  • Conner George 14-2 - Spartan Years (2018-2019) - Redshirt Junior Season
Chapter 14 - Conner George 14-2 - Spartan Years (2018-2019) - Redshirt Junior Season Conner George With the Spartans 2018-19 season approaching and three seasons (redshirt, redshirt freshman, and redshirt sophomore) of experience under his belt, George continued to work hard to play a key role on the Spartans squad, especially with the team’s new mix of players, given the loss of five players (three to graduation plus both Miles Bridges and Jaren Jackson, Jr. to the NBA) and the addition of an incoming freshman class of five new players. However, before the start of the 2018-19 season, The Black Sheep MSU, was again up to its “fake news” reporting with breaking news that the “Phoenix Suns planned to select Conner George with the first pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.” With this now being the third time that Conner was the “butt” of a Black Sheep article, a now tough-skinned George took the ribbing in stride and tweeted the perfect comeback: “First of all I just want like to thank God…” 2018-19 Going into his third season of NCAA eligibility (redshirt junior), George was listed in his MSU bio at 6’4”, 200 pounds. The Spartans’ team composition for the 2018-19 season changed significantly from 2017-18 season between departures (those who graduated or left early to enter NBA) and the incoming 2018 Recruiting Class (see team roster at bottom of next page). 2018-19 Spartans Men’s Basketball Squad (#41 Conner George) While George is listed as a Guard, in games he normally plays on the left or right wing (as forward), with the guard position covered by the starters (Cassius Winston and Josh Langford) or subs (Kyle Ahrens, freshman Foster Loyer, or Jack Hoiberg), leaving George with the challenge of competing for playing time at forward with taller players: starters Matt McQuaid (6’5”) and Kenny Goins (6’6”), 6’9” Xavier Tillman who also backs up center Nick Ward, and four freshman all listed at forward: Aaron Henry (6’6’), Gabe Brown (6’7”), Thomas Kithier (6’8”), and Marcus Bingham (6’10”).

Tennessee 93 South Carolina 73 Feb. 17, 2021 | Thompson-Boling Arena | Knoxville, Tenn. Tennessee Head Coach Rick Barnes On what he thought of VJ and Fulky’s performance tonight: “Again, the last couple of days of practice we were short of guys, and we just individually kept talking to guys that they have to get themselves involved, because we can only do so much from a coaching staff standpoint. Our offense since Fulky has been here hasn’t changed a whole lot, and if it had changed some, it’s because we have had to take advantage of some other talent. Otherwise, his position really hasn’t changed that much. We said they’re going to have to do it. I thought he did the best job of running tonight that he’s done all year. He really ran the floor hard and again I think he’s got to play quicker in the post, and he is wanting to catch it and spin and do this and that. He’s not going to get time to do that, unless he does his work early. With VJ, the last two days Santi wasn’t able to practice, so those three guys worked together, and I thought it probably helped VJ as much as any the last two days playing the point, and understanding what we want to do, and I thought he did a really good job with it.” On what the last few days were like with COVID circumstances: “Well, we knew regardless if the test results came back, we had to play by rule.

  • 使用專業語料庫增加籃球英語教材詞彙及搭配詞的豐富度 Using a Specialized Web Corpus to Enrich the Lexical Items and Collocations of a Basketball English Teaching Material
國立臺灣師範大學英語學系 碩士論文 Master‟s Thesis Graduate Institute of English National Taiwan Normal University 使用專業語料庫增加籃球英語教材詞彙及搭配詞的豐富度 Using a Specialized Web Corpus to Enrich the Lexical Items and Collocations of a Basketball English Teaching Material 指導教授:陳浩然 博士 Advisor:Dr. I Abstract In recent decades, ESP (English for Specific Purpose) has received more and more attention in TESOL. ESP teaching materials such as Coxhead‟s Academic Word List and Ward‟s Engineering Word List have contributed a lot to both pedagogy and research. However, few studies have been done on sports English. For basketball, NBA (National Basketball Association) is the most famous and popular league in the basketball filed in the world. • No. 13 Ohio State Defeats Michigan State 79-62 Behind 20-Point, 8-Rebound Performance by E.J. Liddell
No. 13 Ohio State Defeats Michigan State 79-62 Behind 20-Point, 8-Rebound Performance By E.J. Liddell The No. 13 Ohio State men’s basketball team defeated Michigan State 79-62 at Value City Arena on Jan. 31. Sophomore forward E.J. Liddell led the way for the Buckeyes (14-4, 8-4) with 20 points and eight rebounds in the 17-point victory over the Spartans (8-6, 2-6). He also had two blocks and two steals. Despite three-pointers from Liddell and junior wing Justin Ahrens in the opening two minutes, Ohio State trailed the Spartans 7-6 through the opening 3:20. Liddell gave the Buckeyes a 9-7 lead by converting an and-one with 16:40 until halftime, and they did not squander that advantage. A mid-range jumper from Liddell and a smooth right-handed hook by senior forward Kyle Young pushed the lead to 13-7 five minutes into the contest. “Our plan was to come out, set the rules early, be the more aggressive team, tougher team,” Young said. “And I think we were able to do that offensively and defensively early on, which helped carry us throughout the rest of the game.” Michigan State cut the deficit to four points twice after the first five minutes, but Ohio State controlled the first half. The Buckeyes took their largest lead at 42-28 on a triple by Ahrens with 1:28 until intermission. After committing just one first-half turnover, Ohio State gave the ball away three times in the first four minutes of the second half.

  • TRIUMPH in the STEEL FORUM Keystones Reach 40 Wins; Earn First Eastern Conference Playoff Bid
TRIUMPH IN THE STEEL FORUM Keystones reach 40 wins; earn first Eastern Conference playoff bid PITTSBURGH - Recalling times of only a year ago, the rough-headed Pittsburgh Keystones definitely did not look like a team of playoff caliber. This was even the case after one quarter of this season had passed by. But, flash back to 2013 - GM Mark Quintaux (horse) and head coach Anton Schumacher (lynx) were dealing with a rather destructive media presence after the send off of Crystal Davis to their biggest opponents, the Williamsburg Minutemen. However, with a casual demeanor and a reassuring smile, the newly-hired manager let us know that, “... everything I’ve done for this team has been with one goal in mind. To take Pittsburgh to the playoffs and beyond. I believe the team we have now has what it takes. The Keystones are a force to be reckoned with, and our opponents ignore us at their own peril.” And now that dream is a reality. With Pittsburgh’s 42nd win on March 19th, the Keystones clinched a playoff berth. Overwhelmingly, and undeniably, they are the best team in their division. Give the props to R andy Catcher and Lance Freewell - two players who are at the top of their game, leading the FBA in assists and 5th in points scored per game, respectively. Throw in the contributions of Terrence Tolliver and rookie Shirley Takamoto, and it’s being considered “the perfect timing” for this franchise. The Keystones will have to face Albany and Plymouth in the playoff ring, but they have the tools needed - and the momentum - to carry this one through and surprise us all..
