NHS Highland Board Secretary Assynt House, Beechwood Park, INVERNESS IV2 3BW Telephone 01463 717123 Fax 01463 235189 www.nhshighland.scot.nhs.uk Date 16/04/2018 Our Ref: RD/am FOI Ref 5640 Direct Line 01463 717123 Email [email protected] Dear Freedom of Information Act Request Ref 5640 Taxis With reference to your request for information dated March 21 st 2018 regarding the above, please find below your questions and our responses:- Please tell me how much NHS Highland has spent on paying for taxis for patients for transfer from Caithness to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness because the medical services the patients needed are not offered, or no longer offered, in Caithness. Due to the way in which the taxi invoices are coded, we are unable to provide this information due to the excessive cost of compliance. Under Section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act, we must formally decline to provide the information rrequested due to the excessive cost of compliance. Section 12 of the Act means Scottish public authorities are not obliged to comply with a request for information if the authority estimates the cost of complying with the request would exceed the £600 ceiling prescribed in regulations made by the Scottish Ministers. In the ledger, the invoices are charged to a taxi account code, together with an area specific cost centre. NHS Highland has the total cost of taxis each year (by locality) but we cannot provide the level of detail requested. In the financial year 17/18 a total of £24,000 was coded to the North area (Caithness & Sutherland), of which £12,700 was coded to Laboratories specifically, i.e. for the transportation of samples. In the financial year 16/17 a total of £29,000 was coded to the North area (Caithness & Sutherland), of which £16,000 was coded to Laboratories specifically. Please note that the coding provides no distinction between who and why taxi was used, and from where and to the journey is made. For example, the journey could be from Caithness General Hospital to patients home, Lawson Memorial Hospital to Thurso, Caithness General Hospital to Town & County, etc, these costs do not indicate just journeys from Caithness General Hospital to Raigmore Hospital. Chair: David Alston Chief Executive: Elaine Mead NHS Highland, Assynt House, Beechwood Park, INVERNESS IV2 3BW Additionally, there may be journeys between Raigmore and the North which is coded to, for example, a Raigmore specific cost centre. In order to answer the question we would have to examine and analyse every invoice/transaction individually to identify the detail requested. Also, please tell me how much it has cost in the years 2016-2017 and 2017 - date to transfer maternity patients from Caithness to Raigmore hospital by ambulance and also by helicopter. NHS Highland is unable to provide information relating to the use of ambulances and helicopters as we do not hold this information. We suggest you submit this question to the Scottish Ambulance Service via http://www.scottishambulance.com/TheService/freedominformation.aspx . Please also tell me how many patients have had to be transferred from Caithness to Raigmore hospital in Inverness in the years 2016-2017 and 2017- date by taxi, ambulance or helicopter, and how much the use of snow ploughs to travel in front of the road based transport has cost for these years. NHS Highland is unable to provide information relating to ambulances, helicopters and the use of snow ploughs with regards to patients transfer as we do not hold this information. We suggest you submit this question to the Scottish Ambulance Service via http://www.scottishambulance.com/TheService/freedominformation.aspx . Please also tell me how much it has cost NHS Highland to pay for the patient transport service to transport patients to and from Caithness and Raigmore Hospital in Inverness in the years 2016-2017 and 2017 - date. NHS Highland is unable to answer this question as patient travel falls under the remit of the Scottish Ambulance Service.
