(cast) cabaret performers Brian Cadd and the Bootleg Family music arrangement Graeme Lyall music recording Bill

Composer and performer Brian Cadd wrote the music for both and Alvin Rides Again, and the opening titles number for the sequel is a reprise of the song he wrote for the first film.

A jazzed-up variant of the title song, sounding like it was sung by the "double" gangster character Balls McGee, played by Graeme Blundell, runs over the end credits.

In the sequel Cadd and his band score a lengthy spot singing a number All In The Way (They Use My Face).

Brian Cadd was a popular singer songwriter who had been in the bands and Axiom in the 1960s, and then in the early 1970s went solo. His self-titled debut album was released in October 1972, with the first single Ginger Man. After doing the scores for Alvin Purple and the sequel Alvin Purple Rides Again, and releasing his third solo album, Moonshine in 1974, Cadd went to the United States to work, not returning to Australia until 1993.

His wiki is here. Cadd has his own detailed web site, with history, photos etc here. Information on that site is replicated, with other details, here.

Lyrics of song, as performed during the film:

See the magic on my wall From the movies and amusement halls Iʼve got an Edward G. and a Monroe still Dreaming is cheap and Iʼve had my fill Come the day when the time is right Using feelings born of sound and sight Iʼm an actor but Iʼve got no part Donʼt need no lines ʻcause theyʼre right here in my heart And itʼs all in the way that they use my face Finding a friend who can take my place All in the way that they use my face And I see myself … on the shelf some day

Itʼs been a while still no role to play City streets and lonely bars that crowd my day Thoughts of fantasy and love supreme Riding on a charger with a movie queen Phoned my lady but thereʼs no-one there Dressing up and sitting around and going nowhere Lost her to a writer of some TV shows …

(music fades under dialogue as hook repeats)

When Iʼm home alone man calls me on the phone …

Cross the street and buy a magazine …

Dress me and direct me and I could look just the same … As a man that swims a river, who alone can win the war Thereʼs a million of us hoping that youʼll open one small door And itʼs all in the way that they use my face Finding a friend who can take my place Itʼs all in the way that they use my face And I see myself … on the shelf And itʼs all in the way that they use my face Finding a friend who can take my place Itʼs all in the way that they use my face And I see myself … on the shelf And itʼs all in the way that they use my face All in the way that they use my face ...

(etc to fade out and applause)
