School Family 1 GCSE performance 2010 in Wales’ families of schools. The following tables show how each school in Wales performed at GCSE compared to other similar schools. The families are set by the Welsh government and take into account the percentage of pupils at each school: . eligible for Free School Meals . living in areas classed in the most 20% deprived areas in Wales . with special educational needs . whose first language is not English or Welsh The tables are ordered according to the percentage of pupils achieving at least five A* to C grades including English or Welsh and Mathematics, as this is considered the key indicator of GCSE performance. REVISED 21ST C SCHOOLS BAND B STRATEGIC OUTLINE PROGRAMME (SOP) Cabinet was asked to approve a revised Strategic Outline Programme (SOP) to Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools Programme requesting an increase in the funding envelope from £113 million to £263 million, to support the Council’s Strategy for Transforming Education in Powys 2020-30. To enable the Cabinet to consider recommendations to hold a public consultation on potential options for a site on which a new build state of the art 11-16 school (Eastern High) with post 16 provision being delivered by Cardiff and Vale College (CAVC) would be constructed. The 11-16 school would replace the existing facilities for Eastern High currently located on the site formerly known as the Rumney High School site. It is also proposed to demolish the existing CAVC facilities and construct new post 16 facilities to be managed by CAVC. 2. To enable the Cabinet to note any other actions that need to be taken and costs incurred in order for officers to provide a more comprehensive report to Cabinet following consultation on the site for the new build. 3. To enable the Cabinet to note the Minister’s decision to instruct the Council to close Llanrumney High School in August 2013, a year ahead of the date planned. Background 4. At its meeting on 6 December 2012, the Cabinet, in accordance with the terms of the Schools Standards & Framework Act 1998, approved a recommendation for the publication of a statutory notice to: • Discontinue Llanrumney High School, Ball Road, Llanrumney, Cardiff CF3 4YW from August 2014. • Discontinue Rumney High School, Newport Road, Rumney, Cardiff CF3 3XG from August 2014.

Pupils have the opportunity to participate in Music and Drama, with two major School Productions annually, and choral and orchestral performances. Team activities are a strength in all major sports with clubs at lunchtime, after school and before school encouraging still wider participation.

We can now plan for the future with increased confidence for a future of stable education for all our students, from 11-18. Another busy term is almost over and Christmas is rapidly approaching. Once again this has been a very busy time and it never ceases to amaze me how many activities we are able to fit in. There is a very lively and positive atmosphere around school and students are achieving amazing things, many of which are included in this magazine. Good There have been lots of developments to improve the school environment over the summer, and of course our new uniform has been introduced with students looking incredibly smart. The new uniform has proved a greater success than Behaviour even I would have predicted. I have received many compliments from members of the local community regarding the smart appearance of our students both Award verbally and in writing. Students also seem to be enjoying the new uniform. My particular thanks to all parents for being patient in waiting for deliveries due to the A Good Behaviour Award is given large volume of new uniform purchase.
