PASSENGER RAIL TRANSPORT: ECONOMICS AND MANAGEMENT Сourse reading for the scientific seminar Speaker: Doctor of Economics, Associate Professor Larisa V. Lapidus Lomonosov Moscow State University Moscow, 2013 Kenneth Button, Transport Economics, 3rd Edition, Edward Elgar Publishing, 2010, 528 p. M.R. Cairns, Transport ' . this book does read very much like a textbook; it explains economic concepts clearly, often in both words and mathematical equations, and identifies their relevance in the transport field. Transport Economics does provide a good basis with which to understand most of the issues behind what is one of the fastest moving areas of environmental activity in an area where most books will be out of date almost as soon as they are written anyway.' Marcus Enoch, Environmental Politics Transport Economics is a thoroughly revised edition of a well- established textbook which applies economic analysis to transport issues.* About the Author Kenneth J. Sparling, Introduction to Transport Economics: Demand, Cost, Pricing, and Adoption, Universal-Publishers, 2009, 452 p. Introduction to Transport Economics looks at the different modes of transport and investigates the past and present influences on their behaviour. … He discusses the future of transport; in the light of climate change and likely fossil fuel shortages, it is important to have a clear idea of what we wish to achieve with a transport system. Also included are a chapter on developing countries, as well as a chapter about international transport as a whole.

  • 1 Tram, Trolleybus and Bus Services in Eastern-European Socialist Urban
1 TRAM, TROLLEYBUS AND BUS SERVICES IN EASTERN-EUROPEAN SOCIALIST URBAN PLANNING. CASE STUDIES OF MAGDEBURG, OSTRAVA AND ORYOL (1950s and 1960s)1 Article published in the Journal of Transport History, June 18, 2020 Authors: Elvira Khairullina2 and Luis Santos y Ganges3 Abstract This study examines urban collective transport policy in the city planning of three European countries under the Socialist Bloc in the 1950s and 1960s. The main aim is to account for the success of the private car in approaches to urban infrastructure, and to understand how this affected tramway system planning. This then leads to a new perspective in understanding the conflict between the adoption of transport vehicles: The diversity of argument in tramway planning has been analysed using official publications, professional literature, and the urban and transport plans of the three case study cities. It results that planning solutions prioritised more national and local conditions, their logic and the singularity of their characteristics over the specific principles related to the ideology of the communist regimes. Keywords: Trams, urban public transport, socialist urban planning, Magdeburg, Ostrava, Oryol. I. Introduction The role of the tram in the traffic management of modern urban planning began to be examined in countries with high levels of motorisation, such as the United States, the United Kingdom and France, 1 Funding: This article is a part of the research of the UrbanHIST project, which has received funding from the research and innovation programme “Horizon 2020” of the European Union under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie no. 721933. 2 PhD student in Architecture at the University of Valladolid (Valladolid, Spain) and in Urban History at the University of Pavol Jozef Šafárik (Košice, Slovakia).

As part of the launch of a new light rail system, Denmark's third largest city, Odense, has placed an order for the manufacture and supply of sixteen trams type Variobahn. The order totals around 45 million Euro. Stadler signed the deal to supply 16 low-floor LRVs during an official event on 14th June with the operator Odense Letbane. By the end of 2020 the fleet of trams should enter service. This is Stadler's second light rail contract in Denmark. Back in 2014 the rail manufacturer was selected to supply 23 VARIOBAHN and TANGO LRVs to the Danish city, Aarhus. Like Aarhus, an entirely new rail infrastructure is being constructed in Odense. The first vehicle will be delivered to Denmark in autumn 2019. By December 2020 Odense plans to launch the fleet in the local transport network. The new tramlines are forecast to connect around 35,000 passengers, 33,000 workplaces as well as 23,000 student study spaces every day. “In the last few years selected cities in Denmark are beginning to build light rail systems. Winning the bid for the initial project in Aarhus and now again in Odense reinforces the success of our experienced VARIOBAHN.” says Ulf Braker, CEO of Stadler Pankow. “Once again we are extremely proud to have a great product meet with such success in the international market.
