Kokusai Budoin, IMAF was founded in 1951 amidst the aftermath of World War II, when the Japanese people were aicted by tremendous physical and spiritual losses. The founders, who comprised leading practitioners of judo, kendo, karate-do, aikido and kobudo, sought to establish a means to rebuild the nation utilizing budo, or traditional Japanese martial arts. During the latter half of the 1960s, Kokusai Budoin, IMAF began eorts to promote traditional Japanese martial arts internationally. Japan headquarters representatives of the Judo, Karate-do, Nihon Jujutsu, Aikido, Iaido, and Kobudo divisions rst visited The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, and the UK. During 2013, nearly thirty members from Europe and North America attended seminars in Japan during March and April. While, the annual European seminar is planned during October. It is my heartfelt hope that all practitioners gathered here today will do his or her utmost to ensure a successful outcome to this budo exhibition. Finally, I wish to dedicate the 35th All Japan Budo Exhibition to the exceptional masters who paved the way for all of us, and in particular, to the late Shizuya Sato-sensei, former Kokusai Budoin, IMAF Chief Director of twenty-eight years. Kobudo Demonstration Ryushin Shouchi Ryu Nihon Heiho Daiwa-Do Ryushin Shouchi Ryu Nihon Heiho Daiwa-Do Yasuhisa Tokugawa President Kokusai Budoin, IMAF 35th Exhibition Dedication Ladies and Gentlemen, honored guests, senior members, and friends, welcome to the 35th All Japan Budo Exhibition. This year marks the rst exhibition under the direction of Chief Director Tadanori Nobetsu, and Vice Chief Directors Ikuo Higuchi and Iwao Matsuzaki. This development should be considered in the light of Kokusai Budoin history, which began in 1951when the founders met to dene their vision of the organi- zation and plan the rst budo exhibition, held in 1952. Regarding sports and the 2020 Olympics, both Tokyo and Istanbul are under consideration as possible locations. Alas, in this day and age, the specter of terrorist threat cannot be ignored, particularly in light of events on April 15 2013 in Boston, USA. Indeed, this is a regrettable situation. This year, rather few international participants are on hand to join the Kokusai Budoin, IMAF All Japan Budo Exhibition. However, in the past a signicant number of international chapter members have taken part in the our events, which lends weight to the observation that budo has become a medium where persons can meet and share experiences regardless of nationality or ethnicity. Whereas, in the world today, various factions seek to create and exploit division, however, the study and practice of budo comprises an opportunity to establish unity, camaraderie and understanding among people everywhere. 2013 All Japan Budo Exhibition Exhibition Program 10:30 Opening Ceremony Kobudo Karate-do Iaido Nihon Jujutsu Judo Aikido 17:00 Closing Ceremony 18:00 Reception & Awards Ceremony Karate-do Karate-do Nihon Jujutsu Iaido Judo Iaido Mt.
