By Sarah Hale Summer 2003 will mark the second annual Erickson Super Bull. This all bull rodeo (with its top of the line rid ers, breath-taking rides and fun side .-1 ip shows) is fast becoming one of Star Valley's "hot picks" for summer fun. The event is scheduled to take place Saturday, June 21 at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds. This year the Super Bull, produced wm and sponsored by Erickson Assett P I £ Management, will feature more than 30 bulls. The event is invitation only and more than 80 percent of the bull riders are procard cowboys. Along with bull riding, there will also be muttin' bustin' and a wild cow 'Vn milking contest. A $300 pot will cer tainly draw a crowd for the bull poker W'l contest. ; 4n1 The concession stands will be open and operating for the event too. The Erickson Super Bull will be the first event ever held at the New Lincoln County Fairgrounds. So, saddle up and hit the trail to see the spirit of cowboying at its very best. The area has the distinction of being bordered by three national forests, which provide an abundance of terrain and recreational opportunities. Bridger-Teton Forest The Bridger-Teton National Forest is the second largest forest in the United States, outside ofAlaska. More than 3 million acres in size, the forest lies in west ern Wyoming, near Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks. 5^ This forest comprises the eastern and southern bound aries of Star Valley. The area is noted for its unusual scenery and natural fea tures, large and diverse wildlife populations and habitat for threatened and endangered species. The Bridger-Teton Forest contains the headwaters of four major river basins: the Yellowstone (Missouri/Mississippi basin); Snake (Columbia basin); Green (Colorado basin): and the Bear River {Great Basin). In addition, seven major mountain ranges are found within the forest boundaries. Located within the Bridger-Teton National Forest, the Greys River drainage provides easy access from Star Valley to scenic forests and camping opportunities. The Greys River Road, at Alpine, is the most common entry point into the Greys River and Little Greys River drainages. The area can also be accessed from the south via Smith's Fork Road, near Smoot. By Sarah Hale Alpine's annual Mountain Days Celebration gives new meaning to the word rendezvous. In the old west tradi tion of trappers, hunters, native Americans and fun, Mountain Days captures it all. Nestled in the heart ofthe wild west (surrounded on all sides by steep mountain peaks, rivers and rugged beauty), Alpine is the perfect host town for such a historic celebration of the f past. Mountain Days takes place every year over Father's Day Weekend (this year it is June 13-15). The event fea tures everything from native American bonfire dancing to dutch oven cook offs and black powder riffle shooting con tests. Live music keeps the whole event hopping and booths supplying every thing from information to artifacts of V the old west can be found. July in Alpine brings the celebration of freedom and Americanism with the Fourth of July. Fireworks and other festivities are planned (see related article in this magazine for more details). This year don't miss the chance to see the newly completed Lyle F.
