Kokikai

Aikido Kokikai is the most modern of traditional Japanese

About the style Aikido Kokikai is a martial art concerned with effective self-defense techniques and realization of our full potential power in all the activities of daily life. Even as we develop powerful Kokikai technique we strive to increase the strength of both body and mind, discover Kokikai Ki Power through mind-body coordination, and stimulate good health. In this way we create a secure foundation for a strong and successful life. We discover our whole human ability, our full potential power, through self- mastery. Aikido Kokikai focuses on proper technique, not physical strength, and is ideal for both men and women.

About the organization Founder Shuji Maruyama (master of Aikido and direct student of O’Sensei) introduced his Kokikai style of Aikido to Philadelphia students in the late 1960s. Since that time, his teachings have spread to major dojos in 17 states and Australia, Canada, Israel, and , but our region remains the geographical center of the art. Each year, hundreds of students from these schools travel to our area to learn from Shuji Maruyama Sensei and attend summer and winter camp. As a result, students have a special opportunity to practice with fellow Aikidoists from throughout the country. Our area is also home to several of the country's most experienced instructors, including guest instructors Leon Brooks (7th ), Dennis Embert (7th dan), and Bob Wharton (4th dan).
