    www.theicct.org BRIEFING DECEMBER 2016 NOX emissions from heavy-duty and light-duty diesel vehicles in the EU: Comparison of real-world performance and current type-approval requirements More diesel vehicles are sold in Europe than in China, India, and all of the Americas combined—over 8.8 million in 2014 alone, more than double the sales in the next largest diesel market, China (Figure 1). The majority of the diesels sold in Europe, as in the global market, are passenger cars; approximately five diesel passenger cars were sold worldwide for every heavy-duty vehicle. The months since the Volkswagen emissions cheating scandal broke in September 2015 have seen a heated public debate concerning exhaust emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOX) from diesel cars in Europe. The crux of that debate is that under normal operation many of these vehicles far exceed the limits imposed by regulation and certified by official type- approval tests, which all vehicle models must pass as a condition of being offered for sale in the European Union. There has been little comparable discussion of NOX emissions from diesel trucks. The most likely explanation for this different treatment is that data from in- use testing indicates that, in contrast to Euro 6 cars, Euro VI trucks do not systematically 1 emit significantly more NOX in real-world, everyday operation than they are certified to. And there is a likely explanation for that as well: emissions from diesel cars and trucks are regulated differently under the Euro standards. This briefing paper identifies key differences in the regulations governing certification of NOX emissions from diesel cars (Euro 6) and trucks (Euro VI) that help explain differences in their real-world emissions performance.

    2019-05-02 Elbilar ökade på en minskad totalmarknad i april - Nyregistreringarna av laddbara bilar, dvs elbilar och laddhybrider, ökade med 44 procent i april jämfört med april förra året. Uppgången var särskilt stor för rena elbilar, plus 271 procent. Närmare hälften av de laddbara bilarna i april i år var rena elbilar, jämfört med knappt var femte i april förra året. Totalmarknaden för nya personbilar minskade däremot med 11,6 procent. Det var väntat med en nedgång då vi har den bästa högkonjunkturen bakom oss och i linje med vår prognos för året. April förra året var den bästa aprilmånaden någonsin för nya personbilar med ökad efterfrågan inför det nya skattesystemet som infördes i juli. Den nya testmetoden WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure), som medfört förlängda leveranstider, har en fortsatt negativ påverkan på registreringstakten med långa leveranstider för många modeller, säger Mattias Bergman, vd för BIL Sweden. Ökad andel laddbara bilar – viktigt steg för att nå våra klimatmål - Andelen laddbara bilar av de totala nyregistreringarna var 10,1 procent i april jämfört med 6,2 procent i april förra året. Under de fyra första månaderna i år var andelen 12,4 procent mot 6,7 procent motsvarande period förra året. Det är en glädjande utveckling och ett viktigt steg på vägen mot att minska utsläppen. Well, it happened to me recently and turned out to be a happier experience than it might have been. Lucky break number one: It was nothing as dramatic as a night-time blowout at motorway speed. I was only made aware by a tyre pressure drop warning symbol on the dash (how many cars have that?) while sauntering in morning winter sunshine on a country road in Welsh border country. Not my own car. It was one of the increasing number of models without a spare wheel, or even a “skinny” emergency spare, in favour of a sealant injector, not much use, I was subsequently advised, in this case. www.wheels-alive.co.uk Lucky break number two: Ever-so-helpful locals. The first country garage workshop I pulled into gave prompt attention, located a protruding screw, but apologised they weren’t equipped to deal with tyres the size of the broad 18-inch Bridgestones on the 4WD SEAT Ateca SUV I was driving. They confirmed it was a slow puncture, pumped in some air to keep me going and phoned ahead – all, they insisted, without charge – to make an appointment at a tyre specialist they knew in the next sizeable market town.
