The sector outperformed after a period of weak performance and a rotation to defensives during the month. The Australian market underperformed the S&P500 (+2.8%) with U.S. GDP growth exceeding expectations and renewed hope over the potential for the Trump administration’s proposed corporate tax cuts. In company news, the Santos Limited share price was up 12.9% after the press reported a potential takeover bid from Harbour Energy. An indicative offer in August from Harbour Energy proposed to acquire the company for $4.55 per share, however this proposal was rejected by the board. S&P/ASX200 Top & Bottom performing sectors for the month ending 30 November: The best performing sectors in the S&P/ASX200 Accumulation Index for the month were Consumer Durables & Apparel (+13.3%), Capital Goods (+6.1%) and Automobiles & Components (+5.9%).
