Jumbo-Visma’s Van Emden does not start. After an intense stage yesterday, the peloton rolls along together at a steady pace. Fifteen, 20, and 35 kilometres into the race, the riders seem to be holding off their attacks. After one hour of racing, the average speed is 37.500 km/h. Groupama riders are in prominent position at the front of the bunch, but the pace is steady. The situation remains unchanged 40 and 45 km into the race: the peloton is still all together. Intermediate Sprint (Umm-al-Quwain – km 51.3) Dekker claims the first intermediate sprint ahead of Milan, Cattaneo and Gallopin. The peloton returns to a steady pace immediately afterwards. Seventy kilometres into the race, the peloton is still packed, although the speed has picked up a little. Average speed after two hours of racing: 39.400 km/h. Ineos, Deceuninck, Bora and UAE rotate at the front, but the peloton is not splitting. At the -100 km marker, all is calm. We are starting to see some action, as Bidard and Le Gac clip off at km 117, immediately opening up an advantage. At the first time recording, they are 25” ahead of the bunch; at km 119, the gap rises to 45”, and is further up to 1’05” at km 122. Average speed after three hours: 41.300 km/h. At the -75 km marker, the bunch is 1’35” down on the two escapees; time gap at km 135: 1’55”. UAE Team Emirates are prominent at the head of the peloton, trying to control the breakaway. At km 142, the front duo are 2’07” two minutes up the road; at km 147: 2’02”. At the -50 km marker, the peloton is 2’26” down on the breakaway. After a puncture with 46 km to go, Bidard gets a replacement bike and starts to make his way back up to the front. Average speed after 4h: 41.400 km/h. The pace eases off: with 3 km remaining to the intermediate sprint, the advantage of the leading duo is down to 43”. Intermediate Sprint (Ras al Khaimah – km 171.1) Le Gac leads Bidard into the sprint. Dekker and Liepins come through in third and fourth, respectively. With 30 km remaining to the finish, the break is finally over. The peloton rolls along together, with teams trying to hit the front to organise their leadout trains as the finish approaches. With less than 5 km remaining, UAE Team Emirates are prominent at the front. Lotto Soudal and Deceuninck step up the pace with 2 km to go. Trek and Bora are well placed, too. At the flamme rouge, the battle is on. FINISH (Jebel Hafeet – km 166) Sam Bennet takes the stage ahead of Dekker, Ewan, Viviani, Moschetti, Ackermann, Bauhaus, Nizzolo, Gaviria, and the rest of the race coming home quickly behind them. • If You're Lucky Enough to Be Irish, You're Lucky Enough! St
ICA Theme Profile If You're Lucky Enough to be Irish, You're Lucky Enough! St. Patrick’s Day Celebration Created by: Richard Mullins Working intensity: moderate to very hard Length: 50 minutes Concept Behind the Profile Ireland has a population of 5 million people, but 70 million people call it home. We are the friendly Irish and we are the fighting Irish! I’ve picked several key moments in Irish culture that got Ireland noticed across the world and tied them into working intervals of varying duration. The terrain of Ireland is constantly changing, so be prepared for terrain that could always shift under your feet! The scope of this profile is to work below threshold, then at threshold, and finally give riders the option to work above threshold. When you ask a tourist about Ireland or if you think about how Ireland is perceived outside of our small isle, we are, in many cases, associated with the colour green, Guinness, and anything else that fits a stereotype. All one has to do is look at any tourist T-shirt! Let’s think beyond these stereotypes; Ireland has thrown herself into the world arena many times over the last few years (and before that) in the areas of dance, film, music, economics, and politics. These pivotal moments have slowly changed how we are perceived in the world. As the ride begins, I do like to mention a few quotes that various film and TV characters around the world have referenced about Ireland to lighten the mood. I will include some at the very end of this profile.

  • Ranking the Greatest Cyclists of All Time
The Outer Line The External Perspective On Pro Cycling Rankinghttps://www.theouterline.com The Greatest Cyclists Of All Time Who are the greatest male cyclists of all time? That would make a good trivia question at the cycling club’s annual dinner, and it’s sure to provide fodder for unending debate. Think about it: How many of us in America know enough cycling history to even come up with five good names? Sure, you could list the men who have won five Tours de France: Anquetil, Merckx, Hinault, and Induráin. (I’m omitting Armstrong, whose seven victories were officially annulled.) But that’s only four names. And Le Tour, of course, is only one race. Most of us don’t know our cycling like we know our baseball. Any baseball fan past infancy knows the names Ruth and Gehrig, Mantle and Mays, Clemens and Bonds. But American cycling fans would be hard- pressed, I think, to remember — let alone spell — the names Joop Zoetemelk and Roger de Vlaeminck. Both of those men, as it turns out, probably belong on any list of all-time greats. Zoetemelk was a Dutch ironman who started and finished the Tour 16 times (and won it once). De Vlaeminck was a Belgian steam engine who won the brutal Paris-Roubaix four times, the marathon Milano-Sanremo three times, and Tirreno-Adriatico, the Race of the Two Seas, six times. I know all of this thanks to CyclingRanking.com, a well-researched and well-documented site that attempts to list, in order, the greatest professional men’s cyclists of all time. The site is a labor of love by a Dutch family that started out as a kitchen-table exercise in the 1970s, and it will humble even the most studious cycling fans.
