Day 4 to 6 Hwange National Park Hwange National Park is Zimbabwe’s biggest reserve, home to a profusion of wildlife, including giraffe, lion, zebra and approximately 40 000 elephants. It provides sanctuary for all the country’s endangered species, including a population of wild dogs thought to be among the most sizeable surviving groups on the continent. Terrain ranges from desert dunes and savannah lands to rocky outcrops and sparse forests. Overnight: The Hide Well known and much loved, The Hide Safari Camp is situated within Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe's largest game reserve. ‘The Hide’, into its third decade, accommodates up to 20 guests in well-appointed deluxe tents under thatch, all tents overlook the productive waterhole. Tents have en-suite facilities that include outdoor showers and bath tubs. Up to 4 game activities per day, bush walks, day and night drives, ‘hide’ sits including our new underground tunnel to one hide. Enjoy a “sleep-out” in the romantic Dove’s Nest. P a g e | 6 Notes: Day 4, 5 & 6 DAY 4 After breakfast at Victoria Falls Safari Lodge, you may have time for one last quick activity before you head out to Hwange National Park. It takes about 2.5 to 3 hours on tarred road and then 30 minutes to an hour on dirt road to get to The Hide. Once you arrive, check into your comfortable deluxe room. You may take some time to rest and take in your surroundings and have some refreshments at the main lodge or under your private patio. This is also an excellent time to be in the underground Hides, or game viewing from the elevated platform, which overlooks a large open area through which the movement of game is excellent. Return to the lodge and freshen up before the evening drinks and snacks. You typically might see the animals at the waterhole. After dinner, go on a night drive which lasts about 30 minutes to an hour. Spotlights are used to show up the nocturnal animals such as bat eared fox, as well as lion, leopard and hyena. Head back to camp for drinks before you retire to your room. DAY 5 Wake up to tea/coffee/juice before gathering in the dining room for a continental breakfast. Take a morning walking safari around the lodge's concession, and combine it with a game drive. Drinks and snacks will be served during your activities. After your morning activities, return to the lodge for brunch. You may want to rest in your room, or at the main lounge which overlooks the waterhole. Alternatively, you can go down the underground tunnels into one of the hides, and observe the animals at the waterhole up close, but from a safe distance. Return to the lodge for afternoon tea before going on a game drive. The game drive will end with sundowners on the concession, and then you will return to the lodge. Freshen up for drinks and snacks at the main lodge. Dinner will be served at around 8pm. If you are up for it, you can spend the night at the Dove's Nest under the stars, only five minutes from camp. You guide will escort you to the site. DAY 6 On this morning, we recommend an early morning game drive deeper into Hwange National Park. Return to camp for brunch and afterwards, take some time to rest in your room, take a dip in the pool, or watch the animal action from the main lounge. After high tea, take a nature walk with a qualified guide around the concession and onto the underground hide. Spend some time observing the animal action and then return to the lodge to freshen up. End the day with dinner and a night drive. P a g e | 7 Activities Info Guided Walks Morning and afternoon guided walks are offered at The Hide Safari Camp. The Hide Safari Camp is fortunate to have the best of both worlds. While located within the Hwange National Park, it is also surrounded by a private concession which allows us to offer activities not otherwise permitted. Hwange is a vast playground worth exploring so you don’t have to worry about being bored. Early morning walks are there for the thrill of encountering wildlife on its own terms and exploring the little surprises of the bush.
