The Jeronimos Monastery is the most impressive symbol of Portugal’s power and wealth during the Age of Discoveries. King Manuel I built it in 1502 on the site of a hermitage founded by Prince Henry the Navigator, where Vasco da Gama and his crew spent their last night praying in Portugal before leaving for India. It was built to commemorate Vasco dà Gama’s voyage and to give thanks to the Virgin Mary for its success.

Vasco dà Gama’s tomb was placed inside by the entrance, as was the tomb of poet Luis de Camões, author of the epic “The Lusiadas” in which he glorifies the triumphs of dà Gama and his compatriots. Other great figures in Portuguese history are also entombed here, like King Manuel and King Sebastião, and poets Fernando Pessoa and Alexandre Herculano.

Built in 1515, the Belém Tower is a beautiful fortress that also served as the departure point for many of the voyages of discovery, and due to its architecture and historical significance it has been declared a World Heritage Site.

04:45 pm to 05:45 pm - Hop on a speed boat for an hour-long tour on the Tagus River

These high-speed rubber boats will be an incredible experience. You will be taken through the Tagus river at high speed, having the opportunity to see Lisbon with a completely new perspective

Come experience the “flying low altitude”! This boat has a capacity of 12 people each, plus the crew.

The group will split into teams (varying between 8 to 12 participants per team depending on the group’s size). After a general briefing in which all participants will learn how the activity works, each team will be given one tablet, a set of colored lanyards and tram tickets to use as part of the challenge.

Lisbon is an open-air gallery, not just for its beautiful tile-covered façades, the small tile panels and the traditional cobblestone designs, but also for its street art. The Portuguese capital is now known as one of the cities in the world with the best street art, and some local artists like Vhils and Bordalo II display their work all over the world.

Vhils is known for carving faces on facades, while Bordalo II creates art from trash...

Departure from the pick-up point to the charming town of Sintra

Visit one of the most beautiful places, the Regaleira. Visit the National Sintra Palace - dating from the 14th century. is a decorative 20th century residence lts two gigantic conical chimneys are the town’s most located in the town of Sintra. recognizable landmarks, while the rest of the building is a combination of the Moorish, Gothic and Manueline styles. The grand house is split over five floors and has an ornate gothic facade, but the real attraction is to the rear, with lnside it possesses what is said to be the most extensive the enchanting gardens. The gardens of the Palacio da collection of Mudejar Azulejos (colored glazed tiles) in the Regaleira were styled to represent ancient secret orders, or world. and the Initiation Wells better resemble underground towers lined with stairs. You will arrive at Belém quarter which has the largest number of heritage sites connected with the Portuguese Discoveries. lt was from the beach in Belém that Vasco da Gama set sail to discover the sea route to lndia. Among other sites, you will be able to stop and take photo of the Discoveries Monument which is a modern, sober style edification with precious artistic details.

lts shape looks like a stylized caravel and it is surrounded by sculptures of some of the biggest sailors and most important personalities of the time, such as Vasco dà Gama, Pedro Alvares Cabral and the poet Lufs de Cam6es.

At the top of the monument, the image of the discoveries’ great mastermind is highlighted in its entirety with the Infante D. Henrique holding a miniature caravel and observing the Tejo, fueling the desire to explore the new world.

At the entrance of the Discoveries Monument, a compass rose is drawn on the ground, which was a gift from the South African Republic as a sign of appreciation for the patrimonial collection that Portugal conquered. The compass rose shows the map of the world and the most important routes, as well as the respective years in which the Portuguese made their discoveries during the 15th and 16th centuries.

The story of these discoveries will forever be a part of Portugal’s culture.

On foot, we will continue to Belém Tower.
