TRIUMPH in the STEEL FORUM Keystones Reach 40 Wins; Earn First Eastern Conference Playoff Bid TRIUMPH IN THE STEEL FORUM Keystones reach 40 wins; earn first Eastern Conference playoff bid PITTSBURGH - Recalling times of only a year ago, the rough-headed Pittsburgh Keystones definitely did not look like a team of playoff caliber. This was even the case after one quarter of this season had passed by. But, flash back to 2013 - GM Mark Quintaux (horse) and head coach Anton Schumacher (lynx) were dealing with a rather destructive media presence after the send off of Crystal Davis to their biggest opponents, the Williamsburg Minutemen. However, with a casual demeanor and a reassuring smile, the newly-hired manager let us know that, “... everything I’ve done for this team has been with one goal in mind. To take Pittsburgh to the playoffs and beyond. I believe the team we have now has what it takes. The Keystones are a force to be reckoned with, and our opponents ignore us at their own peril.” And now that dream is a reality. With Pittsburgh’s 42nd win on March 19th, the Keystones clinched a playoff berth. Overwhelmingly, and undeniably, they are the best team in their division. Give the props to R andy Catcher and Lance Freewell - two players who are at the top of their game, leading the FBA in assists and 5th in points scored per game, respectively. Throw in the contributions of Terrence Tolliver and rookie Shirley Takamoto, and it’s being considered “the perfect timing” for this franchise. The Keystones will have to face Albany and Plymouth in the playoff ring, but they have the tools needed - and the momentum - to carry this one through and surprise us all... Also, have we forgotten to mention that an amphibian is trouncing the FBA right now? Put that in your coffee and sip on it... It was a late night Saturday and Baltasar’s face was lit by the dim blue glow from the computer screen. The past few weeks had been a flurry. Public relations, promotions, sponsorships, talking to the team owner, Adam Tevela of the Newark Pride. manager, coach, drills and practice, flying across the (Character belongs to ~JWolfman) continent... he couldn’t do this alone for much longer. He started by quietly looking up agents, and contacting a few agencies, testing the waters. Despite his efforts, word caught on that he was in the market looking for representation. And soon they were the ones contacting him by the dozen. His inbox, voicemail, even mailbox could be trusted to have at least one letter or company offering a contract. In a way, it felt damn good. All these people vying for his attention, all of them eager to have him as a client, he hadn’t made quite the amount of waves some other players had during his rookie season but it felt… encouraging, to know his talent was recognized. At least, he hoped this was the case. Truthfully he, felt utterly overwhelmed and unprepared. What to do? Who to choose? Back home it had always been himself and his father managing the finances, but the FBA was a behemoth the giant tortoise could not Travis Buckner of the Texas Lone Stars. tackle on his own. How could he know which ones were (Character belongs to ~Tazel) making good offers? Which ones were just lying through their teeth, suckering him into a less than ideal contract… what the heck even WAS an ideal contract? And then one day he got a call. He had long since stopped wondering how these people managed to get a hold of his phone number. When he answered, a crisp, clear, female voice spoke: “Mr. Baltasar Torrealba y Toboso?” It was rare enough to hear his own name nowadays. Everyone usually opting for “T-Balt” instead. So hearing his full name, and properly pronounced, was enough to make him not hang up the moment she mentioned she worked for a sports agent, who was on the line and wanted to speak with him. Ren Inoue ~Shenanigan (Character “Could he not just call me himself?” belongs to ~Dcrest13) “Mr. LaTour wanted to make sure you would be available, he’s waiting on the line. One moment please.” Baltasar barely had time to ponder the name before the line picked up again, and Sedrick LaTour’s unctuous voice rang out from the little speaker. “Ah, Mr Torrealba y Toboso. Or do you prefer Baltasar?” “Torrealba is fine, Mr… LaTour” “Torrealba it is! Glad to finally get a hold of you, my Elijah Sommers, 2015 draft candidate friend. How’s Huntsville been treating you? Adjusting to entry. Look at DAT TONGUE. ~Pac your new life in the pro sports world?” (Character belongs to ~Haloke) “I have survived.” “Excellent!” LaTour responded. The word on its way out of his mouth before T-Balt had even finished talking. “And you’ve been having quite the freshman season,” he said with a whistle. “All-star rookie, number three in rebounds, third in blocks, playing on the number one team in the league. Just… my GOODNESS. Talk about making a big splash, am I right? And no, that’s not a Events in Tremaine Quentin’s life. tortoise joke. But there’s one thing… I just… maybe you ~Pac (Character belongs to ~BetsieT) can help me with this one, my monolithic amigo.” “...yes?” “How on EARTH is it that you’ve made it thus far without a decent agent? Or were you just waiting for me to call?” he laughed. “Should I have been?” More laughter from the coati. “I’d say if it wasn’t intentional then you are damn lucky I got to you before you made the biggest mistake of your young career.” “And what would that be?” “Your name is being mispronounced by a whole lot of Hedvin Eklund - another candidate in folks looking to get you in their stable, big guy. A player our future! ~WyldElyn of your calibre, on the team you’re on, unrepresented? Jeez, Torrealba, you’re like seeing a Rolex in one of those claw machines. But, and this is a BIG butt, that means you’re gonna need to make sure you get the right agent.” “And I assume you mean yourself?” “Now you’re getting it!” the slick-talking agent said, a little too enthusiastically. “See, there are a lot of agents out there. I mean just a god-awful number of them, and most of those yahoos wouldn’t know a trade clause from Santa Claus. Now I’ve been in this game a while, and I know how to get a player the best possible contract, bar none. And, my friend, a player like you? Whew, the sky’s Efron (Ren Inoue’s beau) waiting for a the limit.” cup of coffee ~Shenanigan “This is a very big decision. I would have to give this some th-” “I’m gonna have my secretary pass you my personal number, okay? This is just a work phone, don’t call here, you’ll get her again and we’ll end up playing phone tag. I’ll also have her give you my website address, just in case you were curious to see the kind of athletes that Sedrick LaTour represents. I only represent the best, Mr Travis Buckner and Jeff Hunter in Torrealba, and I only deliver the best. I could sit here and “The Deal” - and you bet something’s talk your ear off for another hour, but I’m sure you have going down! ~Pac (characters belong plenty to do yourself and I’d rather let my work stand on to ~Tazel and ~StevieMaxwell) its own.” And before Baltasar could fit in another word, the call was passed onto LaTour’s secretary who gave him a number and website, politely bade him a good day and hung up. The tortoise stared at the quickly scrawled note on in his huge hand. Who the hell was Sedrick LaTour? The tortoise had never heard of him, but the man talked big.

The goal of this series is to demonstrate how philosophical inquiry has been reinvigorated by increased scholarly interest in the inter- section of popular culture and philosophy, as well as to explore through philosophical analysis beloved modes of entertainment, such as movies, TV shows, and music. Philosophical concepts will be made accessible to the general reader through examples in popular culture. This series seeks to publish both established and emerging scholars who will engage a major area of popular culture for philosophical interpretation and exam- ine the philosophical underpinnings of its themes. Eschewing ephemeral trends of philosophical and cultural theory, authors will establish and elaborate on connections between traditional philosophical ideas from important thinkers and the ever-expanding world of popular culture. Tennessee 93 South Carolina 73 Feb. 17, 2021 | Thompson-Boling Arena | Knoxville, Tenn. Tennessee Head Coach Rick Barnes On what he thought of VJ and Fulky’s performance tonight: “Again, the last couple of days of practice we were short of guys, and we just individually kept talking to guys that they have to get themselves involved, because we can only do so much from a coaching staff standpoint. Our offense since Fulky has been here hasn’t changed a whole lot, and if it had changed some, it’s because we have had to take advantage of some other talent. Otherwise, his position really hasn’t changed that much. We said they’re going to have to do it. I thought he did the best job of running tonight that he’s done all year. He really ran the floor hard and again I think he’s got to play quicker in the post, and he is wanting to catch it and spin and do this and that. He’s not going to get time to do that, unless he does his work early. With VJ, the last two days Santi wasn’t able to practice, so those three guys worked together, and I thought it probably helped VJ as much as any the last two days playing the point, and understanding what we want to do, and I thought he did a really good job with it.” On what the last few days were like with COVID circumstances: “Well, we knew regardless if the test results came back, we had to play by rule.

  • 使用專業語料庫增加籃球英語教材詞彙及搭配詞的豐富度 Using a Specialized Web Corpus to Enrich the Lexical Items and Collocations of a Basketball English Teaching Material
國立臺灣師範大學英語學系 碩士論文 Master‟s Thesis Graduate Institute of English National Taiwan Normal University 使用專業語料庫增加籃球英語教材詞彙及搭配詞的豐富度 Using a Specialized Web Corpus to Enrich the Lexical Items and Collocations of a Basketball English Teaching Material 指導教授:陳浩然 博士 Advisor:Dr. I Abstract In recent decades, ESP (English for Specific Purpose) has received more and more attention in TESOL. ESP teaching materials such as Coxhead‟s Academic Word List and Ward‟s Engineering Word List have contributed a lot to both pedagogy and research. However, few studies have been done on sports English. For basketball, NBA (National Basketball Association) is the most famous and popular league in the basketball filed in the world. Basketball - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basketball Basketball From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Basketball is a sport played by two teams of five players on a rectangular court. The objective is to shoot a ball through a Basketball hoop 18 inches (46 cm) in diameter and 10 feet (3.048 m) high mounted to a backboard at each end. Basketball is one of the world's most popular and widely viewed sports.[1] A team can score a field goal by shooting the ball through the basket during regular play. A field goal scores three points for the shooting team if the player shoots from behind the three-point line, and two points if shot from in front of the line. A team can also score via free throws, which are worth one point, after the other team was assessed with certain fouls. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins, but additional time (overtime) is issued when the score is tied at the end of regulation. The ball can be advanced on the court by bouncing it while walking or running or throwing it to a teammate. It is a violation to lift or drag one's pivot foot without dribbling the ball, to carry it, or to hold the ball with both hands then resume dribbling. Michael Jordan goes for a slam dunk at the old Boston Garden As well as many techniques for shooting, passing, dribbling Highest FIBA and rebounding, basketball teams generally have player governing body positions and offensive and defensive structures (player positioning).
