The Volvo XC60 received its premiere at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show; a facelift is expected for the third quarter of 2012. Volvo demonstrated what the future might hold for the XC60 at the 2012 North American International Auto Show, where it unveiled a plug-in hybrid concept car. Volvo cur- rently offers a choice of three diesel and three petrol units. With five trim lines and a range of trans- mission and drive variants available, customers have a choice of no less than 45 model versions. The 120 and 158 kW diesel engines serve as the entry-level models, with the petrol-powered XC60 range starting from 177 kW. The efficiency comparison with Audi produces a clear result. On the combined cycle, the Volvo XC60 3.2 AWD, for instance, consumes 1.4 l/100 km more than its counterpart, the Audi Q5 3.0 TFSI quattro, whose power output is furthermore 21 kW higher. All XC60 models come equipped with City Safety technology as standard. This is comparable with the full brake application function below 30 km/h, which forms part of the optional adaptive cruise control on the Audi Q5.

Weaknesses: •• Petrol engines have high emissions •• No full hybrid available •• No high-performance diesel engine in the range •• Less sporty bias

Strengths: •• High safety standard •• Wide range of trim lines •• Good comfort 42
