A Clarice, amor, companheira. Me. ABSTRACT This research aimed to understand the singular phenomenon of Catholicism in the city of Novo Planalto. This municipality of the far North Goias had its Catholic religious formation different from the usual. In Novo Planalto, the Brazilian Apostolic Catholic Church, a dissident and emancipated Catholicism of Rome, exerted, between 1966 and the mid-1980, the dominion of faith. Characterized by the prominent prestige of Bishop Dom Araújo Ribeiro with the local population, the temple of the Brazilian Catholic Church was built where it is the central square ― an event that generated a dispute over the space of faith with the traditional Roman Church. To make sense of this context, we resorted to the memory of some pioneers, residents of Novo Planalto, to make this history, that is, oral history was the methodology chosen to understand the social formation of this community. We present, preliminary, a historical cut of the contestation of the universalism of Catholicism that culminated in the founding of a national Catholic Church. We understand that religiosity has a practical relationship with social, cultural composition and the feeling of belonging to a given social body. Thus, the work proposes to compose, from testimonies of former residents and pioneers, the history of tensions between the two strands of Catholicism as special substance in the composition of the Novoplanaltense community. Keywords: Novo Planalto. Brazilian Catholic Church. Roman Catholic Church. Dispute over faith. Oral history. • Preface to the 2016 Revision of the Constitution to the Clergy
Preface to the 2016 Revision of the Constitution To the Clergy, Religious and Laity of the Catholic Apostolic Church in North America Greetings: Nine years have passed since the last revision of the Constitution and Canons of CACINA. In 2007, relying on God’s guidance, we made many changes in our organization and in the way we function. The bishops moved away from the authoritarian power structure that had proven so problematic for other jurisdictions over the centuries, turning away from the traditional role of “governing, judging, and ruling.” Since 2007 the bishops have functioned as spiritual guides and chief pastors to the people, as well as protectors of the faith and doctrines of the Church, and arbiters of clergy conduct and discipline. Since 2007, the House of Delegates, made up of laity, deacons, and priests, now joins the bishops in governance of the church. Meeting annually at the General Assembly, the College of Bishops and the House of Delegates continue to guide and direct the Church and plan for its future. In particular, the members of laity of the Church are directly involved in the selection and preparation of candidates for ordination and are responsible for the management of Church funds. Finally, CACINA views the Canons as a living and dynamic document that guides us in our daily management of the affairs of the Church. Accordingly, the language of the Canons has been softened and, in some instances, its provisions have been made advisory or discretionary rather than mandatory. Revisions made to the Canons at this time were to separate operating procedures from the Canons with exception of Canon 10 which has been added to better define CACINA lay ministries.

  • Modern Alternative Popes*
Modern Alternative Popes* Magnus Lundberg Uppsala University The Second Vatican Council (1962-1965) is arguably the most important event in modern Catholicism, and a major act on the twentieth-century religious scene at large. On several points, the conciliar fathers made changes in how the Catholic Church perceived the modern world. The language in the decrees was different from earlier councils’, and the bishops opened up for ecumenism and interreligious dialogue, seeing at least “seeds of truth” in other religious traditions. The conciliar fathers also voted in favour of liberty of religion, as meaning something more than the right to practise Catholic faith. A very concrete effect of the Council was the introduction of the New Mass Order (Novus Ordo Missae) in 1969 that replaced the traditional Roman rite, decreed by Pius V in 1570. Apart from changes in content, under normal circumstances, the new mass should be read in the vernacular, not in Latin as before. Though many Catholics welcomed the reforms of Vatican II, many did not. In the period just after the end of the Council, large numbers of priests and nuns were laicized, few new priest candidates entered the seminaries, and many laypeople did not recognize the church and the liturgy, which they had grown up with. In the post- conciliar era, there developed several traditionalist groups that criticized the reforms and in particular the introduction of the Novus Ordo. Their criticism could be more or less radical, and more or less activist. Many stayed in their parishes and attended mass there, but remained faithful to traditional forms of devotions and paid much attention to modern Marian apparitions.

  • Apostolic Succession
Apostolic Succession Episcopal Seal of the Most Rev. Richard A. Kalbfleisch, STL, DD, NOSF Through the Catholic Apostolic Church of Brazil (Igreja Catolica Apostolica Brasileira) Old Catholic Church of Utrecht Russian Orthodox Church The Church of England & The Episcopal Church in the USA Catholic Apostolic Church of Brazil Archbishop Carlos Duarte Costa, ordained a priest within The Church of Rome on 1 April 1911, was consecrated to be the Roman Diocesan Bishop of Botucatu, Brazil, on 8 December 1924. His public statements on the treatment of the poor in Brazil (by both the civil government and the Roman Church) resulted in his removal as Diocesan Bishop of Botucatu. Bishop Duarte Costa was subsequently named Titular Bishop of Maura by Pope Pius XII (Eugenio Cardinal Pacelli, Vatican Secretary of State until 1939 under Pope Pius XI). Archbishop Duarte Costa's criticisms of the Vatican, particularly the policy toward Nazi Germany, were not well received. He was formerly separated from the Church of Rome on 6 July 1945 after his strong and repeated public denunciations of the Vatican Secretariat of State for granting Vatican Passports to some very high ranking Nazis. Some of the most notorious Nazi war criminals (e.g., Adolf Eichmann and Dr. Josef Mengele, the "Angel of Death,") escaped trial after World War II using Vatican Passports to flee to South America. The government of Brazil also came under the Bishop's criticism for collaborating with the Vatican on these passports. Bishop Duarte Costa espoused what would be considered today as a rather liberal position on divorce, challenged mandatory celibacy for clergy, and publicly condemned the perceived abuses of papal power (especially the concept of Papal Infallibility, which he considered misguided and false).

  • That. F Have Lived in Unlty with the Roman Catholic Church All My Life
Page 2 of3 Please understand I am not an Old Catholj-c, a schismatic or a protestant. None of that. f have lived in unlty with the Roman Catholic Church all my life. And yet I carefully studled Your Excellency's apostolic succession and as a lawyer trained in canon 1aw, dogmatic theol-ogy, moral- theology and ecclesiastical history I came to an absolutely clear conclusion that Your Excellency is (a) a validly (though probably i11icltly --but even that is a matter of discussion) consecrated bishop, (b) not just any Chrlstian bishop, but a Catholic bishop, (c) a bishop consecrated in the pre-Vatican II form, (d) a bishop consecrated by a Cathollc bishop who himself was consecrated in the pre-Vatican II form by a pre*Vatican II bishop. I have zero doubt that when His Excellency Carlos Duarte Costa consecrated His Excellency Luis Fernando Castill-o Mendez, given the materiaf and formal condltions being duly met, it was an absolutely valid consecration, and the l-ack of wrj-tten (or sil-ent) approval from the Vatican has no impact on that, as was very often the practice in Europe in the first millenium and in the New Wor1d even until development of regufar means of communication (it is difficuft to get an approval for consecrations where there is no mai1, no way to travel half around the wor1d, telephone and email- were not yet invented). In turn, I have zero doubt when His Excellency Luis Eernando Castillo Mendez consecrated Your Excellency, you received absolutely val-id episcopal consecration of the Cathofic, pre-Vatican If type.

  • Statement by the Superior General and the College of Bishops of the Catholic Church of England & Wales
STATEMENT BY THE SUPERIOR GENERAL AND THE COLLEGE OF BISHOPS OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH OF ENGLAND & WALES. Roman Catholic Vatican One Bishop Carlos Duarte Costa's " forced resignation", is when he left the Roman Catholic Church diocesan quarters, but remained in Rio de Janeiro as Bishop Emeritus of Botucatu and titular Bishop of Maura. He received full support from his protector. His Eminence, Cardinal Lord Sebastião da Silveira Cintra, who granted permission for him to keep a private chapel. Upon Cardinal Cintra's death in 1942 who died from a heart attack in Rio de Janeiro, the rough Justice from the Roman Catholic Church soon began and continues today to the successors of Archbishop Carlos Duarte Costa. Nevertheless, everyone of the bishops consecrated by any of the bishops within the Catholic Church of England & Wales are valid true Roman Catholic bishops stemming from Vatican 1. Even those consecrated prior to 2007 by His Holiness Patriarch Luis Fernando Castillo Mendez and that of Archbishop Atkinson-Wake who was not only consecrated in lawful Roman Catholic Vatican 1 Apostolic Succession. But he was granted autonomy by His Holiness and elevated to his current position by him. The Roman Catholic Church Vatican II and it's hierarchy has no say and cannot state anything different as to whether the Roman Catholic Vatican I, Bishops of the Catholic Church of England & Wales are not valid bishops. Vatican II have no authority to declare such. As long as the apostolic line from a bishop laying hands on to another bishop is an unbroken line. The rites used was a Roman Catholic pre Vatican II Rite with pure intent, form and matter.
