In the United States historical divides driven by race and geography have created an inequitable society. We are working with our partners at Nike to develop a network of young leaders across the United States who come together across community divides and become catalysts in building a more peaceful and equitable society. Brooklyn Our journey to create a diverse network of youth leaders across our borough began in Brownsville, a neighborhood with so much potential that nonetheless ranks first in violent crime in Brooklyn. Many Brownsville youth do not feel comfortable in neighboring housing developments. Through PeacePlayers, young people in Brownsville and surrounding neighborhoods are accessing safe spaces where they can be themselves, in addition to quality basketball programming, and opportunities to come together to build relationships and become leaders and advocates for their community. Baltimore In Baltimore, the impact of decades of systemic inequity is clear as day. Historic policies such as redlining have fed modern day equivalents, such as severely inequitable municipal investments in communities of color. PeacePlayers Baltimore engages youth within these communities in different quadrants of the city with a goal of creating youth-led strategies to bridge societal divides and be a catalyst for institutional and structural change within the city. Chicago PeacePlayers Chicago engages youth in the Roseland/Pullman community, located on the far south side of Chicago. A once very thriving community, it now faces many challenges, such as gun violence, bullying, poverty, school and gang violence, lack of adult supervision, racial disparities in healthcare and education, unsafe housing, and a lack of jobs and resources for young people. These disparities have fueled cultural divides among youth living in this community. PeacePlayers Chicago’s intentional programming focuses on positive youth development through the fostering of healthy relationships and by providing the support needed for youth to discover their inner leader. Detroit The culturally diverse Detroit metro area is home to many Arab, Latino and Bengali families, in addition to significant African American and white populations. However, segregation, lack of interaction between groups and fear across cultural and geographic divides prevents the city and many of its residents from thriving. PeacePlayers Detroit currently operates in the predominantly African American communities of Cody Rouge and Brightmoor, as well as the primarily Latino community of Southwest Detroit, with the goal of reaching all seven of the city community districts by 2024. Los Angeles PeacePlayers Los Angeles serves the community of Watts in South Central Los Angeles, home to four of Los Angeles’ most dangerous housing projects. While our youth participants in the Watts community are not particularly gang affiliated, they are bound by gang territory lines and live their lives navigating the conflict that encompasses their neighborhood. PeacePlayers Los Angeles aims to bridge divides in Los Angeles by creating safe spaces through the game of basketball for young people to build relationships and become leaders and advocates for their community. PeacePlayers Los Angeles currently delivers Peace League programming to Markham Middle School, working with over 300 6th and 7th graders a year. Los Angeles also launched its inaugural Jr. LDP program with 15 hand selected youth who have proven to be positive youth ambassadors and change agents within their community. These youth go through a seven- week program that meets virtually three times a week to focus on leadership development, team building as well as basketball skill sessions. 02 03 2020 UNITED STATES STORYBOOK 2020 UNITED STATES STORYBOOK are dealing with similar struggles. “Me and Sally make sure we talk about it with our students, because racism is real. • Barb Caruso's 1997 Baccalaureate Address
The Words We Wear[1]: Talking and Walking A Baccalaureate Address For the Graduating Class of Earlham College[2] May 11, 1997 Barbara Ann Caruso Good Morning. When I was growing up my father, someone I suppose we would call a man of few words, would remark about our neighbor Charlie: "That guy likes to hear the sound of his own voice." And it was true, It seemed like whenever we saw Charlie, over the lawn mower, at a neighborhood picnic, at a community meeting, he would be holding forth. Folks around him would seem to be listening, but soon their toes would tap, their eyes would wander and bit by bit they would edge away. And Charlie just kept talking. Recently I have been thinking a lot about Charlie. Since I came to Earlham in 1978, I have had many opportunities to talk to large gatherings. Just this past fall I talked my way through three, long, Charles Lectures on the subjects of poetry, talking about trees, and evil deeds. Those lectures became the local cable access station's video filler. So all year long, surfing the channels could result in encountering Caruso, framed by syndicated Dragnet on one station, and The Partridge Family on another. For months Richmond, Indiana echoed, I'm told, with the sound of my voice. I am grateful to live in Ohio. And now I stand here on graduation day, for the third time in the nineteen years I have been at Earlham. Each time I have been asked to speak I have felt somewhat overwhelmed.

Tennessee 93 South Carolina 73 Feb. 17, 2021 | Thompson-Boling Arena | Knoxville, Tenn. Tennessee Head Coach Rick Barnes On what he thought of VJ and Fulky’s performance tonight: “Again, the last couple of days of practice we were short of guys, and we just individually kept talking to guys that they have to get themselves involved, because we can only do so much from a coaching staff standpoint. Our offense since Fulky has been here hasn’t changed a whole lot, and if it had changed some, it’s because we have had to take advantage of some other talent. Otherwise, his position really hasn’t changed that much. We said they’re going to have to do it. I thought he did the best job of running tonight that he’s done all year. He really ran the floor hard and again I think he’s got to play quicker in the post, and he is wanting to catch it and spin and do this and that. He’s not going to get time to do that, unless he does his work early. With VJ, the last two days Santi wasn’t able to practice, so those three guys worked together, and I thought it probably helped VJ as much as any the last two days playing the point, and understanding what we want to do, and I thought he did a really good job with it.” On what the last few days were like with COVID circumstances: “Well, we knew regardless if the test results came back, we had to play by rule.

國立臺灣師範大學英語學系 碩士論文 Master‟s Thesis Graduate Institute of English National Taiwan Normal University 使用專業語料庫增加籃球英語教材詞彙及搭配詞的豐富度 Using a Specialized Web Corpus to Enrich the Lexical Items and Collocations of a Basketball English Teaching Material 指導教授:陳浩然 博士 Advisor:Dr. I Abstract In recent decades, ESP (English for Specific Purpose) has received more and more attention in TESOL. ESP teaching materials such as Coxhead‟s Academic Word List and Ward‟s Engineering Word List have contributed a lot to both pedagogy and research. However, few studies have been done on sports English. For basketball, NBA (National Basketball Association) is the most famous and popular league in the basketball filed in the world. • TRIUMPH in the STEEL FORUM Keystones Reach 40 Wins; Earn First Eastern Conference Playoff Bid
TRIUMPH IN THE STEEL FORUM Keystones reach 40 wins; earn first Eastern Conference playoff bid PITTSBURGH - Recalling times of only a year ago, the rough-headed Pittsburgh Keystones definitely did not look like a team of playoff caliber. This was even the case after one quarter of this season had passed by. But, flash back to 2013 - GM Mark Quintaux (horse) and head coach Anton Schumacher (lynx) were dealing with a rather destructive media presence after the send off of Crystal Davis to their biggest opponents, the Williamsburg Minutemen. However, with a casual demeanor and a reassuring smile, the newly-hired manager let us know that, “... everything I’ve done for this team has been with one goal in mind. To take Pittsburgh to the playoffs and beyond. I believe the team we have now has what it takes. The Keystones are a force to be reckoned with, and our opponents ignore us at their own peril.” And now that dream is a reality. With Pittsburgh’s 42nd win on March 19th, the Keystones clinched a playoff berth. Overwhelmingly, and undeniably, they are the best team in their division. Give the props to R andy Catcher and Lance Freewell - two players who are at the top of their game, leading the FBA in assists and 5th in points scored per game, respectively. Throw in the contributions of Terrence Tolliver and rookie Shirley Takamoto, and it’s being considered “the perfect timing” for this franchise. The Keystones will have to face Albany and Plymouth in the playoff ring, but they have the tools needed - and the momentum - to carry this one through and surprise us all..
