Beard' ABSTRACT This article explores a developing technology-the creation of digi- tal replicas of individuals, both living and dead, as well as the creation of totally imaginary humans. The article examines the various laws, includ- ing copyright, sui generis, right of publicity and trademark, that may be employed to prevent the creation, duplication and exploitation of digital replicas of individuals as well as to prevent unauthorized alteration of ex- isting images of a person. With respect to totally imaginary digital hu- mans, the article addresses the issue of whether such virtual humans should be treated like real humans or simply as highly sophisticated forms of animated cartoon characters. Computers are already more capable than humans at some tasks,1 but are not regarded as truly intelligent or able to think. Yet since the early days of computing, humans have contemplated the possibility of intelligent machines—those which reach some level of sentience.2 Intelligent machines could result from highly active and rapidly advancing fields of research, such as attempts to emulate the human brain, or to develop generalized artificial intelligence (AGI). Infinite rotation Abstract The goal of this project was to design and manufacture robotic joints that are inexpensive and capable of being used in a variety of applications. In order to maximize the number of applications in which our design could be utilized, research was done on optimal strength, size, communications, modularity, and price. This project includes the research and design development necessary to engineer such a joint, including part selection, motor control, manufacturing processes, and strength analysis. Two Joints were constructed and tested: a rotator joint and a elbow-joint. The joints performed well under testing conditions and overall prices were kept low. The event was organized by Yorick Wilks, Senior Research Fellow for the Oxford Internet Institute (OII)3, on behalf of the e-Horizons Institute4 and in association with the EU Integrated Project COMPANIONS. COMPANIONS is studying conversational software-based artificial agents that will get to know their owners over a substantial period. These could be developed to advise, comfort and carry out a wide range of functions to support diverse personal and social needs, such as to be ‘artificial companions’ for the elderly, helping their owners to learn, or assisting to sustain their owners’ fitness and health. The invited forum participants, including computer and social scientists, also discussed a range of related developments that use advanced artificial intelligence and human– computer interaction approaches. They examined key issues in building artificial companions, emphasizing their social, personal, emotional and ethical implications. This paper summarizes the main issues raised. -

Green‡‡ Takashi Ikegami§§ Abstract This article lists fourteen open problems in Kunihiko Kaneko artificial life, each of which is a grand challenge requiring a Thomas S. Ray††† major advance on a fundamental issue for its solution. Each problem is briefly explained, and, where deemed helpful, some promising paths to its solution are indicated. They proved to be an extraordinarily effective guideline for mathematical research in the following century. Based on a substantial body of existing mathematical theory, the challenges were both precisely formulated and positioned so that a significant body of missing theory needed to be developed to achieve their solution, thereby enriching mathematics as a whole. In contrast with mathematics, artificial life is quite young and essentially interdis- ciplinary. The phrase “artificial life” was coined by C. Langton [11], who envisaged an investigation of life as it is in the context of life as it could be. Although artificial life is fundamentally directed towards both the origins of biology and its future, the scope and complexity of its subject require interdisciplinary cooperation and collabo- ration. This broadly based area of study embraces the possibility of discovering lifelike behavior in unfamiliar settings and creating new and unfamiliar forms of life, and its major aim is to develop a coherent theory of life in all its manifestations, rather than an historically contingent documentation bifurcated by discipline. -

Hacking with God: a Common Programming Language of Robopsychology and Robophilosophy Norbert Bátfai∗ Department of Information Technology University of Debrecen, Hungary September 22, 2020 Abstract This note is a sketch of how the concept of robopsychology and robophi- losophy could be reinterpreted and repositioned in the spirit of the original vocation of psychology and philosophy. The notion of the robopsychology as a fictional science and a fictional occupation was introduced by Asimov in the middle of the last century. The robophilosophy, on the other hand, is only a few years old today. But at this moment, none of these new emerging disciplines focus on the fundamental and overall issues of the development of artificial general intelligence. Instead, they focus only on issues that, although are extremely important, play a complementary role, such as moral or ethical ones, rather than the big questions of life. We try to outline a conception in which the robophilosophy and robopsychology will be able to play a similar leading rule in the progress of artificial intel- ligence than the philosophy and psychology have done in the progress of human intelligence. To facilitate this, we outline the idea of a visual artifi- cial language and interactive theorem prover-based computer application called Prime Convo Assistant. The question to be decided in the future is whether we can develop such an application. And if so, can we build a computer game on it, or even an esport game? It may be an interesting question in order for this game will be able to transform human thinking on the widest possible social scale and will be able to develop a stan- dard mathematical logic-based communication channel between human and machine intelligence. -
