Bydd eich plentyn yn mynychu ysgol hapus A welcome from the Head Teacher a llwyddiannus sy’n ymfalchio yn ei balchder at y Gymraeg a Chymreictod ein disgyblion.

Yn amlwg yr ydym yn profi amgylchiadau heriol ar hyn o bryd ac felly wrth i mi ysgrifennu’r croeso yma atoch yn ein prosbectws ysgol, nid oes sicrwydd ynghylch trefniadau pontio hollbwysig eich plentyn. Hoffwn eich darbwyllo y byddwn ni fel ysgol yn ceisio rhannu gymaint o wybodaeth gyda chi unwaith y byddwn mewn sefyllfa i wneud hynny. Yr wyf hefyd am eich argyhoeddi y byddwn ni fel ysgol yn gweithio’n ddiwyd er mwyn sicrhau bod eich plentyn yn derbyn pob cyfle a chefnogaeth wrth bontio i’r ysgol uwchradd a thrwy hynny derbyn anwythiad gynhwysfawr wrth wneud y cam holl bwysig i’r ysgol uwchradd.

Yr wyf newydd dderbyn y fraint i gael fy mhenodi yn Bennaeth newydd yr ysgol. Yr wyf wedi mwynhau yn fawr fy holl gyfnod yn dysgu fel athro dros yr un mlynedd ar bymtheg ddiwethaf fel athro. Yn awr cofleidiaf y cyfle yn frwd i arwain dyfodol yr ysgol gyda’ch cymorth chi. Ar y dudalen nesaf, fe fyddwch yn cael cyfle i ymgyfarwyddo gyda gweledigaeth newydd yr ysgol. Yn sgîl yr amgylchiadau presennol yn deillio o’r argyfwng coronafeirws, nid ydym fel ysgol wedi cael cyfle i greu gweledigaeth ac ethos gytun ar gyfer yr ysgol yn seiliedig ar fewnbwn rhanddeiliaid hollbwysig yr ysgol sef plant, rhieni, staff a llywodraethwyr yr ysgol. Hoffwn rannu gyda chi fy mwriad diffuant i gynnwys eich barn, syniadau a’ch awgrymiadau chi fel bod modd i ni greu sylfaen o egwyddorion a gweledigaeth yr ydym oll fel partneriaid yn gallu cytuno arnynt ar gyfer dyfodol yr ysgol. Gobeithiaf yn fawr y byddwn mewn sefyllfa i ddod ynghyd a thrafod ethos newydd yr ysgol dros baned a sgwrs pan fydd yr amgylchiadau iechyd yn caniatáu hynny i ddigwydd.

May I extend a warm welcome to you as new parents of Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni. Your child will be attending a happy and successful school that prides itself in the Welsh language and the Cymreictod of our pupils.

Currently we are all obviously experiencing very challenging times and therefore as I write this welcome in our school prospectus there are no certainties regarding the transition arrangements for your child. May I assure you that we, as a school, will attempt to share with you all information as soon as we are in a position to do so. Rest assured we will work tirelessly to ensure your child receives every opportunity and comprehensive transition support whilst making the important step to secondary school.

I have recently accepted the privilege of becoming the new Head teacher of the school. I have thoroughly enjoyed my whole teaching career at Cwm Rhymni over the past sixteen years. I embrace the opportunity to lead the future of the school with your help. Overleaf you will have an opportunity to familiarize yourselves with the new school vision. Due to the coronavirus crisis, we, as a school, have not had an opportunity to form this vision and ethos collectively with the all-important voice of pupils, parents, staff and school governors. May I share with you my sincere intention to include your voice, ideas and suggestions enabling us to create a foundation of principles and a shared vision we all can agree upon for the future of the school. I sincerely hope we will be in a situation whereby we can come together to discuss the new ethos and vision for the school over a cup of tea or coffee and a chat when circumstances allow us to do so safely.

We are a unique school, as we are the only Welsh medium secondary school in County Borough. All pupils will be encouraged strongly to communicate with each other in Welsh, and to enjoy extracurricular events that celebrate the use of the language. Parental involvement and encouragement for their children to speak Welsh as often as possible is essential.

There are several ways students can be supported:-

The main aim of our transition process is familiarity. The transition between KS2 and KS3 begins in year 5 and includes meetings and events with the main objective of establishing a positive relationship between the school and future pupils before their start in Cwm Rhymni.

We ensure that all Year 6 pupils have an opportunity to visit the school during their last year of primary. Many departments have set up their own individual transition activities and a variation of pupils will be invited to attend. During the main transition day parents will be invited to the school to familiarise themselves with the teachers, lessons offered and classrooms. During this evening it will be possible to pre-order Cwm Rhymni’s uniform.

The Welsh Baccalaureate Bwriad y Fagloriaeth Gymreig yw adnabod llwyddiannau ein disgyblion o fewn ystod eang o’r cwricwlwm. Astudir uned gyffrous a pherthnasol ar Gymru, Ewrop a’r Byd, sydd yn ymestyn eu gwybodaeth ar faterion gwleidyddol, economaidd, diwylliannol a chymdeithasol yn ein cymdeithas heddiw. Ymatebir yn eang i faterion cyfoes drwy’r uned Addysg Bersonol a Chymdeithasol. Fel rhan o’r Fagloriaeth, cyflwynir iaith dramor newydd i’r disgyblion, maent yn llwyddo i gyflawni profiad gwaith, gwaith gwirfoddol ac uned fenter. Mae’r ysgol wedi cymryd yr awenau i gyflwyno’r cymhwyster newydd, cyffrous hwn mewn modd deinamig a pherthnasol, sydd yn caniatáu pob cyfle i’n disgyblion ddatblygu yn ddysgwyr chwilfrydig ac annibynnol.

The Welsh Baccalaureate qualification has become an integral part of our pupils’ curriculum. Our students will study the diploma at the level most appropriate to their learning. Our aim is that every student leaves Cwm Rhymni with at least one of the levels of the Welsh Baccalaureate, the highest level being the equivalent to an A Grade at A Level.

The Welsh Baccalaureate recognises our pupils’ ability in a variety of curriculum areas. They study an exciting and relevant module on Wales, Europe and the World which broadens knowledge of political, economic, cultural and social issues in today’s society. Important current affairs are addressed through an extensive Personal and Social Education programme. As part of the Welsh Baccalaureate, all pupils will learn a new foreign language, successfully complete work experience, voluntary work and an enterprise initiative. Our pupils also prove their competency in all of the essential and Key Skills, before being awarded the Welsh Baccalaureate diploma.

Many guest speakers are invited to Welsh Baccalaureate lessons, as well as pupils being able to participate in field trips both locally and nationally. The school has taken every opportunity to introduce this exciting new qualification in a lively and relevant way, which allows every opportunity to educate our pupils to become inquisitive and independent learners.

Bullying consists of a sequence of events where a person feels threatened by another person or group of people. Bullying assumes a variety of different forms, including physical bullying, verbal bullying, social bullying, and spreading malicious rumours. The teaching staff are aware of the various forms of bullying.

The teaching staff will listen to and consider every complaint made by a student. The teaching staff will also try to ensure the physical safety of the pupil. Any incident reported will be noted and the appropriate Wellbeing Leader will be alerted to the problem.

Your child will meet the form teacher on his/her frst day in Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni. This tutor will play an integral part in your child’s school life throughout the year. As well as registering the pupils in the morning, the tutor will also be responsible for weekly wellbeing lessons. The school encourages parents to keep in regular contact by making full use of the contact book, which will be checked on a weekly basis by the form tutor.

The school is committed to develop a healthy school environment. Our aims are to raise pupils’ confdence and self-esteem. Sex Education is included as part of the science and wellbeing lessons as well as the importance of maintaining healthy relationships.

We will be reporting back on every pupil’s progress frequently during the academic year.

In October and February we will be distributing the results of the monitoring progress, as well as an interim report in December for the content to be discussed in the parents’ evening. There is a proven link between high attendance levels and attainment. This is why we remind the students constantly of the importance of high attendance and punctuality. Following the 1996 Education Act we are required to keep accurate attendance records, detailing both dates and reasons for pupil absence. We kindly ask all parents to contact the school at the earliest convenience and leave a detailed message on the answering machine if your child is absent. If your child’s presence in school falls below a level we judge to be acceptable we will contact you. If this is a regular occurrence we will be contacting the School Attendance Officer, Mrs Sharon Risby who will arrange a meeting between school and parents.

The aim of our Additional Learning Needs and Inclusion Strategy is to ensure that our learners with additional learning needs take advantage of opportunities and gain effectively planned experiences to enable them to achieve their full potential. Our Individual Development Plans are designed with consideration of ALN legislation and seek to put the pupil at the center of all decisions about their education, aspirations and needs. Most pupils with additional learning needs are identifed during their time in primary schools and the school will ensure adequate transition sessions before their arrival. Homework and preparation work is planned by departments according to the requirements of the curriculum and its stage of development. The Physical Education department at Cwm Rhymni is a hard working, enthusiastic department and we are looking forward to welcoming your child to enjoy the numerous physical education opportunities provided by the department. In order to ensure that there are no misunderstandings and to help with pupil organisation it would be appreciated if you could respect the following departmental policies:

Addysg Gorfforol / Physical Education. • Pupils must wear the correct physical education kit to all lessons and if for a legitimate reason part of the kit is forgotten they must borrow and return the kit at the end of the lesson.
