  • SECOND to NONE NCL Round Up
#COYS SECOND TO NONE NCL Round up The Saints last home fixture was against Drighlington, who were out to avenge an earlier season defeat by the Saints. With conditions that resembled a monsoon, it made the handling and attacking for both teams difficult. A try by Simon Topping, and goals by Matt Whitehead looked to have secured the points for the Saints, put a last minute penalty for the visitors ended the game in the draw. The week later, the Saints travelled to Hensingham with a squad that had to draft in Under 18s, Owen Smith and Josh Yarwood into the ranks due to injuries, and player availability. The hosts got off to a great start running in two tries in 15 minutes, before the Saints hit back with a try from Callum Cashin. Moments later, the Saints lost centre Cameron Ladd with a broken hand, and then loose forward Rob Charles, both players couldn’t return to the field. This put pressure on the bench, and with sweltering conditions it made life difficult. The home side led at half time 26 to 4,and it didn’t look Saints could claw themselves back into the game. However, the never say die attitude of the squad saw the visitors score three tries through captain Matt Whitehead, who also converted all three tries, pulled the Saints back into contention. However, as the home team tired, the Saints ran out of time to to claim the victory, going down 34 to 22. claim the victory, going down 34 to 22. • THE ROTHWELL, LOFTHOUSE, OULTON with WOODLESFORD and METHLEY with MICKLETOWN TEAM BROCHURE
Holy Trinity Church, Church Street, Rothwell, LS26 0QL Parish Profile THE ROTHWELL, LOFTHOUSE, OULTON WITH WOODLESFORD and METHLEY WITH MICKLETOWN TEAM BROCHURE January 2018 1 Holy Trinity Church, Church Street, Rothwell, LS26 0QL Parish Profile THE OPPORTUNITY We are looking and praying for a Team Rector who will lead us, and bring new energy to support us in collaborating our Mission & Ministry across our four parishes. THE TEAM, ITS PARISHES AND THE AREA TEAM LOCATION All four parishes cluster around the M1/M62 intersection in easy reach of both Leeds and Wakefield. Many of our people have coal mining in their blood and the Benefice encompasses the world-famous Rhubarb Triangle. DIVERSITY ACROSS THE TEAM For all our geographical closeness, each community has a distinct character. Rothwell was a large mining village which has grown into a significant suburban centre and feels like a small town. Lofthouse is a ribbon development of mining and agricultural communities along a main road where in recent decades many housing estates have grown up. Oulton with Woodlesford combines historic housing of the wealthy with some challenging estates and has a good selection of shops and other facilities. Methley is a large village set amidst the estate of its aristocratic lords of the manor which is joined with the mining centre of Mickletown where most people live. TEAM HISTORY Two parishes are in the Domesday Book, but all owe their population growth to coal mining and associated industries. They all now attract commuters into the cities and so all communities within the Team continue to grow.

A big thanks to everybody concerned at Saddleworth for agreeing to play this fixture on a Friday evening. We visited Saddleworth last season, the first time we had played them since the old clubhouse was demolished, the new clubhouse and changing rooms are fantastic and amongst the best in the NCL. Well done to all those involved in these improvements. Last season’s games we had the edge over Saddleworth beating them at home 34-14 and a very close encounter away, winning a hard fought and entertaining game 19-18.

The season has really had a shocking start weather wise for some clubs, this is only Saddleworths second game of the season and no doubt they will be hoping to get off the mark after a defeat at Askam two weeks ago. We have been more fortunate with no postponements but after our flier in the first game away at Leigh East we have come a bit unstuck with defeats at home to Dewsbury Moor and away last week at Wigan St Judes.
