5 INTERIOR

The interior of the All-New Sandero and Stepway have been significantly enhanced with a sophisticated new dashboard design and more premium materials. The designers have intelligently created an all-new interior by prioritising what’s important to customers and investing in those areas during development. As a result, the interior of both models come with improved ergonomics for better comfort, refinement, and greater robust finish, while continuing to offer the practicality of a supermini at the price of a city car. Across the dashboard is a new tactile fabric panel that extends to the doors, and slim and sophisticated new air vent designs. The designers paid particular attention to these aspects of the interior that the driver and passengers interact with in everyday use, enhancing the overall feel inside the All-New Sandero. The All-New Stepway adds unique orange detailing on the air vents and orange stitching on the upholstery which help mark it out further, while particular specifications feature more sophisticated heating controls shared with the Duster. The upmarket upholstery of the redesigned seats provides added comfort and support which, when combined with the enhanced reach and height adjustable steering wheel, ensure the driver is comfortable at all times. The Sandero has always offered supermini space at city car prices, and the new models are no different. Rear seat passengers are well catered for, with an extra 42mm of legroom over the previous models, delivering best-in-class legroom. The boot has increased in size to 328 litres and passengers also have more space to put their belongings, with up to 21 litres of storage space dotted throughout the cabin. 18 MANUFACTURING

Production of right-hand drive vehicles for the UK started at the Tangier plant in 2014. In 2017, the plant produced its millionth vehicle. The third generation Sandero will continue to be built at the Tangier plant, while the Sandero Stepway is produced in Mioveni alongside the Duster. The Tangier plant, designed to be efficient and eco-friendly from the very beginning, is unique in the automobile industry in producing zero

CO2 emissions and zero industrial effluent discharges. It was designed from the outset to be as environmentally innovative and responsible as possible. The plant currently produces 340,000 cars per year, exporting 95 per cent of vehicles to 73 destinations, while providing significant industrial, social and economic development opportunities locally in Tangier and Morocco more widely. The plant delivers impressive sustainability credentials, with more than 90 per cent of its energy requirements provided by renewable sources such as biomass for hot water supply for the paint ovens and paint booths. To make this happen, the biomass plant burns excess waste such as olive stones and wood pallets, providing the most renewable

method possible, saving approximately 100,000 tonnes of CO2 per year. Complex techniques are used to recover 45 per cent of the energy used in the paint department, a part of the plant that uses 70 per cent of the entire thermal energy consumption. 100 per cent of the industrial waste water is recycled, reducing the factory’s water consumption by 70 per cent, saving around 900 cubic metres of water per day. In a place of water stress such as Morocco, this is a key method in operating in the most sustainable way possible. Green electricity is also provided by wind turbines located on the hills surrounding the facility, producing ten times the energy actually required by the plant.
