The most notable feature of the distribution of carabid life-history traits on the slag heap is the reduction in abundances of such groups as large and small predatory specialists having an autumn breeding type of reproduction, with limited dispersal abilities, and preferring forests. The results showed that restoration involving only tree plantation does not guarantee the successful recreation of a functioning and stable ecosystem, as the ecosystem remains in the initial stage. To su Park prirode Kopački rit, Park prirode Lonjsko polje, Delta rijeke Neretve i Crna Mlaka. Glavni cilj specijalističkog rada je objediniti sve objavljene i neobjavljene podatke o nalazima vrsta kukaca na ova četiri močvarna staništa te kvalitativno usporediti entomofau nu pomoću Sörensonovog indexa faunističke sličnosti. Na području Parka prirode Kopački rit utvrđeno je ukupno 866 vrsta kukaca razvrstanih u 84 porodice i 513 rodova. Na području Parka prirode Lonjsko polje utvrđeno je 513 vrsta kukaca razvrstanih u 24 porodice i 89 rodova. Na području delte rijeke Neretve utvrđeno je ukupno 348 vrsta kukaca razvrstanih u 89 porodica i 227 rodova. Za područje Crne Mlake nije bilo dostupne literature o nalazima kukaca. Velika vrijednost Sörensonovog indexa od 80,85% ukazuje na veliku faunističku sličnost između faune obada Kopačkoga rita i Lonjskoga polja. Najmanja sličnost u fauni obada utvrđena je između močvarnih staništa Lonjskog polja i delte rijeke Neretve, a iznosi 41,37%.

Box 53, Hungary, e-mail: [email protected], [email protected] Species richness and composition of carabid assemblages were investigated on the ground surface of differently treated (abandoned, commercial and IPM) apple and pear orchards in Hungary. Extensive sampling was carried out by pitfall trapping in 13 apple and 3 pear orchards located in ten different regions. 28 230 indi- viduals belonging to 174 species were collected. Additional four species were collected by trunk-traps and 23 species were found during the review of earlier literature. Altogether 201 carabid species representing 40% of the carabid fauna of Hungary were found in our and earlier studies. The species richness varied between 23 and 76 in the different orchards, the average species richness was 43 species. The common species, occurring with high relative abundance in the individual orchards in decreasing order were: Pseudoophonus rufipes, Harpalus distinguendus, Harpalus tardus, Anisodactylus bino- tatus, Calathus fuscipes, Calathus erratus, Amara aenea, Harpalus affinis and Pterostichus melanarius. The species with wide distribution, occurring in more than 75% of the investigated orchards in decreas- ing order were: Pseudoophonus rufipes, Trechus quadristriatus, Harpalus tardus, Harpalus distinguendus, Pterostichus melanarius, Amara aenea, Amara familiaris Calathus fuscipes, Poecilus cupreus, Calathus ambi- guus, Calathus melanocephalus, Pseudoophonus griseus and Harpalus serripes.

An inventory research program for recording the fauna of Coleoptera of this area has been carried out by the staff of the Museum of Natural History Berlin since the 1970’s to 1989 (intensively from 1979 to 1981, later occasionally). Using various collecting methods, 776 Coleoptera species have been recorded. 84 of these species (10.8%) are more or less endangered and placed on the Red List of Brandenburg. The rove beetles (Staphylinidae) have been investigated particularly, thus 300 species were recorded, 56 species of which (= 18.7 %) are placed on the Red List of endangered species. The rove beetle species Stenus glabellus THOMSON, 1870, Stenus intermedius REY, 1884, Stenus kiesenwetteri ROSENHAUER, 1856, Philonthus salinus KIESENWETTER, 1844, Euryporus picipes (PAYKULL, 1800), Tachyporus pulchellus MANNERHEIM, 1841, Oligota inflata (MANNERHEIM, 1830), Myrmecocephalus concinnus (ERICHSON, 1839) and Schistoglossa curtipennis (SHARP, 1869) are especially remarkable for the fauna of Brandenburg as well as the weevil species Bagous lutosus (GYLLENHAL, 1827). Zusammenfassung Das Naturschutzgebiet "Wernsdorfer See" liegt 27 km südöstlich vom Zentrum Berlins entfernt im Bundesland Brandenburg. In diesem stadtnahen NSG wurde eine Inventarforschung zur Erfassung der Käferfauna seit Ende der 1970er Jahre bis 1989 (intensiv 1979-1981, sporadisch danach) durch Mitarbeiter des Museums für Naturkunde betrieben.

The study presents a survey of the species composition of ground beetles occurring in the five major subtypes of grassland ecosystems, distributed on the territory of Bulgaria (dry, mesic, wet, alpine-subalpine and inland salt grasslands). A total of 329 species of 71 genera were identified. The qualitative analysis of the carabids’ species composition confirmed the potentially crucial significance of humidity for the distribution of carabids. This parameter occurred as the first axis on the ordination graph. The other important factor appears to be the soil conditions, which was the second axis. The analysis of the life forms of the ground beetles occurring in grasslands showed a predominance of the zoophages (181 species; 55%) over the mixophytophages (148 species; 45%). After summarizing all available information, a model of the distribution of the species in the ecosystem subtypes, altitudes and regions was prepared. On the basis of the arithmetical average number of the common species from all altitude belts was developed a 5-scale system for assessment of the species richness of ground beetles and the conditions in the five subtypes of grassland ecosystems.
