January 6, 2019 Epiphany of the Lord

This Sunday, we celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany. This day is celebrated around the world as the day of the of the Magi—a day when is revealed as our Savior. What an incredible revelation to the Gentiles to find out that Our Divine Lord was born. Next Sunday, we celebrate the Baptism of the Lord, the day the Holy Spirit came down from heaven on the day of Jesus’ glorious baptism. He was proclaimed the beloved Son of the Father. This was our Lord’s second manifestation or epiphany. These feasts conclude the Christmas Season, but let us work to keep the joy of the season in our hearts and in our lives. Amen? Amen! Epiphany House Blessing On January 5 and 6, blessed chalk will be available at the doors of St. Cecilia for you to take home. The blessing of the home is a popular Epiphany custom. Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

In an effort to address the safety and security concerns at each church, a Safety Committee is being formed to examine them. Each church will have its own committee who will meet to form a comprehensive plan and then help to communicate that plan to the congregation. This will be an ad hoc committee with a limited scope that will meet in January and February of 2019. Those with experience in Police/Fire/EMT, mental health counseling, and emergency planning are encouraged to contact Matt Springer at [email protected] for more information. pastor’s ramblings | 4

St. Cecilia Morning Crew: We have a 6:45 AM Mass on Wednesdays, and then the priests, seminarians and parishioners go to the Madison Diner for breakfast and fellowship. On Dec. 12, the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, some of us were joined with an image of Our Lady (photo 1)! If you have time before work, join us for Mass and breakfast on Wednesdays. 1 St. Vin- cent de Paul Christmas Party: The annual St. Vincent de Paul Christmas party (photo 2) was celebrated a few weeks ago. We have one of the most involved societies—it’s 15-plus people strong. We are grateful to have such a caring crew that can care for those in need. 1 Welcome, Child of God: Welcome, Maximillian Job Cinefro, who was baptized Nov. 24. He and his 1 four siblings are the children of St. Cecilia parishioners Nathan and Jessica Cinefro (photo 3). 1 Reliquary: On the back of the new altar at St. Cecilia, there is a shadow box (photo 4) installed to hold many first-class relics of the saints. We thank all those who have generously given those relics for the altar. 1 Habitat House: The Habitat house on Sierra Street is nearly finished (photo 5). St. Anthony parishioners Mark McCarthy and Ken McPhillips have been part of the Wednesday building crew. Anyone interested in future builds can contact the office at St. Anthony for more information. 1 New Year 2019! In this new year, we should get back on track with growing spiritually. One way I look forward to doing this is reading new books. If you are looking for books to read for growth, here is a list: www. listchallenges.com/50-books-every-catholic-should-read (some 2 selections pictured at bottom).
