As this is our second volume, you’ll find several score new or converted monsters, as well as a few different interpretations of monsters that have already been converted. A word of caution, just as many official 3E and 3.5E monsters did not slavishly follow earlier write-ups of those monsters, neither do the monsters herein. Instead, we did our best to consider all sources, hopefully make full and creative use of the 3.5E rules (including non-core WotC books), and in many cases add a little bit here and there to many of the monsters, even if it was in only adding or updating their Realms lore. A few have even been renamed. One last note, we’ve done our best to include source references for all things where appropriate, except those found in the three core rulebooks or Expanded Psionics Handbook. This makes it very difficult to find what you are looking for, a problem exasperated by Spelljammer’s status as a ‘connection’ campaign, designed (like Planescape) to connect the ‘big’ three settings, Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk, and Dragonlance. I’ve been working to alleviate this problem by writing guides and indices for those aspects of Spelljammer that are most important for creating a coherent, rational game setting. The first of these guides was An “Official” Spelljammer Timeline, which collated Spelljammer-related historical mentions in published TSR products into a cohesive, coherent timeline that Spelljammer (or Hackjammer) gamemasters could use as the foundation of their own, personalized campaigns. This guide, An “Official” Spelljammer Guide to the Spheres, has a similar purpose. Spelljammer’s iconic center is the Rock of Bral, just as Sigil is the iconic heart of Planescape, Spelljammer’s setting cousin, but Sigil’s location is quite firmly placed at the center of the Plane of Concordant Opposition, metaphorically the heart of the entire Advanced Dungeons and Dragons multiverse. Moreover, the various inner and outer planes are all well mapped in relation to each other, and have been ever since the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons Player’s Handbook in 1978. -

WESTGATE RUBY WINE: (Westgate, Vilhon Reach) This thick red wine is often served with a small ruby in it, (although only in the finest feast-halls of Westgate.) It is a stronger wine served throughout Cormyr, the Vilhon Reach and the Sword Coast. WINTER WINE: (Neverwinter, the Sword Coast) A common white wine made in the North and sold in other cold climates. This surprisingly strong tasting (although not quite effecting) wine is often drunk by nobility but can be found in smaller taverns in the North, Sword Coast and northern parts of Amn. ALES ANGEL'S LIGHT ALE: (Mount Celestia) The glowing white ale has an unbelievable sweet taste but is rather light, even for its name. It is brewed in the golden fields of Mount Celestia and but is only common in Sigil, although some barrels of the drink have appeared in various Realms. When drunk this ale gives the imbiber a glow equal to a light spell. ATHKATHLIC ALE: (Athkatla, Amn) Also know as Amnish Ale, this poor quality brown ale brewed in huge amounts and often put onto ships for Amnish sailors, thus it is often popular with sailing folk and sometimes referred to as “Ship's Ale”. It has a bitter and dull taste. It is found in Amn, Tethyr, the Sword Coast and the Amnian colonies of Maztica. BITTER BLACK ALE: (Iriaebor, the Sword Coast) A very popular drink known for it's bitter taste and black color. This drink is often the favorite of wandering adventurers and can be found in the Sword Coast, Amn, Tethyr, the North, the Vilhon Reach and even in Cormyr. -

The history of Impiltur and its four great dynasties spans more than an age. Born in the shadow of the demon-tainted realm of Narfell, the kingdom owes its roots to the continual human diaspora that was a feature of the Chondathan race. The melding of Chondathan and Nar cultures that followed secured the solid foundation that would see our kingdom dominate the Easting Reach and nurture the founding of such kingdoms as Milvarn, Velprin, Aglarond and Damara. Beset by a myriad of foes, most notably the dark legacy of fiends left behind after the fall of Narfell, the men and women of Impiltur have braved and tamed this land, and in so doing have endured Talona’s dire regard, the depredations of the orcs and the scourge of the hobgoblins. Now with the crowning of a new king, Impiltur must wake from its somnolence and prepare itself to once again seize the mantle of greatness that many had considered lost to it forever. A golden age looms on the horizon, for as surely as the sun rises of a morn, so too must Impiltur’s glorious history be made and remade anew as the seasons turn and heroes stand tall. I don't mean the months, perhaps even years, you may have waited for a revised, expanded, and improved edition of the AD&D game. I mean the long time it has taken me to reach this point, the writing of the foreword. Forewords are written last, so that you can summarize your feelings and experiences about the book you have written. It's not accurate to say this is a book that I alone have written. First off, there are a lot of other names listed in the credits. They, especially the editors, contributed time and talents that I don't have. Improving the organization and readability was one of the reasons we started this project in the first place. These are tasks that can't be done without talented editors who play and care about the game. If you discover that it's easier to find rules during your gaming sessions and that everything seems to make more sense, thank the editors. Even with the editors, this is not our work alone. None of this would ever have come into being without interested and involved players. The people who really decided what needed to be done for the AD&D 2nd Edition game are the players who mailed in questions, everyone who wrote an article for DRAGON® Magazine, and everyone who button-holed me (or other designers) at conventions. -

Many times was I in the position to photocopy (“Xerox”) a module or booklet that the owner didn’t wish to sell. So gradually my collection expanded with not only genuine products but also with photocopies. Since the coming of the officially digitized classic products (PDF) it is even harder to keep track of what product you own in what format. With the Collectors Checklist you will be able to sort your whole Dungeons&Dragons collection, no matter what the format is! For those out there who haven’t got a clue, here’s how to use the Collectors Checklist: TSR-Code : The product’s publishing code Sub-Code : When a product belongs to a specific group of products it carries this code Title : The product’s title (dah!)
