Tangherlini, Chair The academic study of Scandinavian culture and Scandinavian literature has long ignored the engagement of the Nordic nations in the tradition of drama and performance in medieval Europe. Early drama history scholars like Sophus Birket Smith and G.E. Klemming made claims about a perceived lack of practice based on limited sources and most of the scholars who followed them have accepted those claims as valid. Unfortunately, Birket Smith and Klemming were working with an incomplete corpus and nineteenth-century ideas about what constituted “drama”. Later scholars such as Frederick and Lise-Lone Marker and Terry Gunnell have made great headway in expanding the concept of drama and performance within the field of Scandinavian studies while also clarifying what texts we do, in fact, still have. -

Christmas, Easter, and Halloween
Christmas, Easter, and Halloween – Where Did They Come From? Vance Ferrell Harvestime Books HB–1332 Christmas, Easter, and Halloween Where Did They Come From? by Vance Ferrell Published by Harvestime Books Altamont, TN 37301 USA Printed in the United States of America Cover and Text Copyright © 2003 How thankful we can be for Jesus Christ, what He has done for us—and is doing right now. This book does not question the reality of our Lord and Saviour, the great work of redemption, or His soon coming in the clouds of heaven to redeem His people. We do not question the truth of Christ’s birth, but we would like to know where “Christmas” came from? And why is it celebrated on Decem- ber 25? Who is “Santa Claus” and how did he get into Christmas? We value the resurrection of Christ from the grave, but we would like to know the origin of “Easter,” and why it is celebrated with bunny rabbits and colored eggs. Then there is Halloween. Where did it come from? Why is it connected with witches, misshappen creatures, fires, and skeletons? Additional copies: For additional copies of this book at remarkably low prices in boxful quantities, write to Harvestime Books, Altamont, TN 37301. When you write, ask for a copy of our “Missionary Book Order Sheet”; this contains low-cost boxful prices of this book and others, such as Great Controversy, Ministry of Healing, Bible Readings, etc. 3 Contents Where Did Christmas Come From? 4 Historians Tell Us More about Christmas 17 Where Did Easter Come From? 44 Additional Historical Facts about Easter 51 Where Did Halloween Come From? 64 Additional Facts about Halloween 74 How to Come to Christ and Stay Close to Him 87 Entering a Deeper Walk with God 101 Source Index 124 4 Where Did Christmas Come From? Yes, where did Christmas come from? It did not begin at the birth of Christ; it began earlier! The De- cember 25 celebration had nothing to do with His birth. -

CHAPTER F IVE THE L UPERCALIA F ROM A UGUSTUS TO C ONSTANTINE P ORPHYROGENITUS LUPERCALIA AFTER A UGUSTUS Like many other festivals of the city of Rome, the Lupercalia became almost invisible during the first three centuries of the Imperial epoch. Only because of their special social cachet did the Luperci and their rites not entirely become invisible during the imperial centuries. Theirs was the only priestly sodalitas that Augustus reserved for the knights, whereas all other sodalitates became the privilege of the senatorial aristocracy. To be made a lupercus turned into a highly- coveted status symbol of “near-aristocracy” that was publicly marked with the statue of the new lupercus already in Julio-Claudian times – a new habit of this age, as the Elder Pliny tells us, himself of an equestrian background 1. Inscriptions from both Rome and the provinces show how to be adlected a lupercus in Rome was viewed as an important early step of an equestrian cursus honorum ; sacris ____________________________ 1Plin. Nat. 34.18: Among the Roman innovations in the iconography of statues Lupercorum habitu tam noviciae sunt quam quae nuper prodiere paenulis indutae ; see Veyne (1960), 105. – On the transformation of the Lupercalia between Caesar and Augustus see Ferriès (2009). -2- Festivals in the Greek East lupercalibus functo , “to have performed one’s duty as a lupercus” remained a major career step through most of the imperial age 2. The last lupercus whom we meet in inscriptions is L. Crepereius Rogatus, vir clarissimus , a member of the senatorial elite of the earlier fourth century, a young man when Diocletian came to power 3. -

The Origin of Christ-Mass: Catholic-Paganism
Christ-Mass: Catholic-Paganism "Learn not the way of the heathen...for the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest... they deck it with silver and gold" -- Jeremiah 10:2-4 THE teachingsof Scripture are directed toward developing an intense desire for that which is better, more powerful, stronger, holier, closer to divine principle and standard; toward the arousing of godly and spiritual yearnings that find their satisfaction and peace only in a constant upward effort toward conformity with the Perfect Example: off with the Old Man, on with the New. The glorious struggle of life must not be viewed as an unhappy, burdensome, stoical battle against what we really desire. The secret is rather a gradual, joyful education and training of the inclinations toward BETTER things; an opening up of out natural, dark, ignorant minds to divine Love and Light and Holiness-- "Yet show I unto you a MORE EXCELLENT WAY" (1 Cor. 12:31). "Overcome evil WITH GOOD" (Rom. 12:21). God says to us, "Here is a BETTER, a more Way." The life in the Truth is a GROWTH: a movement ever forward and upward; a progressive advancement toward greater light and fuller understanding. God desires us to want to get as close as possible to Him, and as far as possible away from the customs of the world: especially the superstitious and "religious" customs. If we are not deeply moved with this desire, there is little hope for us attaining the Kingdom. Baptism is only the first step of a long journey, a bare beginning: to STOP at that point is suicide. -
To Abilene... to the Religions That Crucify the Savior Each Day Because They Refuse to Repent of Breaking Yahweh’S Laws
But you will speak My Words; the Laws and the Prophets, to them... whether they will listen or whether they will not...and they will yet know that there has been a Prophet among them. Yechetzqyah 2:7, 5 YISRAYL HAWKINS You need to read this article thoroughly, and compare it with the Holy Scriptures. IT’S VITAL TO YOUR SALVATION! You will not survive what is coming next on this world if you don’t repent of sin (I Yahchanan 3:4, 7-8) and convert to keeping Yahweh’s Laws (Acts 3:18-23). You are not praying to the Creator Yahweh when you pray to God, El, Elohim, Adonai, Lord or the many other titles that have been used to replace the Name of the Creator. Yahweh will not answer you when you pray using these pagan titles. To Abilene... To The Religions That Crucify The Savior Each Day Because They Refuse To Repent Of Breaking Yahweh’s Laws. Hebrews 6:6, King James Version (KJV)— 20 And that He may send Yahshua, the Messiah Who was . preached to you, If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God .Revelation 22:12-16— afresh, and put him to an open shame. 12 And behold, I come quickly, and My Reward is with Me, to give every man according as his work will be. You who say Yahweh’s Laws of Righteousness have been 13 I am the First and the Last, the Beginning and the done away with, you continue to sin and cause all of your End.
