H/1 Theo Fennel “Jaguar Relationship Trophy”. Created in 1994/1995 by London jeweller and silversmith, Theo Fennel. Not awarded due to changed plans at Head Office. Made from hall- marked sterling silver and silver gilt, the trophy stands approx. 9 inches high, 5.6 inches in diameter and the mahogany base is 6.5 inches in diameter. A superb and imposing piece. This is its life story WORDS David Burgess-Wise // PHOTOGRAPHY Pawel Litwinski 74 SEPTEMBER 2014 OCTANE OCTANE SEPTEMBER 2014 75 FORD GT40 ROADSTER Right GT/108 differed slightly from earlier GT40 prototypes, with a new nose developed by Len Bailey at FAV and high-set rear-pillar air intakes. It remains the sole survivor with this nose treatment. Engine is a Cobra-spec Ford 289 V8. Lot E/1 The Star Lot for this auction is this fine copy of the leather-bound commemorative photographic album produced by Jaguar Cars after the world record run at the Montlhéry circuit in August 1952. At the front is a quite exceptional group of Jaguar autographs. Sir William Lyons heads the list, along with the likes of Bill Haynes and Arthur Whittaker them the drivers and other members of the team. A unique group of associated Montlhéry memorabilia accompanies the album. The very rare menu for the Reunion Party on 27 Oct 1952 at which the albums were presented, two newspaper clippings related to the record run, an official Jaguar Montlhéry Christmas card, contemporary hand written details of Records Broken and Records Bettered and a Fine copy of the scarce ‘Jaguar Proves It’ booklet produced by Shell to celebrate their contribution. This is a truly unique collection commemorating a milestone event in the creation of the Jaguar legend. A Fine album in a Good solander box (e£18,000-£20,000). In Jaguar terms, there have not been very many. In fact, if you disregard racing drivers like Duncan Hamilton and Stirling Moss (none of whom actually worked for Jaguar full time), up until last year the only book which was devoted solely to Jaguar topics, and was written by someone who worked there, was our own title on XJ13 (still available from us, of course). This was penned by Peter Wilson who was a competitions department staff member from 1961 to 1966. But correct me if I have forgotten someone else! Quite recently, however, two excellent books have appeared which both give first-hand accounts of how two very important and exciting Jaguars were developed. One tells of how Tom Walkinshaw created the all-conquering, ETC- winning XJ-S, and the other continues a TWR theme by describing how the magnificent 200mph+ XJ220 evolved from essentially a static show car to a highly effective supercar. We are very pleased to offer these books, which I describe below in more detail. -

This the first issue under our new Beano Editor Ad èle Hedges. I am sure it will be interesting with her own special slant as always. Val and I are leaving for a holiday in the sun, Thailand in the middle of February and will not be back until near the end of March. As a result, Jim Stewart will be taking over the Chairman duties as well as running the February and March meetings. I am sure you will all give him your usual welcome as you have done for me. The Executive has been working hard planning upcoming events and you will be advised of them by email and at the meetings. Please come out and support these events. We are trying to have at least one a month. Also consider hosting one of the many over the year. Malcolm Hargrave has a complete list of open dates. Of course some are more involved but as a starter some are very simple with minimal work. See Malcolm for details. This has been not a bad winter here on the island especially when compared to the rest of Canada.
