 2018 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour continues with the starred classification of its events, with three five-star events, all of which are the Major Series, ten four-star events, six three-star events, six two-star events, and 21 one-star events, along with the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Finals. One FIVB Age Group World Championships for players under the age of 19 will also be held. The 2018 World Tour began in September of 2017 in France and concludes in August in Germany. 2018 marks the 32nd anniversary of the first FIVB Beach Volleyball event held February 17-22, 1987 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Four events played in 2017: France (Montpellier), China (Qinzhou), Netherlands (Aalsmeer), and Australia (Sydney), are part of the 2018 FIVB World Tour. Two events held in September-October, 2018 in China (Qinzhou and Yangzhou) will be part of the 2019 FIVB World Tour. · The double-gender $300,000 FIVB Huntington Beach Four Star is the 15th men’s event and the tenth women’s event on the 2018 FIVB World Tour. The FIVB returns to the United States for the sixth straight year and 13th season overall. For more information regarding the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour, please visit fivb.com. · May 1-6, Huntington Beach, California, United States, Men and Women, $300,000 – The United States has hosted 36 previous FIVB World Tour events, every season from 1995 through 1998, including the 1996 Olympic Games, 1997 World Championships, and 1998 Goodwill Games, then 2000 and 2003 before the previous five seasons. Ft. Lauderdale hosted a double-gender five-star Major Series event in February of this year. Huntington Beach has never hosted an FIVB World Tour event. The venue will be at the pier in Huntington Beach. Host country United States has won 38 previous medals on its home soil, 21 men’s and 17 women’s including six men’s gold and six women’s gold. · The FIVB Huntington Beach Four Star starts May 1 and concludes May 6. The winning teams for each gender will share the $20,000 first-place prize.
