During this period, a number of 3on3 tournaments will be held, during which the new rules and a unified digital competition management system will be put to the test. These tests are intended to result in a format of play that delivers on the promise to make basketball accessible to the largest possible number of players, taking into account both top level competition, small scale tournaments and simple pick-up games. The new test rules include three major changes to those played at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games: the shot clock is raised from 10 to 12 seconds shots from beyond the arc count for two (2) points, shots from inside for one (1) point the winning score limit before end of regular time is brought down to 21 Click here for the latest version of the 3on3 rules and here for a table outlining the regulation changes and the lighter versions of 3on3 basketball or visit fiba.com/3on3. The FIBA Central Board gave its approval for the launch on 13 March 2011 in Lyon. FIBA member federations and potential tournament organisers have been informed of this test period, and have been encouraged to stage 3on3 tournaments throughout the summer. In the autumn, FIBA will evaluate feedback from all stakeholders, and use the data to finalise the roadmap for the development of the discipline, which has Olympic ambitions. 2012 will then see the official launch of 3on3 on a worldwide basis, with a full pyramid of tournaments being rolled out, ranging from informal competitions to international championships, to a possible world pro tour. 3on3 is set to make a second Youth Olympic Games appearance in Nanjing in 2014. FIBA Secretary General and IOC Member Patrick Baumann said: “We are excited to get this project launched with a crucial test phase. 3on3 has an extraordinarily large number of non-licensed players. We want this test phase to help us give everyone the structures and rules to play the game and we are confident that we are on the right track.” About FIBA and 3on3 basketball FIBA (www.fiba.com) – the world governing body for basketball – is an independent association formed by 213 National Basketball Federations throughout the world. FIBA is recognised as the sole competent authority in basketball by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Visit facebook.com/fiba and twitter.com/fiba or youtube.com/fibaworld for further information. 3on3 basketball is inspired by several forms of streetball played worldwide. This exciting format, sanctioned by FIBA, sees two teams of three players face off on a standard half-court, with rules designed to encourage players to showcase their skills and athleticism. It was played successfully for the first time in international competition at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Singapore. .

BASKE TBALL AND PHILOSOPHY The Philosophy of Popular Culture The books published in the Philosophy of Popular Culture series will il- luminate and explore philosophical themes and ideas that occur in popu- lar culture. The goal of this series is to demonstrate how philosophical inquiry has been reinvigorated by increased scholarly interest in the inter- section of popular culture and philosophy, as well as to explore through philosophical analysis beloved modes of entertainment, such as movies, TV shows, and music. Philosophical concepts will be made accessible to the general reader through examples in popular culture. This series seeks to publish both established and emerging scholars who will engage a major area of popular culture for philosophical interpretation and exam- ine the philosophical underpinnings of its themes. Eschewing ephemeral trends of philosophical and cultural theory, authors will establish and elaborate on connections between traditional philosophical ideas from important thinkers and the ever-expanding world of popular culture. • TRIUMPH in the STEEL FORUM Keystones Reach 40 Wins; Earn First Eastern Conference Playoff Bid
TRIUMPH IN THE STEEL FORUM Keystones reach 40 wins; earn first Eastern Conference playoff bid PITTSBURGH - Recalling times of only a year ago, the rough-headed Pittsburgh Keystones definitely did not look like a team of playoff caliber. This was even the case after one quarter of this season had passed by. But, flash back to 2013 - GM Mark Quintaux (horse) and head coach Anton Schumacher (lynx) were dealing with a rather destructive media presence after the send off of Crystal Davis to their biggest opponents, the Williamsburg Minutemen. However, with a casual demeanor and a reassuring smile, the newly-hired manager let us know that, “... everything I’ve done for this team has been with one goal in mind. To take Pittsburgh to the playoffs and beyond. I believe the team we have now has what it takes. The Keystones are a force to be reckoned with, and our opponents ignore us at their own peril.” And now that dream is a reality. With Pittsburgh’s 42nd win on March 19th, the Keystones clinched a playoff berth. Overwhelmingly, and undeniably, they are the best team in their division. Give the props to R andy Catcher and Lance Freewell - two players who are at the top of their game, leading the FBA in assists and 5th in points scored per game, respectively. Throw in the contributions of Terrence Tolliver and rookie Shirley Takamoto, and it’s being considered “the perfect timing” for this franchise. The Keystones will have to face Albany and Plymouth in the playoff ring, but they have the tools needed - and the momentum - to carry this one through and surprise us all..

  • Basketball - Wikipedia, the Free Encyclopedia
Basketball - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basketball Basketball From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Basketball is a sport played by two teams of five players on a rectangular court. The objective is to shoot a ball through a Basketball hoop 18 inches (46 cm) in diameter and 10 feet (3.048 m) high mounted to a backboard at each end. Basketball is one of the world's most popular and widely viewed sports.[1] A team can score a field goal by shooting the ball through the basket during regular play. A field goal scores three points for the shooting team if the player shoots from behind the three-point line, and two points if shot from in front of the line. A team can also score via free throws, which are worth one point, after the other team was assessed with certain fouls. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins, but additional time (overtime) is issued when the score is tied at the end of regulation. The ball can be advanced on the court by bouncing it while walking or running or throwing it to a teammate. It is a violation to lift or drag one's pivot foot without dribbling the ball, to carry it, or to hold the ball with both hands then resume dribbling. Michael Jordan goes for a slam dunk at the old Boston Garden As well as many techniques for shooting, passing, dribbling Highest FIBA and rebounding, basketball teams generally have player governing body positions and offensive and defensive structures (player positioning).

  • Neenah Streetball Tournament Rules
Neenah StreetBall Tournament Rules The following rules are intended to ensure fair play for all participants. StreetBall promotes sportsmanship as a crucial aspect of the tournament. Observance of the rules, along with sportsmanship and respect for opposing team members and officials helps ensure a safe and enjoyable weekend for everyone. NFHS Basketball Rules will be followed in determining violations and fouls, except for changes below. Also, note that 3- seconds in the lane and 5-second closely guarded rules will not apply as court size is limited in 3-on-3. SPORTSMANSHIP Good sportsmanship is expected from all participants and spectators at StreetBall. Either the team captain or designated parent (if applicable) is responsible to aid in controlling the conduct of teammates and team followers and will act as the sole team spokesperson at all times. Poor sportsmanship could result in the assessing of penalties against a team in either the Technical or Flagrant foul categories (see Fouls). Failure to comply with the sportsmanship standards of StreetBall, with such acts as fighting, taunting, intimidating, excessive arguing, or verbally attacking a player, spectator, or tournament official can lead to the immediate removal of the offending player, team, or spectator from the tournament. Removal from the tournament will, at a minimum, result in the suspension from the next year’s StreetBall event. No alcoholic beverages will be allowed on-site. Drunken or disorderly players will not be allowed to play. NUMBER OF PLAYERS Teams may consist of either three (3) or four (4) players that are registered by the tournament entry deadline.
