I had not meant to belabor any longer some of the habits of square dancers until Doris Gill's plaintive article ...In a previous issue the question of teen-age in- volvement was discussed, and, although I firmly believe that children should not belong to an adult club, I can certainly tolerate them more than some adults who behave as children. We boast that within our ranks we do not have to cope with those "on the sauce" as they say, but isn't it easier to put up with someone not accountable for his actions than with some one who has his wits and yet acts witless? Hemingway said that "Courage is grace under pressure". I think the same definition could be applied to good manners. The rudeness and even some of the fun and games do not belong in this great recreation. I do hope with the emer- gence of new members into clubs, seasoned dancers will remember that they have been there too." from BARBARA & SKIP SAMSOE's M T Squares write-up "Most people realize that the lions share of the credit for a good dance goes to the callers but too few of us make it a point to thank the caller for a job well done. This goes for our round dance leaders too. Callers and round dance leaders are, for the most part, products of their own hard work and practice. They don't just happen. A lot of preparation and learning of new calls and dances must precede each dance in order that one dance is not just a carbon copy of the last. There are no finer callers or round dance leaders anywhere than those of the clubs of the NNJSDA from ELSIE McCUTCHEON....."To our many square and round dancing friends who so graciously took time to phone, visit or send cards....I want to thank you all. Your expressions of friendship at this time were most sincerely appreciated." ******* ******* ******* some clubs change officers in "mid-season" - please note the following: new presidents: GRAND PROWLERS - Ozzy & Amy Lee Mueller 15 White Meadow Road, Rockaway, NJ 07866 T-201-627-5623; & CHIX - Janet & Ben Cavallaro 709 Third Avenue, Lyndhurst, NJ 07071 T- 201-933-7480 RAMAPO SQUARES - Walter & Millie Frauenheim 456 Oregon Street, Paramus, NJ 07652 T- 201-261-7365 2 - SEE SAW SQUARES -- Pearl River, N.Y. 1 & 3 Saturdays St. Stephens Episcopal Church - Erhardt Road' In behalf of See Saw Squares , I would like to say it is an honor to •e accepted into the Northern New Jersey Square Dancers Asso- ciation. We hope to be an asset to you by contributing good dancers and a friendly square dance club to your family. Are performed at the New York Coliseum's,d'ountry Fair. Jules was just great as usual, and just to prove you should "practice what you teach," our caller and his taw (Jules and Martha Pozsar) were asked to dance on television's "To Tell the Truth" along with Al & Bea Brundage with Arnie Kranenberger calling. It should be on some time in March (We don't know the exact date yet). And now let me try to tell you about our Amateur Callers Night Dance. It was so wonderful, I'm afraid I won't do it justice. The guest callers j were Doris Gill, Chet Karlewicz, }red Mathies, Paul Mollica, Wanda Mac- Leod, Ole Thorsen and Stan Laczkowski - and we actually enjoyed dancing to them (I knew I wouldn't say it right). Seriously, they were such good sports and they called very well, too. Jules kept the evening rolling along with the patter calls in between. Our February 5th Fun Dance was memorable; President Stan Laczkowski officially announced our being accepted into the NNJSDA and then he broke out into a theme song which he wrote for the occasion. It was so in- spiring, everyone was clapping and dancing to his tune. Our delegates, Wanda and Andrew MacLeod presided over the pinning of the association's mini-banner to ours and all was official. We were very happy to see guests from 8 clubs. Ed & Les Shearwood were great with the rounds and a good time was had by all. Looking forward to dancing with you. reporters - Hilda Berger 914.354.4350 Happiness is SEE SAW SQUARES being accepted as an Association member Stan & Nancy Laczkowski, presidents of See Saw Squares, proudly displaying their NNJSDA mini banner as our newest delegates, Wanda & Andrew MacLeod beam their approval. ti A relatively young club, beginning early in 1969, the See Saw Squares have grown under the dedicated leader- ship of their caller, Jules Pozsar and his lovely wife, Martha, with one loyal square of followers to a very active c:ta a roster of almost 7 sets, not counting their recent graduates nd if they're not careful, they'll outgrow their hall in Pearl River ' Visiuors are always welcome. Instead of ex- changing gifts we contributed to a fund to aid an unfortunate youngster. The story is so sad that when reading the plea your constant reporter broke down and had to resort to Mr. Dickens' line "When one means to be the most sincere, one only succeeds in being maudlin". Zingy Chip Hendrickson came down and called for us with Claire and Glenn Landis heading a great committee. The Walter Ramsays have headed south for the winter to do some dancing and fishing off the Keyes; Gentle- man Jim Tanner and his Marguarite had to be the most elegant couple around New Years Eire; the Lloyd Goldsberrys have been out of action due to a bad hand operation for Lloyd; Helen & Frank Crabtree deserve con- gratulations for their twenty-five year marriage. We've missed Billie & Ray Frnaklin - why don't you drop a card to Billie and tell her so. Our class will graduate May 5th. My wish for new dancers everywhere is that they always retain their ebullient and also their humble attitudes. Sartre remarked that "Humility is self-knowledge". Why don't we all think about that? My! My! I've had the quotes today. So it is only fitting that an' erstwhile Brooklynite (cheers and whistles) applies another to all graduates. I heard it long ago in the halycon Brooklyn Dodger days when there was always somebody who stood up in the stands and shouted "Alright you guys - get in there and play! Let's win the old ballgame!". reporter - Muriel Osage 201-741-4665 DO-C -ZO Club's - Annual Festival - June 11, 1972 Oakwood School - Poughkeepsie,N.Y.
