  • Midnight Moonshine Rendezvous by Dr
Midnight Moonshine Rendezvous by Dr. Stony Merriman Story by Luke Alexander Denny Chapter 1 Personal History Luke Alexander Denny, the legendary Middles Tennessee moonshine runner opened his life by saying, “I was born near Buffalo Valley in Putnam County, Tennessee, November 20 or 21,1917. I have always considered November 21 as my birthday. In fact, that date is on my discharge certificate from the U.S. Army. My birth certificate, however, states I arrived at 5 p.m., on the 20th which was on a cold Tuesday. The temperature was around 10 degrees below zero, according to my Uncle Floyd Huddleston, who I’m told had a photographic memory,” Denny explained. “My Great Uncle Jessie Huddleston told me many times it was the coldest winter he had ever experienced. According to my father Hugh Toi Denny, the weather turned cold around November 3. It started snowing , but the temperature was so low there wasn’t much accumulation. All that fell remained on the ground. It snowed off and on all of November, and up through December. Several of the old timers from Rock Spring (the community where I was born) said the snow didn’t melt until sometime in early spring. In the far reaches on North Hill some snow could be seen as late as April 10. Mr. Earl McCallum, also told me the Tennessee River froze over throughout southern Tennessee and northern Alabama. Earl lived in Savannah, Tennessee, at the time. “As I said, my dad was Hugh Toi Denny. Dad was born in 1882. He was a 35- year-old farmer when I was born.

Scotch Whisky has been made for more than 500 years and uses just a few natural raw materials - water, cereals and yeast. Scotland is home to over 130 malt and grain distilleries, making it the greatest MAP OF concentration of whisky producers in the world. Many of the Scotch Whisky distilleries featured on this map bottle some of their production for sale as Single Malt (i.e. the product of one distillery) or Single Grain Whisky. HIGHLAND MALT The Highland region is geographically the largest Scotch Whisky SCOTCH producing region. The rugged landscape, changeable climate and, in The majority of Scotch Whisky is consumed as Blended Scotch Whisky. This means as some cases, coastal locations are reflected in the character of its many as 60 of the different Single Malt and Single Grain Whiskies are blended whiskies, which embrace wide variations. As a group, Highland whiskies are rounded, robust and dry in character together, ensuring that the individual Scotch Whiskies harmonise with one another with a hint of smokiness/peatiness. Those near the sea carry a salty WHISKY and the quality and flavour of each individual blend remains consistent down the tang; in the far north the whiskies are notably heathery and slightly spicy in character; while in the more sheltered east and middle of the DISTILLERIES years. region, the whiskies have a more fruity character.

  • The Whiskey Machine: Nanofactory-Based Replication of Fine Spirits and Other Alcohol-Based Beverages
The Whiskey Machine: Nanofactory-Based Replication of Fine Spirits and Other Alcohol-Based Beverages © 2016 Robert A. Freitas Jr. All Rights Reserved. Abstract. Specialized nanofactories will be able to manufacture specific products or classes of products very efficiently and inexpensively. This paper is the first serious scaling study of a nanofactory designed for the manufacture of a specific food product, in this case high-value-per- liter alcoholic beverages. The analysis indicates that a 6-kg desktop appliance called the Fine Spirits Synthesizer, aka. the “Whiskey Machine,” consuming 300 W of power for all atomically precise mechanosynthesis operations, along with a commercially available 59-kg 900 W cryogenic refrigerator, could produce one 750 ml bottle per hour of any fine spirit beverage for which the molecular recipe is precisely known at a manufacturing cost of about $0.36 per bottle, assuming no reduction in the current $0.07/kWh cost for industrial electricity. The appliance’s carbon footprint is a minuscule 0.3 gm CO2 emitted per bottle, more than 1000 times smaller than the 460 gm CO2 per bottle carbon footprint of conventional distillery operations today. The same desktop appliance can intake a tiny physical sample of any fine spirit beverage and produce a complete molecular recipe for that product in ~17 minutes of run time, consuming <25 W of power, at negligible additional cost. • Trade Marks Inter Partes Decision O/327/19
O-327-19 TRADE MARKS ACT 1994 IN THE MATTER OF APPLICATION NO. 3281046 BY EVANS GROUP HOLDING COMPANY LIMITED TO REGISTER THE TRADE MARK: Lord Nelson FOR GOODS AND SERVICES IN CLASSES 32 and 33 AND IN THE MATTER OF OPPOSITION TO ITS REGISTRATION UNDER NO. 412571 BY HEAVEN HILL DISTILLERIES, INC. Background and pleadings 1) On 8 January 2018 Clare Joanne Evans applied to register the following trade mark for goods and services in Classes 32 and 33: Lord Nelson The application was published for opposition purposes on 2 February 2018. During the course of these proceedings an amendment to the specification in Class 32 was accepted, so that the specification of the opposed mark in Classes 32 and 33 now stands as shown in the Annex to this decision. 2) The application is opposed by Heaven Hill Distilleries, Inc. (“the Opponent”). The opposition, which is directed against all the goods applied for, is based upon section 5(2)(b) of the Trade Marks Act 1994 (“the Act”), for the purposes of which the Opponent relies upon the following EU trade mark registrations for the following respective marks and goods: EU 16756652 ADMIRAL NELSON’S Class 33: Spirits; rum. EU 14329254 2 Class 33: Spirits; rum. 3) EU 16756652 was filed on 22 May 2017 and registered on 5 September 2017. EU 14329254 was filed on 02 July 2015 and registered on 15 October 2015. The significance of these respective dates is that (1) both the Opponent’s marks constitute earlier marks in accordance with section 6 of the Act, and (2) they are not subject to the proof of use conditions contained in section 6A of the Act, their respective registration procedures having been completed less than five years before the publication of the Applicant’s mark.

  • Soup at the Distinguished Table in Mexico City, 1830-1920
SOUP AT THE DISTINGUISHED TABLE IN MEXICO CITY, 1830-1920 Nanosh Lucas A Thesis Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF ARTS May 2017 Committee: Amílcar Challú, Committee Co-Chair Franciso Cabanillas, Committee Co-Chair Amy Robinson Timothy Messer-Kruse © 2017 Nanosh Jacob Isadore Joshua Lucas All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Amílcar Challú, Committee Co-Chair Francisco Cabanillas, Committee Co-Chair This thesis uses soup discourse as a vehicle to explore dimensions of class and hierarchies of taste in Mexican cookbooks and newspapers from 1830-1920. It contrasts soups with classic European roots, such as sopa de pan (bread soup), with New World soups, such as sopa de tortilla (tortilla soup) and chilaquiles (toasted tortillas in a soupy sauce made from chiles). I adopt a multi-disciplinary approach, combining quantitative methods in the digital humanities with qualitative techniques in history and literature. To produce this analysis, I draw from Pierre Bourdieu’s work on distinction and social capital, Max Weber’s ideas about modernization and rationalization, and Charles Tilly’s notions of categorical inequality. Results demonstrate that soup plays a part in a complex drama of inclusion and exclusion as people socially construct themselves in print and culinary practice. Elites attempted to define respectable soups by what ingredients they used, and how they prepared, served, and consumed soup. Yet, at the same time, certain soups seemed to defy hierarchical categorization, and that is where this story begins. iv To Lisa and Isadora Lucas. Thank you for your sacrifices.
