The Neotropical genus Adenomera Steindachner, and is an important conservation area for the state, 1867, belonging to subfamily (Pyron located between the sources of the rivers Itapecuru and and Wiens, 2011), is widely distributed in South Alpercatas. The local climate is sub-humid to humid, America east of the Andes and is currently represented with annual rainfall 1200-1400 mm. The maximum by 18 species distributed in seven clade: A. andreae, temperature ranges from 31º C to 33º C and minimum A. heyeri, A. hylaedactyla, A. lutzi, A. marmorata, A. of 19º C to 21º C (IBGE, 1998). The specimens were martinezi and A. thomei (Fouquet et al., 2014; Frost, found calling on soaked soil among bulrush tufts in a 2014). Adenomera saci, belonging to A. martinezi flooded field covered by emergent vegetation within a clade (Fouquet et al., 2014), was recently described typical Cerrado area. Despite having nocturnal habits from the taxonomic revision of populations previously recognized as A. martinezi (Carvalho and Giaretta, 2013). Adenomera saci occurs in rocky Cerrado environments associated with palm grove marshes in the regions of Central Western (States of Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul and Goiás), and Northern Brazil (only in the State of Tocantins; Carvalho and Giaretta, 2013). Herein, we present the first occurrence of A. saci for the state of Maranhão, Northeastern Brazil. During fieldwork at the Parque Estadual do Mirador (-45.473611º and -6.791111º, Datum SAD 69), located between the municipalities of Mirador, Grajaú, and São Raimundo das Mangabeiras, southern State of Maranhão, we recorded several individuals of A. saci calling at dusk, around 17:30 h on April 12, 2014. The Parque Estadual do Mirador has about 767,000.00 ha

(Carvalho and Giaretta, 2013), the observerd individuals notes). Bioacoustic data presented here are similar to stopped calling around 18 h. those reported by Carvalho and Giaretta (2013), which According to the species description, A. saci is very confirms the identity of the collected specimens as A. similar to A. martinezi, though can be diagnosed saci. In addition, the occurrence of A. saci in wetlands by its typical 4–6 symmetrically arranged rows of associated with palm trees (veredas) is common in longitudinal dark-colored spots on dorsum and mainly several regions of Brazil (Silva Jr. et al., 2009; Kopp by its advertisement call structure, composed by non- et al., 2010; Morais et al., 2011; Carvalho and Giaretta, pulsed notes resembling a whistle to the human ear 2013). (Carvalho and Giaretta, 2013) (Fig. 1). We recorded This new record for the state of Maranhão extends the calls of a single male with a digital recorder (Marantz geographic range of A. saci in about 360 km in a straight PMD660) coupled to a directional microphone line to northeast of Colinas do Tocantins (Carvalho and (Sennheiser Me66/K6) set at a sampling rate of 44.1 Giaretta, 2013), in the state of Tocantins (Fig. 2), being kHz and a 16-bit resolution. The call was analyzed and the first record of this species in Northeastern Brazil. the oscillograms and audiospectrograms were generated This record emphasizes the importance of conducting using the software Soundruler version 0.9.6 (Gridi- inventories of the fauna throughout the Papp, 2004; Bee, 2004), in order to confirm the species Northeast Brazil, since studies on are identification. Two adult males with snout-vent length scarce in that region compared to other regions of (SVL) of 22,5 mm and 24,0 mm were collected (Fig. 1) Brazil (Andrade et al., 2012).
