DOCTOR WHO LOGOPOLIS Christopher H. Bidmead Based on the BBC television serial by Christopher H. Bidmead by arrangement with the British Broadcasting Corporation 1. Events cast shadows before them, but the huger shadows creep over us unseen. When some great circumstance, hovering somewhere in the future, is a catastrophe of incalculable consequence, you may not see the signs in the small happenings that go before. The Doctor did, however - vaguely. While the Doctor paced back and forth in the TARDIS cloister room trying to make some sense of the tangle of troublesome thoughts that had followed him from Traken, in a completely different sector of the Universe, in a place called Earth, one such small foreshadowing was already beginning to unfold. It was a simple thing. A policeman leaned his bicycle against a police box, took a key from the breast pocket of his uniform jacket and unlocked the little telephone door to make a phone call. Police Constable Donald Seagrave was in a jovial mood. The sun was shining, the bicycle was performing perfectly since its overhaul last Saturday afternoon, and now that the water-main flooding in Burney Street was repaired he was on his way home for tea, if that was all right with the Super. It seemed to be a bad line. Seagrave could hear his Superintendent at the far end saying, 'Speak up . Who's that . .?', but there was this whirring noise, and then a sort of chuffing and groaning . The baffled constable looked into the telephone, and then banged it on his helmet to try to improve the connection.

PART ONE THE DOCTOR AND HIS COMPANIONS 1 1 A Young-Old Face Out with the New and in with the Old in Doctor Who Richard Hewett Introduction ‘I approve of your new face, Doctor - so much more like mine.’ This line, spoken by the now ancient, enervated and seemingly dying Davros in ‘The Magician’s Apprentice’, is just one of many age-related barbs directed at the Twelfth Doctor during Peter Capaldi’s reign, serving as a constant reminder that the Time Lord is no longer (if, indeed, his on-screen self ever was)1 a young man. Throughout his tenure, friends and foes alike highlighted the latest incarnation’s wrinkled, somewhat cadaverous visage, grey hair, and scrawny body, the Doctor being variously described as a ‘desiccated man crone’ (‘Robot of Sherwood’), a ‘grey-haired stick insect’ (‘Listen’), and a ‘skeleton man’ (‘Last Christmas’).

Anime, Doctor Who, novel after novel involving clockwork and airships.” --Catherynne M. Valente1 Introduction It seems nearly every article or essay on Neo-Victorianism must, by tradition, begin with a defence of the discipline and an explanation of what is currently encompassed by the term— or, more likely, what is not. Since at least 2008 and the launch of the interdisciplinary journal Neo-Victorian Studies, scholars have been grappling with a catch-all definition for the term. Though it is appropriate that Mark Llewellyn should note in his 2008 “What Is Neo-Victorian Studies?” that “in bookstores and TV guides all around us what we see is the ‘nostalgic tug’ that the (quasi-) Victorian exerts on the mainstream,” Imelda Whelehan is right to suggest that the novel is the supreme and legitimizing source2.

COUNTRYSIDE/FARMS - DAY X 1 Drone shot: spreading below us the most beautiful sunlit countryside you can imagine. Meadows and farms and rivers and cottages, under a perfect blue sky. On a dirt track far below, a horse and cart. Now drifting down to this. In the cart, a bunch of kids, jostling along. Chatting, laughing, happy. Their clothes are rough and simple - could be any era. Most probably The Waltons. Closer on a little girl - about twelve. This is Alit, she’s not joining in the chatter - she’s watching the countryside roll by. Dark, thoughtful eyes. Alit’s POV. A field rolling past. In the middle of the field - not yet clearly seen - a scarecrow. Alit, staring at it. Now closer on the scarecrow: Closer: this is no ordinary scarecrow. It’s clearly a one of the Special Patients from the world below. It is chained to a post in the middle of the field. Its head hangs slackly. Dead? Panning along, as with the cart - in the distance we can see a couple of other chained-up Patients, also serving as Scarecrows. Now panning past another, really close to us. Weakly, it raises its head, as if watching the cart go past. On Alit again, frowning at this strange scarecrow, as the cart rattles on. ALIT They look sad, the scarecrows. Read Ebook {PDF EPUB} Doctor Who 1001 Nights by Emma Beeby Doctor Who: 1001 Nights by Emma Beeby. 1001 Nights (Emma Beeby, Gordon Rennie, Jonathan Barnes and Catherine Harvey) Currently Big Finish Production's main Doctor Who range has been divided into four trilogies every year, but with 13 releases in every 12-month cycle, there's always one story that stands alone and this has been reserved for the release for December. For December 2012 this stand-alone story is "1001 Nights" - a Fifth Doctor and Nyssa story starring Peter Davison and Sarah Sutton. "1001 Nights" has been written by: Emma Beeby and Gordon Rennie, Jonathan Barnes and Catherine Harvey. It has been directed by Barnaby Edwards and was recorded on the 7th and 8th August 2012. Joining Peter Davison and Sarah Sutton are: Alexander Siddig, Nadim Sawalha, Malcolm Tierney, Teddy Kempner, Kim Ismay, Debbie Leigh- Simmons, Christopher Luscombe and Oliver Coopersmith. Sylvester McCoy. It has been commented that this story’s lack of ties to other adventures is one of its strengths. As revealed by Barnaby Edwards ‘ The good thing about "1001 Nights" is that you don't need to know any continuity. You don't need to own any other Doctor Who audio stories for it to work - its great strength is that it's not part of a trilogy. It works incredibly well in its own right, and effectively because it's four stories all rolled into one, it's a quartet of new Fifth Doctor and Nyssa stories in one package. Very good value for money! ’.
